Chapter 154 Who Knows What They Might Do
"You!"
Clara was so mad she almost fainted, shaking and pointing at Alex but saying nothing.
In the end, she stormed off.
The next day at noon, Sharon arrived at the restaurant where Mark was already waiting.
She quickly sat across from him, looking apologetic. "Sorry, got held up at the lab."
"No worries, Ms. Wright. Check out this document."
Sharon took the document, read it, and frowned.
Since Alex cheated, he had been transferring assets. Most of his stuff was now under Ava's name.
"Ms. Wright, the problem is Alex and Ava are married, and he probably got legal advice. It’ll be tough to get those assets back."
"How much can I get?"
"Five million dollars."
Sharon wasn’t surprised; she had a hunch while reading.
"Alright, I get it. Go negotiate with his lawyer."
Mark was surprised. "Ms. Wright, aren’t you going to fight for more?"
Sharon shook her head. "I don’t want to waste more time on him. Court would drag on for over a year."
Plus, she was with Seb now, and dealing with Alex might affect Seb.
Mark nodded. "Got it."
"Thanks."
"No problem, it’s my job."
Back at the office, Sharon was about to take a lunch break when her phone rang.
Seeing it was Robert’s doctor, she quickly answered.
"Doctor, what’s up?"
"Ms. Wright, I’ve arranged for a hospital abroad. Your father can be transferred anytime."
Sharon’s grip tightened on her phone. "Okay, thanks!"
After hanging up, Sharon called Karen to share the news.
Karen sounded excited. "I’ll pack right away. We can leave tomorrow morning."
"What about my dad?"
"Don’t worry, I’ll convince him."
Sharon didn’t push further. She was about to hang up when Karen added, "Sharon, don’t blame me. I said those things for your own good."
Sharon didn’t take Karen’s words to heart. She knew if Karen was genuinely concerned or just avoiding involvement.
But Sharon didn’t plan to expose Karen. It would only make Robert uncomfortable, and it wasn’t worth it.
"Aunt Karen, I don’t blame you. I was impulsive before. After going abroad, I’ll leave my dad in your care. I can’t rush over if anything happens. Thanks a lot."
"Sharon, I’m glad you understand."
After hanging up, Karen called Leo about going to Stellaria the next day.
"Leo, if all goes well, Robert and I will go to Stellaria tomorrow. Can you pick us up?"
There was a brief silence before Leo’s deep voice came through. "Mom, I’m coming back to Metropolis next week."
"Coming back for an exchange?"
Karen smiled softly. "Then Robert and I will wait for you, and we can go to Stellaria together. A few days won’t matter."
"No, I’m coming back to work. I might not return to Stellaria."
Karen’s smile froze. "What? You’re doing great in Stellaria. Why are you suddenly coming back? And why didn’t you mention this before?"
Karen was thrilled about reuniting with Leo, but his news hit her hard.
"I planned to come back last year but couldn't find a job. I just got an offer from a company in Metropolis and will sign the contract tomorrow."
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
If she had known, she wouldn't have agreed to take Robert abroad for treatment. She wasn't familiar with abroad, and it wouldn't be as convenient as the Metropolis.
"I wanted to settle down first."
Karen frowned, still a bit angry. She had promised Sharon and wondered if she could back out. Plus, staying in Metropolis meant risking retaliation from the Smith family.
After thinking it over, Karen decided it was best to go abroad.
"Leo, I need to tell you something."
Karen explained how Sharon had recently offended the Smith family and ended with, "Since you haven't signed the contract yet, I suggest you don't come back. Sharon doesn't listen to anyone, and who knows what she'll do next."
Karen's words only strengthened Leo's resolve to return.
"Mom, I think Sharon is doing the right thing, and I'm not afraid of the Smith family."
"Are you crazy? You're my only son. If anything happens to you, how am I supposed to go on? You can't come back. If you do, I'll break your legs and send you back!"
With that, Karen hung up.
On the other side, a young man with handsome features and gold-rimmed glasses put down his phone. He took off his glasses and rubbed his temples, looking indifferent. Regardless of Karen's opinion, he was determined to return.
In the evening, Sharon had just gotten into the car when her phone rang. Seeing the name on the screen, she was surprised. Since Leo went abroad, he rarely contacted her unless necessary. Today, he suddenly called. 'Could he know about Robert's treatment abroad?' Sharon wondered.
Seeing Sharon not answering, Seb turned to look. Noticing Leo's name on the screen, his eyes darkened, and his voice was lower than usual, "Why aren't you answering?"
Sharon snapped out of it and quickly answered, not noticing Seb's darkened gaze.
"Hello, Leo, what's up?"
Sharon's tone was distant, treating Leo like a distant relative. They had gotten along for a while, but in college, Leo suddenly became cold, and they grew apart, eventually becoming like strangers under the same roof.
"I heard from Mom that Robert is going abroad for treatment?"
"Yes, I might need you to help take care of them sometimes."
Leo's voice was cold. "I'm coming back next week to work in Metropolis."
Sharon was stunned for a moment, then responded lightly, "Then I'll find a translator for them. They might run into a lot of issues in a new place."
"I'll handle it."
Sharon and Leo chatted a bit more, and just as they were about to hang up, Seb suddenly said in a low voice, "What do you want to eat? I saw a nice restaurant earlier. How about steak tonight?"
His voice wasn't loud, but it was just enough for Leo to hear on the other end.
