Chapter 152 No Intention of Relying on Him at All
Rebecca walked into Seb's office with a smile, feeling excited.
Seb was busy with some papers, and the sunlight made him look even more handsome.
"Mr. Smith, I've got the contract ready. When can we sign it?"
Seb put down the papers and looked at her coldly.
"Miss Walker, you've got it wrong. I'm here to tell you that Silvercrest Group found another partner. You don't need to come here anymore."
Rebecca's smile vanished, and she stared at Seb in shock.
"What did you say?"
After all those meetings, just when they were about to sign, Seb was backing out? Rebecca was furious but tried to stay calm. "Why?"
"Miss Walker, you've been harassing my girlfriend, which is unprofessional. So, we're putting our collaboration on hold."
'Sharon again!' Rebecca thought angrily.
Rebecca's face turned pale with anger. "Mr. Smith, are you really giving up this deal and going against the Walker family because of Sharon?"
"Miss Walker, you're overreacting. Your actions show you're not a suitable partner."
Rebecca laughed coldly. "Don't act so noble. You're just doing this for Sharon, right?"
Seb looked at her indifferently. "If that makes you feel better, think what you want."
"Fine, Seb, don't regret this!"
Rebecca stormed out, bumping into Paul, who was carrying coffee, and took the elevator down.
In her car, Rebecca was still fuming. She slammed the steering wheel, eyes flashing with resentment.
'I won't give up that easily!' she thought.
Later, before leaving work, Ashley handed her phone to Sharon, looking angry.
"Sharon, someone in the company chat said you hit Clara. Now everyone’s talking about it!"
Sharon saw the Silvercrest Group chat filled with messages criticizing her.
[OMG, Mr. Smith likes Sharon? Only she would hit an elder!]
[No wonder Alex wanted a divorce. Living with her must be a nightmare!]
[Stop talking. If she finds out, she might tell Mr. Smith, and we'll be in trouble.]
Sharon's eyes turned cold. 'Clara never fails to surprise me,' she thought.
She gave the phone back to Ashley, staying calm. "Ignore it."
Ashley looked worried. "Should we tell Mr. Smith and let him handle it?"
If Seb issued a statement, it could stop the gossip.
Sharon remembered what Paul had told her that morning and shook her head.
"No need, I can handle it."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, let's get back to work."
Seeing Sharon's calm demeanor, Ashley dropped the matter.
If Sharon couldn't handle it, she would go to Seb for help.
Sharon and Ashley had to work late because of some experimental data issues.
By the time they wrapped up, it was past eight.
Knowing Ashley lived far, Sharon offered her a ride home while they packed up.
Ashley's eyes lit up. "Really? Thanks, Sharon!"
"No problem. It's not safe for a girl to go home alone at night."
They chatted while putting the equipment away, then headed downstairs together.
Sharon texted Seb, and he didn't mind her taking Ashley home.
But Ashley seemed flustered when she saw Seb.
Once in the back seat and seeing Seb driving, Ashley was even more overwhelmed.
"Mr. Smith, thank you."
Seb just hummed and turned to Sharon. "You navigate."
"Okay."
Ashley lived in the opposite direction of Seb's villa, so they dropped her off first.
Seb was mostly silent, only occasionally talking to Sharon.
Ashley sat quietly, sneaking glances at Seb. Even his profile made her heart race. But she knew he was out of her league. Without Sharon, she wouldn't have had this chance to talk to him.
After dropping off Ashley, it was past ten when they got back to the villa.
As Sharon walked into the living room, ready to head to her room, Seb called out.
"Don't you have something to tell me?"
Sharon was puzzled. 'What am I supposed to tell him?'
After a moment, she guessed Seb might be upset about driving Ashley home.
"Thanks for tonight. I didn't expect to work late. Next time, I'll handle it myself."
Seb frowned. "That's not what I meant."
Besides that, she hadn't interacted with Seb today.
Seeing her confusion, Seb suppressed his anger. "Didn't anything happen at the company today?"
"Do you mean Rebecca dropping by?"
Seb's face darkened. "If I hadn't asked, were you not going to tell me?"
"It's not a big deal. She just said some nonsense. If I took it seriously, you'd think I'm petty."
Seb stared at her for a few seconds. "I wouldn't. And it started because of me. You could've told me and let me handle it." Seb wasn't upset about the incident but about Sharon not relying on him.
"If something's serious and I can't handle it, I'll tell you. Not telling you means I can manage. Even though we're together, I don't want to rely on you for everything."
Sharon had trusted Alex completely and got burned. She wouldn't make that mistake again.
Seb looked at her, his tone cold. "Were you like this with Alex?"
Sensing his anger, Sharon looked up. "You and Alex are different. Plus, I'm not the same Sharon anymore. Being with you won't be like being with him."
