Chapter 155 Are You Not Embarrassed Enough?
Leo, on the other end of the phone, paused and whispered, "Is someone with you?"
"Yeah."
"That's all."
After hanging up, Sharon looked at Seb. "Why'd you suddenly ask about dinner?"
Seb stayed calm. "Just saw you and asked. Did I interrupt your call?"
"No."
Sharon found it odd that Seb spoke while she was still on the phone.
Seb, ignoring Sharon's confusion, asked, "Who was that?"
"Karen's son Leo. He went abroad when I was in college. We don't talk much, so I never mentioned him."
Seb squinted but didn't press further.
They went to the restaurant Seb suggested. As they were finishing, Alex, fresh from a business meeting, spotted them.
Alex's eyes turned cold. After sending his client off, he walked over.
"Uncle Seb, Sharon, what a coincidence."
Hearing Alex, Sharon lost her appetite and stayed silent, looking cold.
Seb remained indifferent. "You're disturbing us."
Alex chuckled. "Uncle Seb, I just came to say hi. If I didn't, people might think I'm rude. But Sharon and I just divorced, and you two are already dining together. Isn't that a bit quick?"
Sharon frowned and finally looked up.
"No matter how quick, it's not as quick as you. You were already with Ava while we were still married."
The disgust in Sharon's eyes was clear. Alex felt a sting and his face darkened.
"Sharon, we're divorced. Dwelling on the past is pointless. Or do you still have feelings for me?"
Sharon's eyes flashed with mockery. "You wish."
She'd been cheated on so many times. If she still had feelings for Alex, she'd be crazy.
Just as Alex was about to speak, his phone rang.
After a brief call, Alex's face turned icy. "Did you hire a lawyer to sue mom for slander?"
Sharon didn't expect Mark to act so fast. She smiled and raised her chin. "Mrs. Clark is your mom, not mine. Get it straight. And she did lie about me hitting her. What's wrong with suing her?"
"She's an elder. How can you treat her like this?"
Seb raised an eyebrow. "What elder? Sharon is my girlfriend now. You should call her Aunt Sharon. Watch your mouth and show some respect."
Alex's face turned green, like he was about to puke.
He clenched his jaw. "Uncle Seb, you two aren't married yet."
"Is that how you talk to me?"
Seeing Seb use his own words against him, anger flashed in Alex's eyes. "Uncle Seb, your relationship with Sharon disgraces the Smith family. What attitude do you expect me to have?"
"The one disgracing the Smith family is you."
Alex gritted his teeth and sneered. "I have to go to the police station. I don't want to argue. You'll regret this!"
With that, he stormed off.
Sharon felt a mix of emotions. Alex was clearly scared of Seb but still tried to act tough. She couldn't believe she once loved such a coward.
After Alex left, Sharon continued eating her steak like nothing happened.
She noticed Seb staring at her. "Is there something on my face? Why are you staring?"
"Nothing, just thought he might upset you."
"He's a stranger to me now. No point letting him get to me."
"That's good."
After dinner, Seb and Sharon went straight back to the villa.
At the police station, Alex and his lawyer bailed Clara out over an hour later.
Clara was fuming. "That bitch Sharon sued me. I won't let her get away with this!"
The lawyer said seriously, "Mrs. Clark, they have evidence for the slander lawsuit. You need to apologize and compensate."
"Apologize? No way!"
The lawyer sighed. "If you don't, it could make things worse."
"I'll pay more, but I won't apologize!"
Seeing Clara's stubbornness, the lawyer looked at Alex.
"Mr. Smith, what do you think?"
Alex took a deep breath. "Negotiate with their lawyer. Offer more money, but no personal apology."
He understood Clara's feelings. Even he couldn't stomach apologizing to Sharon.
"Got it."
After the lawyer left, Alex gave Clara a cold look and headed to the car.
Clara hesitated but followed.
In the car, Clara couldn't hold back. "Sharon's going too far. Does she think being with Seb means she can ignore us?"
Alex looked at her, eyes cold. "She can ignore us because we can't compete with Seb. Next time, think before you act. Don't give Sharon a reason to hit back."
Clara was stunned and about to retort when her phone started dinging.
She opened Facebook to dozens of messages in socialite groups.
[I heard Clara slandered Sharon and got sued. She ended up at the police station tonight?]
[Yeah, Clara, the Smith family's daughter-in-law, slandered Sharon. So embarrassing!]
[Clara always acts so high and mighty. I heard she left the police station in disgrace, lol.]
Seeing the mocking messages, Clara's face turned ashen. She started arguing in the chat, only to be ridiculed more.
Seeing Clara trembling with anger, Alex said coldly, "Enough, haven't you embarrassed yourself enough?"
