Chapter 97 You Are My Savior
Alex shot her a cold look. "Why'd you have someone tail Ava?"
Sharon paused mid-sip of her oatmeal porridge and replied coolly, "If I don't keep tabs on her, how else would I know when you meet up and start lying to me again?"
Alex frowned but then relaxed.
"Sharon, you still care about me, don't you?"
Otherwise, she wouldn't have someone spy on Ava to see when he met her.
Sharon glanced up at Alex, noticing the joy in his eyes. He was so confident, confident enough to believe she still liked him.
But it was good that Alex misunderstood; it saved her a lot of trouble.
"I just don't want to be constantly cheated on, nor do I want to live in your lies."
Sharon's indifferent expression made Alex even more certain. The more he thought about it, the more he felt her recent behavior was to get his attention and win him back from Ava.
After all, Alex knew Sharon's character well. If she really didn't love him anymore, she wouldn't come back to him.
She deliberately got close to Seb to make him jealous.
"Sharon, I promise you, I have no feelings for Ava. The one I love is you. So you don't need to monitor her anymore. As soon as she has the baby, I'll send her away immediately."
How disgusting.
Alex could even say something like that.
Sharon's eyes flashed with mockery as she looked at Alex. "If you send Ava away, what about her child?"
Alex hesitated for a moment and then looked at Sharon seriously. "We've been married for so many years and haven't had a child. If you're willing, we can raise that child as our own."
Hearing his implicit suggestion that she couldn't have a baby, Sharon sneered.
"I have no interest in raising someone else's child. Besides, do you think I can accept a child born from my husband's affair?"
Did Alex think that her moving back meant she could tolerate everything about him?
Alex's face turned grim at Sharon's words, and he said in a deep voice, "If you don't want to raise the child, I won't force you. I won't let that child appear in front of you."
Sharon lowered her eyes and said nothing. She couldn't break up with Alex just yet.
As for Ava and her unborn child, Sharon didn't care about Alex anymore, let alone someone as irrelevant as Ava.
"Do whatever you want. I told you, once you handle this matter, we can resolve our issues."
Looking into Sharon's stubborn eyes, Alex sighed.
If only Sharon's personality was as gentle and less stubborn as Ava's.
In his social circle, people of his status all had wives at home and a bunch of mistresses outside.
Why could others tolerate it, but Sharon couldn't? He had treated her well enough over the years.
Just because he cheated, Sharon made the family relationship so tense.
Even though he knew Sharon cared about him, Alex still felt exhausted. His busy work already stressed him out, and coming home to Sharon's attitude made it worse.
"Take care of yourself. I have to work, so I'll leave now. I've found a caregiver for you. If you need anything, just tell the caregiver."
Leaving the hospital, Alex drove straight to Ava's house.
When Ava opened the door and saw Alex, her eyes instantly filled with joy. "Alex, why are you here? Have you had dinner? I was just about to eat. Do you want to join me?"
Ava's eyes lit up when she saw Alex, instantly erasing the frustration he felt from Sharon. A smile crept onto his face.
"I haven't eaten yet."
"Then go wash your hands first."
The entire evening, Ava chatted about her day, and Alex's heart gradually leaned towards her. Sharon had always been so cold to him that even his passionate feelings would eventually cool down.
Meanwhile, after finishing dinner, Sharon was about to go for a walk when she got a call from the private investigator.
"Ms. Wright, your husband's men found me. They warned me to stay away from Ava or they'd call the cops."
Since Brian started investigating the Robert Pharmaceuticals incident, he had sent an assistant to monitor Ava. The assistant was inexperienced and got discovered quickly.
"It's okay. You don't need to monitor her anymore. I'll transfer your payment shortly."
Sharon had monitored Ava to gather evidence of Alex's affair, but now it didn't matter much. Once she got the evidence to put David away, Alex would probably hate her and wouldn't oppose the divorce.
After hanging up, Sharon transferred the money and thought about the conversation she overheard in David's study about borrowing money from Seb. She decided to contact Brian to check on the investigation.
Brian didn't reply immediately, but Sharon wasn't in a hurry. Brian was often busy and couldn't always respond promptly.
Suddenly, the door to the hospital room opened, and Seb walked in carrying a food container.
Seb had a cold expression, wearing only a white shirt with two buttons undone, revealing his tanned skin and delicate collarbone. He wore straight trousers, his legs long and straight, looking like a character from a comic.
Sharon was stunned until Seb stood in front of her, and she quickly averted her eyes in embarrassment.
"Uncle Seb, you didn't have to come. The doctor said I can be discharged in a few days."
As Seb approached, Sharon was enveloped in his scent, and she couldn't help but breathe more lightly.
Seb sat down beside her, opened the food container, and handed her a bowl of soup, saying indifferently, "You saved my life. If I didn't come, wouldn't that be ungrateful?"
"Uncle Seb, I told you, taking that knife for you was to repay you for saving me at your bar."
Seb looked at Sharon, his expression calm and unruffled.
"Drink the soup first."
Seb knew very well that if Sharon had no feelings for him and only wanted to repay him, she wouldn't have unhesitatingly shielded him. After all, people have a natural instinct to avoid danger.
Sharon frowned, feeling that he wasn't listening to her.
"I've already had some."
Seb didn't push her and put the soup back.
"Then drink it later."
The room fell silent, and seeing that Seb had no intention of leaving, Sharon finally couldn't help but speak, "Uncle Seb, I want to rest. It's inconvenient with you here."
Seb nodded, stood up, and said, "Then I'll sit on the couch. You can sleep, and call me if you need anything."
Sharon was at a loss for words. That wasn't what she meant.
Sharon bit her lip and said in a deep voice, "Uncle Seb, I feel uncomfortable with you in the room. I hope you can leave."
Seb stopped and looked at her, raising an eyebrow. "Can I interpret that as you care about me, which is why you feel uncomfortable with me here?"
