Chapter 287 Resentful of That Relationship
Sharon hugged him tight, whispering, "Demetrius, chill out. No one's taking you away again, I promise."
Demetrius pouted, "Mom, I can't stand that guy. He says he's my dad, but I don't want him to be!"
Sharon sighed, "Alright, don't stress about it. Get some sleep, and I'll take you to school tomorrow."
Next morning, Sharon took Demetrius to school. When they ran into his teacher, Melanie Cox, she looked puzzled and said, "Ms. Roach, didn't Demetrius transfer? Why's he here today?"
Sharon blinked, "Transfer? What are you talking about?"
Melanie shrugged, "I dunno. The principal, Mr. Long, told me Demetrius transferred and I shouldn't worry about him anymore."
Sharon's eyes narrowed as she pieced it together.
She handed Demetrius to Melanie and said, "Got it, Ms. Cox. Demetrius isn't transferring. Please take him to class, and I'll have a word with Mr. Long."
Melanie nodded. "Sure thing."
Sharon marched straight to the principal's office.
When she knocked and walked in, Byron Long, the principal, was on the phone.
Sharon waited for him to finish before saying, "Mr. Long, who arranged for Demetrius to transfer schools?"
Byron didn't recognize Sharon at first, but his face changed when he heard Demetrius's name.
Byron said, "Please, take a seat."
He forced a smile, trying to be nice, "The transfer was handled by Mr. Smith's secretary. You're Mr. Smith's wife, right?"
Sharon's face went cold, "I'm Sharon Roach, Demetrius' mom. I have nothing to do with Mr. Smith, and he has nothing to do with Demetrius. If anyone claims to be his dad, ignore them."
Byron was taken aback and frowned, "Ms. Roach, Mr. Smith's secretary brought a paternity test. Are you and Mr. Smith having issues?"
Sharon didn't know Seb had dropped two million bucks on the school, so Byron naturally sided with Seb.
Byron couldn't believe someone would invest two million just to transfer a kid who wasn't theirs.
Sharon said, "Mr. Long, I picked this school for its security. If my kid can be transferred without my say-so, I might expose your school."
Byron's face went pale. Many parents at the school were big shots, and if word got out, it would be a disaster.
Once the school's rep was trashed, two million wouldn't fix it.
Thinking fast, Byron apologized, "Ms. Roach, please don't be mad. We messed up. I promise it won't happen again!"
Sharon just wanted Byron's promise, not to stir up trouble.
If she did, Demetrius would have to transfer.
He was already settled with his classmates, and moving would mess him up both physically and mentally.
She nodded, got up, and said, "As a mom, I sent Demetrius here for a safe place to learn. Let's make sure this doesn't happen again."
Leaving the principal's office, Sharon found Melanie and told her Demetrius would stay at the school before heading out.
As soon as she got to the lab, Donna rushed over and whispered, "Sharon, Julia agreed to meet you. Here's the time and restaurant address for tonight. She's super busy, so don't be late. She's got a flight at ten."
Sharon's eyes lit up with surprise, and she grabbed Donna's hand excitedly, "Donna, thank you. Dinner's on me this Saturday."
"No need for that. The main thing is Demetrius. But don't get your hopes too high. My sister's probably not gonna take the case."
"Alright, I'll give it a shot anyway."
For Demetrius, Sharon wouldn't give up, no matter how slim the chances.
"Good luck."
The day flew by, and Sharon rushed to the restaurant right after work.
She got there a few minutes early, and Julia showed up right on time.
As soon as they sat down, before Sharon could say anything, Julia said, "Ms. Roach, Donna filled me in on your situation. I can't take this case, I'm sorry."
Sharon was taken aback by Julia's bluntness, and her eyes dimmed, "Ms. Howard, if you weren't going to take the case, why agree to meet me?"
Julia replied, "Donna insisted. Even though I can't take the case, I can recommend a lawyer who's just as good."
Sharon was quiet for a moment, then looked at Julia seriously, "But I only trust you. If anyone can beat Nathan, it's you."
Julia's eyes flickered, showing a hint of emotion.
But then she shook her head firmly, "I'm sorry, I really can't take this case."
With that, Julia glanced at her watch, stood up, and said, "I have a flight to catch. Here's my card. If you need a lawyer recommendation, call me."
Julia got up and left. After a few steps, Sharon's voice called out from behind.
"Ms. Howard, is it because you're still hung up on Nathan that you haven't taken any cases against him?"
Julia paused for a moment but said nothing and quickly left.
Sharon didn't chase after her; she knew it would be pointless.
Since Julia wouldn't take the case, she had to find another lawyer.
When she got home, Demetrius was on the couch watching TV, and the nanny was cooking in the kitchen.
Everything seemed normal, but Sharon wasn't sure how long this peaceful life would last.
Seeing her, Demetrius quickly got up, ran to her, hugged her leg, and asked softly, "Mom, where did you go?"
Sharon forced a smile and patted Demetrius's head, "I worked late at the office."
Demetrius frowned, "Mom, if you're not happy, you don't have to smile."
Sharon's smile froze and then slowly faded.
Even Demetrius could tell she was upset; she must look awful right now.
She knelt down to look Demetrius in the eye, softly explaining, "Demetrius, I'm fine. Just a bit tired from work."
Demetrius shook his head, "Mom, you're lying. It's because of that bad man. Even when you were tired from work before, you were never this sad."
