Chapter 565 She Hates Being Fawned Over
After a long pause, Alton finally spoke to comfort him, "Hey, Demetrius, don't be sad. Your mom's probably got her own stuff to handle. She'll come back to you someday, for sure."
Demetrius wiped his tears, "How long is 'someday'?"
"I don't know, buddy. You'd have to ask your mom."
"Okay."
After comforting Demetrius for a while longer, Alton hung up the phone.
He put down his phone, got up, and walked to the window. Looking out at the night, he sighed.
Sharon was heading to Stellaria this time, and who knows when she'd be back. Demetrius might not see her for many years.
Downstairs in the living room, Sharon was pacing back and forth, glancing anxiously upstairs every now and then. Her eyes were full of worry.
Seeing her so anxious, Seb walked over and gently guided her to sit on the couch.
"Sharon, worrying won't help right now. Demetrius needs time to process this. If he doesn't come out in a few hours, I'll go talk to him, okay?"
Sharon nodded, "I'm just afraid something might happen if he stays in his room alone."
"He'll be fine. He's stronger than you think."
With Seb's reassurance, Sharon's anxiety gradually eased.
Two hours later, Sharon went upstairs to check and found the food she had brought still untouched at the door. She bit her lip and knocked on the door, "Demetrius, are you asleep?"
After a while, Demetrius's voice came from inside, "I don't want to eat. Leave me alone."
His tone was full of unhappiness, clearly still upset about Sharon leaving.
Sharon bit her lip and looked at Seb, "What should we do? Demetrius still won't see me."
"It's okay. You go back to the bedroom. I'll talk to him."
Seb looked at her seriously, "I know you're worried about Demetrius, but he clearly can't accept you leaving right now. If you stay here, he won't open the door. Trust me, you go, and I'll find a way to talk to him."
After a moment of hesitation, Sharon finally agreed, "Okay, I'll wait for you in the bedroom."
"Alright."
After Sharon left, Seb gently knocked on the door, "Demetrius, can you open the door? Dad wants to talk to you."
"No! You and Mom are both bad! I don't want to talk to you anymore!"
Seb lowered his gaze and spoke in a voice Demetrius could hear, "Demetrius, whether you agree or not, your mom is leaving the day after tomorrow. If you spend the next day being angry, you'll regret it later."
There was no response from the room, but Seb knew Demetrius had heard and understood.
"Can you open the door so we can talk?" Seb waited patiently at the door.
After a while, he heard footsteps, and soon the door opened from the inside.
Looking down, he saw Demetrius's tear-streaked face, his eyes red and swollen from crying. He looked pitiful.
Seeing Seb, he cried, "Dad, I don't want Mom to leave."
Seb picked him up and walked downstairs, "I don't want her to leave either, but she said she has to go for work. If you miss her, we can video call her, and I'll take you to see her when we can."
"It's not the same."
Seb nodded, "I know, but there's no other way."
"Dad, can't Mom take me with her?"
Seb was silent for a moment, thinking about how to respond. "If you and Mom leave, what about me? I was alone before, and you want me to be alone in this big house again?"
"Dana and the others will be here with you."
"Dana's great, but she's not you and Mom. You two are the most important people to me."
Demetrius thought for a moment, "Then you can come with us."
"No, I have to manage the company. If I leave with you, thousands of people will lose their jobs. Do you want that?"
"I don't want that, but I don't want Mom to leave either."
"I don't want her to leave either, but she has to for work. Stay here with me and wait for her to come back, okay?"
Demetrius wanted to refuse, but seeing Seb's sad expression, he couldn't say no.
Though he was smarter than his peers, he couldn't see through Seb's emotional manipulation.
Seeing him silent, Seb said, "Let's not think about that now. You should eat something first."
Dana had kept the food warm. Seeing Seb carrying Demetrius over, she quickly set the table and served him a bowl of chicken soup.
Demetrius hadn't felt hungry, but the aroma of his favorite dishes made his stomach growl.
"Let's eat first." Seb placed Demetrius on a chair and sat beside him.
Demetrius touched his hungry stomach, hesitated, then picked up his bowl and started eating.
Half an hour later, he finished his meal.
Dana cleared the table, and Seb carried Demetrius to the living room couch. They sat together.
"Demetrius, should I call Mom down?"
Demetrius turned his head away, not answering, still upset.
Seb gently patted his head, "Mom is leaving the day after tomorrow. Don't be mad at her these two days, okay?"
After a long silence, Demetrius nodded, "Okay."
"I'll go get Mom."
Seb quickly went upstairs and opened the bedroom door.
Sharon, who had been sitting in a chair, stood up immediately, "How is it? Did Demetrius come out?"
"Yes, he ate and is in the living room. Go down."
"Okay." Sharon hurried downstairs and reached the living room in less than a minute.
She sat next to Demetrius and softly said, "Demetrius."
Seeing her, Demetrius threw himself into her arms.
"Mom, I really don't want you to leave. Can't you stay with Dad and me?"
Sharon's heart softened, and her eyes welled up.
She gently patted Demetrius's head, "I don't want to leave you and Dad either, but I have to. Demetrius, listen to Dad, okay? I'll call and video chat with you whenever I can."
For the next day and a half, Demetrius clung to Sharon, even insisting on sleeping together. Seb had to wait until Demetrius fell asleep to get any alone time with Sharon.
The day Sharon was to leave for the airport arrived quickly. She packed her bags and called Dana to her room before leaving.
