Chapter 248 Burned Down to Ashes
While talking, Sharon fumbled for the car's ignition key and jammed it in.
The car roared to life, and Enrique Espinoza's face twisted. He lunged for the back door, trying to yank it open.
Sharon slammed the gas pedal, and the car shot forward, dragging Enrique along.
But Enrique wasn't letting go. He clung to the door, sneering, "You're toast!"
Sharon tried to floor it to shake him off, but Enrique held on tight and started climbing in.
She gripped the wheel, her face going pale.
Finally, she made up her mind and floored it, the car rocketing forward.
Enrique's face finally showed fear. "Stop, or I'll kill you!"
At this speed, he couldn't climb in; one slip meant certain death.
Just as Sharon was about to shake him off, a big truck appeared out of nowhere, barreling straight at her.
Sharon's face went pale, and she yanked the wheel to the right.
The car smashed into a tree, thick black smoke pouring out.
Sharon's head slammed into the seatback, and the pain knocked her out cold.
Enrique, still clinging to the door, was thrown off by the crash, flying 15 feet and hitting the ground hard.
The truck stopped, and Ava got out.
She walked to the car and saw Sharon unconscious, her face bloody. Ava sneered, opened the door, and dragged Sharon out.
She tossed Sharon into the truck's cargo area and sped off.
Not long after the truck left, the smoking car exploded, flames shooting up and thick smoke drawing attention from afar.
Inside the Edwards Group CEO's Office,
Victor's face was dark as he realized his plan had gone south. He threw the documents at Dominic.
"What the hell are you doing? I said bring her here, not kill her. If Seb finds out, we're done for!"
Dominic kept his head down. "Mr. Edwards, our guys picked a spot with no cameras, so it shouldn't be traced back. Plus, they haven't found Ms. Wright's body, so maybe..."
"Shut up!"
Victor thought, 'The car burned to ashes and exploded. What could they find? It's probably all gone. No, this has to be covered up!'
"Where are the guys you sent?"
"One's badly hurt and in a coma at the hospital. I told the other two to lay low."
"Get them out of the country now. Seb can't know I had anything to do with this. Make it look like an accident."
"Yes, sir!"
After Dominic left, Victor still felt a heavy weight on his chest.
Sharon's car accident was undeniably linked to him. Given Seb's feelings for Sharon, he couldn't imagine what would happen if Seb found out.
Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Victor quickly thought about any details he might have missed.
Meanwhile, Grace got a call from Ava.
"I've got her. What's next?"
Grace gave an address and said softly, "Just drop her off there. Don't worry about the rest."
"That's it?"
Ava sounded shocked. She thought Grace would want her to finish Sharon off herself.
"Yep, that's it. Once you're done, you can go grab your family."
"Alright."
Hanging up, Grace's lips curled into a smile, her heart dancing with joy.
She wasn't gonna let Sharon die that easy. She wanted to crush her spirit and make her life a living hell!
Inside the Silvercrest Group Conference Room, Seb was in a meeting when the door suddenly burst open, and Paul rushed in, looking flustered.
Everyone in the room shot him dirty looks.
"Mr. Harris, we're in a meeting. What are you doing?"
"How can Mr. Smith keep such an unprofessional secretary?"
"Yeah, does he also act this rashly when Mr. Smith is negotiating with partners?"
Paul ignored the glares and snide comments. He quickly ran to Seb's side and whispered something in his ear.
Then, the shareholders saw their usually stone-faced CEO, Seb, turn pale. When he stood up, he wobbled, and if Paul hadn't caught him, he might've fallen back into his chair.
The room went dead silent. Everyone was guessing what could've happened to shake Seb so bad.
Paul's words hit Seb like a sledgehammer. 'Car accident... exploded... no remains?' Seb felt the world spinning, his brain shutting down like the car itself had just blown up.
He tried to stand but found his legs weak and shaky.
Paul held him up and whispered, "Mr. Smith, please calm down."
Seb shook off his hand, leaning on the conference table. It took him a full ten seconds to pull himself together.
Seb straightened up, his voice icy. "Meeting adjourned."
With that, Seb quickly walked out, his face back to its usual cold mask.
But when Seb had said "meeting adjourned," everyone could hear the tremor in his voice.
After Seb left, the room buzzed with chatter.
"What happened? Why does Mr. Smith look so bad?"
"Could it be something wrong with the company?"
"No way. Even when the company was on the brink of bankruptcy, he didn't look like this. It must be something personal."
After a long discussion, they couldn't figure it out and left one by one.
Paul followed Seb closely, watching his steady steps, as if he had returned to the unflappable Mr. Smith. He quickly caught up.
"Mr. Smith..."
Seb cut him off, "I'm going to the accident scene."
Until he saw it with his own eyes, he wouldn't believe a word Paul said.
Noticing Seb's tense expression, Paul sighed, his face showing some pity. "Mr. Smith, Ms. Wright's car is completely burned up. There's nothing left. She's probably..."
"Until I see her body, I won't believe a word you say."
Seeing Seb's denial, Paul's eyes flashed with sympathy.
"Mr. Smith, the car exploded. There's no way she could've survived that."
