Chapter 103 Are They Arguing?

When Sharon got home, she texted HR for a day off and crashed until almost noon.

When she finally checked her phone, she saw a bunch of missed calls and a text.

[Ms. Wright, your medical report is ready. We tried calling, but there was no answer. You can pick it up at the hospital or request an electronic version. Have a nice day!]

Sharon's heart skipped a beat. She called back and asked for the electronic report.

When she opened it, her heart sank.

The result hit her like a ton of bricks.

She was infertile.

Tears welled up in Sharon's eyes, not because of Alex, but because she had always wanted a baby. Now, that dream seemed impossible.

The phone slipped from her hand as she covered her eyes, tears streaming down her face.

She didn't know how long she cried, but eventually, she calmed down.

Sharon took a deep breath, got up, and washed her face. She decided to get rechecked at another hospital.

If it were confirmed, she would have to accept reality and figure out her next steps.

After freshening up, Sharon ate a little and then went to work.

As she parked her car and walked to the elevator, she heard footsteps and Paul's voice behind her.

"Mr. Smith, here's the schedule for this afternoon. Please take a look."

Sharon turned slightly and met Seb's eyes.

"Mr. Smith, Mr. Harris."

Seb's gaze fell on Sharon's red, tired eyes and quickly shifted away.

"How do you feel? If you haven't fully recovered, you can take a rest."

Noticing Seb's indifferent attitude, Sharon thought it might be because of what she had said at the hospital that day.

But right now, she was trapped in other things on her mind and had no energy to care about Seb's attitude.

She lowered her eyes and said softly, "The wound has mostly healed, and I have nothing to do at home."

Seb nodded and said nothing more.

Paul, standing nearby, was surprised by their distant attitudes toward each other.

Soon, the elevator arrived.

As Sharon walked in, she saw Seb still standing outside and asked, "Mr. Smith, aren't you coming in?"

Seb looked at her calmly. "I left a document in the car. You go up first."

"Okay."

After the elevator doors closed, Paul looked at Seb in confusion. "Mr. Smith, what document? I'll go get it."

Seb pressed the elevator button. "No need. It's not important. I'll get it next time."

Paul initially thought that one more trip was a hassle, but then he suddenly realized that Seb wasn't missing a document; he was clearly avoiding Sharon.

But he couldn't understand why Seb's attitude towards Sharon had changed so drastically.

It might have been because of the marriage topic earlier.

If that was the reason, then Paul could understand.

After all, Paul had been with Seb for a few years and knew him well. Seb was indifferent to marriage. He had rejected all the women that Sandra had introduced to him.

Seb might like a woman and be with her, but he would never want to get married.

It seemed he no longer had to worry about rumors of Seb liking Sharon affecting Silvercrest Group's stock price.

When Sharon walked into the lab, Ashley was mixing a solution. When she saw Sharon, her eyes lit up.

"Sharon, you're back?"

Sharon nodded and approached her. "Carry on with your work. I'll change into my lab coat and help you."

"Great!"

After changing into her lab coat, Sharon walked over to Ashley, glanced at the lab notebook, and saw that Ashley was following the steps she had previously explained. Sharon put down the notebook and started the experiment with her.

Ashley hadn't seen Sharon for a while and had been working alone in the lab, so she was eager to talk when she saw Sharon.

"Sharon, the news about you saving Mr. Smith has spread around the company, and now everyone is saying you're dating him."

Sharon's hands paused for a moment before she calmly said, "There's no need to pay attention to such rumors."

Ashley glanced at her and hesitated, unsure if she should say what was on her mind.

When that person rushed over, Ashley hadn't reacted yet, but Sharon had already moved to Seb's side to shield him from the knife.

Ashley had a feeling Sharon was different when it came to Seb, but at work, they only exchanged greetings and never showed any signs of being close.

So, she couldn't figure out what was going on between them.

Lost in thought, she was jolted back by Sharon's stern voice. "There's a hole at the bottom of the filter paper. Didn't you notice?"

Ashley quickly looked down. Sure enough, there was a hole, causing the solution to leak and contaminate the previously filtered solution. She had to start over.

"Sharon, I'm sorry. I didn't notice."

"It's okay. Just be more attentive. If you can't focus, take a break."

This experiment was relatively safe, but future ones could be dangerous. If Ashley got distracted then, it could lead to serious consequences.

Ashley nodded quickly. "I promise it won't happen again."

Sharon said nothing more and continued with her work.

Time flew by, and soon the day was over.

As Sharon was packing up to leave, she got a call from Sophie inviting her to dinner.

They met at the restaurant entrance, and as soon as Sophie saw Sharon, she frowned. "Has something happened? You look so worn out."

Sharon didn't want Sophie to worry, so she shook her head. "No, just a bit tired from work."

"Then tonight, let's eat something good to recharge."

Seeing Sophie's excitement, Sharon smiled. "Okay."

After they sat down and ordered, Sophie looked at her. "By the way, have Daniel and Emily been giving you any trouble lately?"

Sharon replied, "No, but BioTech Innovations Group and the Young group have joined forces with several companies to terminate contracts with the Smith group and Silvercrest Group, which must have caused significant losses."

Sophie commented, "BioTech Innovations Group and the Young group probably suffered more. Silvercrest Group and the Smith group have started to retaliate, and many partners are also terminating their contracts with them. Daniel and Emily must be having a tough time now."

Sophie's family owned a medium-sized company, so she was well-informed about business news.

Sharon's expression remained calm. "Even if they're having a hard time, it's their own fault."

Sophie sneered, "They deserve it. But I bet Emily will come to you soon. Don't go soft on her."

If she had been at the banquet that day, she would have torn Emily apart.

"Don't worry. I won't."

Emily had framed Sharon at the banquet, and then BioTech Innovations Group and the Young group had tried to force the Smith family to make her apologize by terminating contracts. If Sharon still forgave Emily, she would truly be foolish.

After dinner, Sophie went to shopping with Sharon.

Seeing that Sophie was mostly picking clothes for her and not for herself, Sharon couldn't help but laugh. "Sophie, are you planning to buy me clothes?"

Sophie picked up a red strapless dress from the rack and nodded. "Yes. Don't you remember your birthday is coming up?"

Sharon was momentarily stunned and then recalled it.

Her birthday was indeed approaching, but she had been so busy lately that she had forgotten about it.

Since getting together with Alex, they had always spent her birthday alone together.

But this year, Alex probably wouldn't remember.

"No. I've been too busy."

Sophie frowned. "Did Alex forget, too?"

"I don't know, but for our current relationship, it's not suitable to celebrate together."

Sophie sighed but didn't say anything more.

She knew Sharon well. The moment Sharon found out Alex had cheated, she could no longer be with him.

As for why Sharon moved back, Sophie didn't ask. After all, even with close friends, some things shouldn't be pried into.

"Alright, I'll celebrate with you. Today, I'll buy you a dress, and on your birthday, I'll give you a surprise!"