"Dana, I might be gone for a long time. While I'm away, I hope you can look after Demetrius and Seb. Seb has a sensitive stomach, so make sure he eats on time. And if you have the time, please spend more time with Demetrius. Thank you."
Dana was stunned, her eyes widening in disbelief. "Mrs. Smith, where are you going?"
"I'm going abroad for a long time, so I'll be relying on you to take care of Seb and Demetrius."
It took Dana a moment to process this, but she quickly responded, "Mrs. Smith, don't worry. I'll take good care of them."
"Thank you, Dana!"
After talking with Dana, Sharon turned and headed for the door, with Seb and Demetrius accompanying her to the airport.
The ride was silent, with everyone lost in their thoughts.
Over an hour later, the car pulled up at the airport entrance.
Sharon took a deep breath and turned to Seb. "Seb, while I'm gone, take good care of Demetrius and yourself. Your health is the most important."
Seb nodded, "I know. Once you get to Stellaria, the people I send to protect you will find a way to contact you. If you're ever in danger, reach out to them, and they'll get you out safely."
"Okay."
Sharon looked down at Demetrius and hugged him tightly.
"Demetrius, listen to Dad and eat well, okay?"
"Okay."
Seb reached out and hugged Sharon, and the three of them held each other tightly until the driver reminded them that it was almost time to board. They reluctantly let go.
Sharon wiped her tear-streaked eyes, opened the car door, and got out.
Seb and Demetrius got out from the other side, and Seb retrieved her luggage from the trunk.
"Call me when you can, just to let me know you're safe."
"Okay, I'm leaving now. Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
Sharon gave Demetrius one last look before walking into the airport with her suitcase.
Demetrius tried to run after her, but Seb grabbed him and put him back in the car, locking the doors.
"Mom! Mom!"
Demetrius cried and pounded on the window, but Sharon couldn't hear him. He could only watch as her figure disappeared from view.
Seb looked away and told the driver, "Take us back to the house."
Demetrius was sobbing uncontrollably, his eyes red and swollen as he glared at Seb. "I hate you! I hate you! Give me back my mom!"
Seb remained silent, his face expressionless but his body tense.
"I want Mom."
Seb looked at Demetrius, and after a while, seeing that he wasn't calming down, he said softly, "Demetrius, stop crying. We'll see Mom again soon."
"You're a liar! I don't believe you!"
Demetrius continued to cry, his face streaked with tears.
Seb handed him some tissues and turned to look out the window, a determined look in his eyes.
He was certain that day wouldn't be too far off.
Meanwhile, Sharon walked into the airport and soon spotted Carolyn and Alton in the crowd.
Carolyn was wearing a long black coat and large sunglasses, her chin raised and her expression cold, exuding an unapproachable aura.
Seeing Sharon, Alton waved at her.
Sharon approached them, her expression indifferent. "It's about time. Let's go through security."
Carolyn frowned, displeased. "Why do you look so reluctant? Once you get to Stellaria, you'll realize how foolish your resistance is."
Sharon looked at her, "We'll see about that once we're in Stellaria."
With that, Sharon turned and headed towards the security checkpoint, not bothering to look at them again.
Carolyn's face darkened, but she held back her anger in the busy airport, deciding to teach Sharon a lesson once they reached Stellaria.
After passing through security, Sharon went straight to the lounge. Carolyn and Alton joined her shortly after.
Alton occasionally tried to make conversation with Sharon, while Carolyn rested on the couch.
Soon, a staff member came to inform them it was time to board.
They boarded the plane, and after a long flight, they landed in Stellaria.
As soon as they got off the plane, someone took Sharon's luggage.
Sharon followed Alton and Carolyn to a car, and after over an hour's drive, they arrived at a large estate on the outskirts of the city.
The estate's iron gates were adorned with intricate designs and stood a towering 15 feet high, exuding grandeur.
The gates opened, and the car drove in.
The estate gradually came into view, with its Gothic spires reaching towards the sky, emanating an air of mystery and solemnity. The pointed arches looked like the gaping maw of a monster, ready to devour anyone who approached.
Seeing Sharon staring out the window, Carolyn curled her lips into a cold smile. "What do you think? Isn't this place much better than back home?"
Sharon turned to her, seeing the pride on her face, and replied calmly, "I don't think it's better. Maybe you do."
Carolyn's face stiffened, her brows furrowing as she turned away, ignoring Sharon.
In the front seat, Alton couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at Carolyn's reaction.
It had been years since anyone had spoken to Carolyn like that. Even the most favored Daisy behaved obediently around her.
It seemed life in the estate was going to be interesting.
The car stopped at the entrance, and Carolyn got out without looking back.
Sharon got out and retrieved her suitcase from the trunk, dragging it inside.
The driver hurried over to help, but Sharon waved him off.
"Thank you, but I can manage."
The driver, a Stellarian who spoke both languages, understood her and looked to Alton for guidance.
Alton glanced at Sharon's suitcase, which didn't seem too heavy, and told the driver to park the car and take a break.
He quickly walked over to Sharon and said, "You'd better not confront your mom head-on about everything. If you anger her, it won't end well for you."
Sharon looked at him, "Would it help if I tried to please her?"
"Probably not. She hates it when people try to please her."
"Then why shouldn't I just do what makes me comfortable?"
Alton was silent.
He couldn't argue with that.
As they spoke, they entered the grand hall.
A blonde girl in a princess dress was sitting on a black leather sofa. As soon as Sharon walked in, the girl's eyes fixed on her face.
Seeing Sharon's striking resemblance to Carolyn, the girl felt a flash of jealousy.
