Chapter 33 Receiving the Bag

Elizabeth asked, "Susan, when will Mr. Smith's subordinates come to take our fingerprints?"

Susan replied, "They're scheduled to come this afternoon, but don't worry. The fingerprint collection won't interfere with your experiments."

"Got it." Elizabeth replied.

Susan nodded slightly. "That's all for now, so you can go back to work."

Elizabeth almost ran back to her workstation in a panic. The thought of Mr. Smith's subordinates coming to take fingerprints in the afternoon and uncovering that she had switched the labels made her extremely anxious.

Elizabeth looked up at Irene, her eyes full of a plea for help.

Irene frowned slightly, then got up and walked towards the restroom, with Elizabeth following closely behind.

Once inside the restroom, and after confirming no one else was there, Irene quickly locked the door and asked coldly, "What's with the worried look on your face?"

Elizabeth's hands trembled, and her voice shook as she said, "Susan just told me that the Silvercrest Group has sent an investigation team. They found several fingerprints on the labels of the dilute sulfuric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid. This afternoon, they will take all our fingerprints for comparison."

Irene's face darkened, and she glared at Elizabeth. "You idiot. Didn't you know to wear gloves when switching the labels?"

"I was too panicked at the time and completely forgot. By the time I remembered, it was too late." Elizabeth was almost in tears, her face full of panic. "Irene, what should I do? You have to help me."

Irene was clearly impatient, "How can I help you? Do you think I can replace your fingerprints with someone else's?"

When Sharon's experimental bottle exploded, Seb's secretary immediately sealed off the lab and the reagent storage room. Irene and Elizabeth had no chance to go in and wipe off the fingerprints. Moreover, Irene never expected Elizabeth to be so foolish as to leave such a glaring flaw.

Elizabeth said, "But I can't lose this job, otherwise, I won't be able to pay for my mom's medical bills."

Elizabeth was willing to take action for Irene's schemes, because she hoped her father could get a job to help share the burden of the medical expenses.

If Elizabeth lost this job, what would all the effort have been for?

Sensing Elizabeth's emotional turmoil, Irene's eyes flashed. She had to find a way to calm Elizabeth down, or she herself would also be implicated.

Irene comforted her, "Don't worry. I heard that a company in the country is developing realistic gloves that can even replicate fingerprints. I'll find a way to get you a pair, and you'll be able to handle the situation this afternoon."

"Really?" A glimmer of hope appeared in Elizabeth's eyes as she looked at Irene excitedly.

Irene replied, "Yes, you go back to work. I'll make a call to my dad."

"Okay." Elizabeth agreed.

After Elizabeth left, Irene dialed Ted's number and said, "Dad, I need your help."

Meanwhile, Susan was on the phone with Paul.

Hearing Susan's words, Paul smiled and said, "Ms. Lewis, I need to consult Mr. Smith about this matter."

After hanging up, Paul knocked and walked into Seb's office. "Mr. Smith, Ms. Lewis from Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals needs our help. She's requesting that we send a team to gather fingerprints from all the folks in their R&D department."

Seb frowned slightly and looked up at him. "Why?"

Paul said, "She said this would help determine if Ms. Wright's reagent labels were switched during the experiment."

Seb agreed, "Understood. You handle it."

After Paul left, Seb's attention returned to the documents, but he felt somewhat uneasy.

When Sharon was treating her wounds today, he noticed at least eight cuts on her hands. Her endurance was remarkable; she didn't even make a sound during the treatment.

Thinking about this, Seb's brow furrowed unconsciously.

Seb thought, 'Why am I concerned about whether Sharon is in pain? She isn't my wife.'

Feeling irritated, he took a lighter from the drawer and lit a cigarette, which slightly alleviated his discomfort.

Not long after Sharon returned to her apartment, the doorbell rang.

Sharon checked the monitor and saw it was Joseph, so she went to open the door and asked, "Hello, Mr. Martinez, is there something I can help you with?"

Joseph replied, "Mrs. Smith, this is a bag Mr. Smith sent you."

Seeing the latest Chanel bag in Joseph's hand, Sharon was taken aback. "Why would he suddenly send me a bag?" she asked.

Joseph explained, "Mr. Smith said you seemed upset, so he wanted to give you a gift to cheer you up."

Sharon wasn't particularly interested in the bag, but since it was a gesture from Alex, she wouldn't refuse it.

She nodded, took the bag, and replied, "Please thank him on my behalf."

Noticing that Sharon didn't seem very excited, Joseph tentatively asked, "Mrs. Smith, do you not like the bag?"

Sharon replied, "It's okay. I prefer gold over bags."

After all, gold had a higher liquidity value, and jewelry made of gold was also beautiful.

Joseph was stunned, not expecting Sharon's preferences to be so simple. "Alright, I understand. I'll convey that to Mr. Smith. I'll get back to work now."

After Joseph left, Sharon returned to the living room, placed the bag on the table, and took a photo of it to send to Sophie.

Sophie: [What's this about?]

Sharon: [Help me see how much this bag can sell for.]

Sophie: [Alex send it?]

Sharon: [Yes.]

Sophie immediately called. "That bag is the latest from Chanel. Conservatively, it can sell for $400,000. There are only two in the market, so it's hard to find. Alex really went out of his way to cheer you up."

Sharon lowered her eyes, showing no emotion on her face. "See if anyone is interested in this bag. I want to sell it."

Sophie was a bit surprised but, given Sharon's personality, she found Sharon's decision very reasonable.

Sophie said, "If you don't want it, sell it to me. I've been looking for this bag and couldn't find it."

Sharon said casually, "Just come over and take it. It's yours."

Sophie asked, "Seriously? A $400,000 bag, just like that?"

Sharon replied, "Well; it's Alex's money anyway."

Compared to the money Alex spent on Ava, this bag was nothing.

Sophie said, "You must take the money. If you don't, I won't take the bag."

Sharon agreed, "Then just pay me the original price."

Sophie replied, "Alright, I'll send someone to pick it up later. I have an event tonight."

In the evening, Alex returned to the mansion after work. The servant had already packed food to be sent to Sharon. He said in a deep voice, "Pack some extra food. I want to have dinner with her tonight."

"Yes, Mr. Smith," the servant replied.

As the servant repacked the food, Alex took it and drove himself to find Sharon.
