Chapter 83 Wanting Everything, Isn't That a Bit Too Greedy?
Rebecca smiled as she spoke to him. Although Seb only responded occasionally, the atmosphere was still quite pleasant.
Ever since Rebecca and Seb sat down next to them, Sharon had been quietly eating her meal, just wanting to finish quickly and leave.
Suddenly, a somewhat shy voice came from beside her. "Ms. Wright."
She turned her head and saw a well-built man holding a red rose bouquet, standing a few steps away and looking at her nervously.
She frowned, getting a bad feeling.
Sure enough, the next second, the man handed the roses to her. "Hello, my name is Tom Doe. From the moment I saw you, I fell in love at first sight. Could you give me a chance to pursue you?"
Back in college, Sharon often received confessions, but this was the first time she got one after marrying Alex.
It was lunchtime, and the cafeteria was crowded. Everyone's eyes were on them.
She was silent for a few seconds, then said calmly, "Sorry, I'm already married."
Hearing this, Tom's face instantly soured, his eyes filled with doubt.
After all, given Sharon's age and her stunning looks, she didn't seem like someone who was married.
Moreover, her public rejection humiliated him, thinking that everyone around was secretly laughing at him.
He said, "Ms. Wright, are you saying you're married just to brush me off because you don't like me?"
Seeing his questioning demeanor, Sharon felt uncomfortable and her voice turned cold. "Mr. Doe, if you don't want to believe me, that's your choice. I need to eat now, so please leave."
Her words made him even more convinced that she was lying to him.
Thinking about this, Tom's face turned extremely grim.
He had prepared meticulously for this moment, and the bouquet alone cost him two hundred dollars. Sharon's public rejection was a blatant humiliation.
Did she think she could disregard his feelings just because she was beautiful?
The more he thought about it, the more upset he was.
However, considering the people around, he suppressed his thoughts and forced a smile. "At least take the flowers; it's a token of my affection."
"Thank you, but I can't accept them." With that, Sharon turned back to her meal, clearly not intending to continue the conversation.
Tom's smile froze, his grip on the flowers tightening as his eyes flashed coldly.
He took a deep breath and walked away quickly without further entanglement.
Rebecca laughed. "Ms. Wright, you seem to get along well with people. You've only been at Silvercrest Group for a few days, and someone already professed their feelings for you. I'm so envious."
Sharon glanced at her indifferently. "No need to be envious, Ms. Walker. As long as you're pretty enough, you can do that, too."
Rebecca's face changed, nearly crushing the fork in her hand.
Sharon was clearly mocking her for not being pretty enough!
Rebecca forced a smile and looked at the expressionless Seb. "Not everyone can be like Ms. Wright, getting many things effortlessly just because of their looks. I think personal ability is more important. What do you think, Mr. Smith?"
Seb looked at her, his expression indifferent as he responded, "Sure."
Sharon pursed her lips, feeling a mix of emotions.
Pleased with Seb's affirmation, Rebecca was about to continue mocking Sharon when Ashley suddenly spoke up, "Ms. Walker, you're wrong. Sharon is both beautiful and capable; something others can't just envy."
Rebecca's face stiffened, eyes flashing with anger. "I didn't say Ms. Wright isn't capable, just that her looks bring her many benefits."
Listening to Rebecca's sarcastic tone, Sharon decided not to tolerate it anymore.
She turned to Rebecca and said slowly, "Ms. Walker, you say my looks bring me many benefits. However, your family background gives you that as well. Otherwise, you wouldn't be sitting here having lunch with Mr. Smith, would you?"
The world was inherently unfair. Wanting everything was just being greedy.
Rebecca was left speechless, her face turning extremely ugly.
Sharon stood up with her plate. "I'm done eating. Enjoy your meal."
Ashley also stood up with her tray. "Sharon, I'm sorry. I spoke too quickly earlier. If I hadn't agreed to let them sit next to us, none of this would have happened."
Sharon didn't mind. "Don't worry about it."
Rebecca was targeting her from the start. Even if Ashley hadn't agreed, Rebecca would've found a way to sit nearby and annoy her.
Previously, Sharon thought Rebecca and Seb were a good match, but now she felt Rebecca wasn't worthy of Seb.
However, if he ultimately decided to marry her, it wasn't her place to interfere.
After they left, Rebecca looked at Seb. "Mr. Smith, does Ms. Wright have something against me?"
She bit her lip, looking aggrieved.
If it were any other man, seeing her like this might evoke some pity.
However, Seb remained expressionless, his gaze toward Rebecca indifferent. "Didn't you provoke her first?"
Sensing him defend Sharon, Rebecca felt angry and her voice turned cold. "I was just stating the truth. Didn't you agree, Mr. Smith?"
Rebecca thought that since she knew Seb liked Sharon, he'd be more courteous to her to keep her from revealing it. However, his attitude toward her was worse than before.
"I only agreed that personal ability is important. But Ms. Walker, you don't seem to understand men very well." Rebecca's face paled, realizing Seb meant he also liked beautiful women, hence his lack of interest in her.
"Mr. Smith, I hope you don't forget your and Sharon's status!" when she said that, she felt the temperature around her drop several degrees.
Seb's eyes seemed to be coated with ice, the coldness almost freezing.
"Ms. Walker, I advise you to think before you speak, or you won't be able to bear the consequences." With that, he stood up and left.
It wasn't until he disappeared at the cafeteria door that she felt the suffocating pressure lift, breathing out.
However, she wouldn't give up.
After so many years, she had finally fallen for someone like Seb. She wouldn't give up so easily.
After all, Seb and Sharon were impossible. She still had a chance!
Thinking of Tom's angry expression when he left, she smiled and came up with a plan.
Back at the office, Seb said coldly, "Look into a company employee named Tom Doe."
