Chapter 32 Fingerprint Comparison
Sharon frowned, wondering what this had to do with Seb.
She explained, "When the accident happened in the lab, Seb was there too. He got injured as well, so he brought me here."
Seeing that she showed no reaction when mentioning Seb, Alex finally felt relieved. "Alright, even though he's my uncle, he's still a man. If you ever have any problems, make sure to call me."
Sharon wouldn't seek help from Alex, but she didn't want to argue about it either, so she simply nodded. "Got it. I'm heading back now. And you?"
Alex said, "I'll take you back. Since your hand is injured, cooking will be difficult. Move back to the house for now, and you can return to your rented place once you're better."
Sharon's eyes flashed with displeasure as she stared at him. "I'm just banged up, not paralyzed. I can take care of myself."
After a moment of staring at each other, Alex finally relented. "Fine, then I'll have the maid prepare meals and deliver them to you every day."
Seeing that she was about to object, he added in a stern tone, "Either come back to the house with me or let the maid deliver meals. You choose."
Having spent seven years with Alex, Sharon knew his personality well. He rarely compromised, and if she refused again, he might really drag her back to the mansion.
Sharon replied, "I'll choose the latter."
A slight smile finally appeared on Alex's lips, and his gaze softened considerably. "I'll take you back."
Upon learning that Sharon hadn't moved to the Regal Heights, he frowned slightly. "Why didn't you move there?"
Sharon replied, "I'm used to living in the rented place. I'll think about it later."
Seeing that she didn't want to discuss it further, Alex felt a bit displeased but held back from asking more.
On the way back to Sharon's rented house, he wanted to chat with Sharon, but as soon as they got in the car, he received a call from a business partner. The call lasted until they were almost at the entrance of Fortune Garden.
Turning to look at her delicate but expressionless profile, Alex felt a pang of bitterness.
In the past, when they were alone together, Sharon always had a smile on her face and kept talking to him, never seeming to tire. But now, she was cold and silent towards him.
Alex reminded, "Sharon, please be careful not to get your hand wet these days. If you have any difficulties, remember to call me."
Sharon nodded indifferently. "Got it."
Alex sensed that she didn't take his words to heart, and his mood instantly turned gloomy. Feeling his emotional shift, Sharon remained unresponsive.
In the past, she cared about his busy work schedule and wanted him to relax when they were together, so she always paid attention to his emotions. This had become a habit.
It seemed it was time for her to change this habit quickly.
The car soon stopped at the entrance of Fortune Garden. Alex wanted to walk her upstairs, but she refused, "Today's experiment failed, and I injured my hand. I'm in a bad mood and want to be alone. See you."
She didn't give Alex a chance to speak, closing the car door and walking away.
The temperature inside the car dropped instantly. After a moment of hesitation, Joseph, who was in the passenger seat, said softly, "Mr. Smith, I've heard that giving women a handbag can brighten their mood when they're upset. How about getting one for Mrs. Smith?"
Alex frowned and said in a deep voice, "Go ahead and make the arrangements."
"Okay." Joseph replied.
Sensing the atmosphere in the car lighten considerably, Joseph instructed the driver to head back to the company.
However, Alex's face remained grim. After all, he clearly saw Sharon's attitude towards him today, which was almost like a rejection.
But ultimately, it was his infidelity that caused this. Sharon's current attitude towards him was the consequence he deserved. He just didn't know how long it would take for her to forgive him and return to their previous state.
In the manager's office of the R&D department at Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals, Susan sat behind her desk, reviewing the morning's surveillance footage from the lab building.
There were no cameras inside the lab or the reagent storage room, so she could only check the footage from the hallway.
After watching it several times, Susan's gaze finally fixed on Elizabeth.
In just over an hour, Elizabeth appeared on the footage several times, and during the third time, she seemed a bit flustered.
If the labels on the dilute sulfuric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid were indeed switched, Elizabeth was undoubtedly the prime suspect.
Susan turned off the surveillance footage and instructed her assistant to notify Elizabeth to come to the office.
Hearing that Susan wanted to see her, Elizabeth's heart tightened, and she couldn't help but glance at Irene, who sat diagonally across from her.
However, Irene didn't look at her at all, maintaining a nonchalant demeanor.
With no other choice, Elizabeth followed Susan's assistant to the office.
Just as she reached the door, her phone vibrated—it was a message from Irene: [No matter what Susan asks you, you must insist that this has nothing to do with you and that you don't know anything. And If you dare to confess about me, you know the consequences.]
Elizabeth quickly replied: [Got it.]
Irene soon retracted the message.
Elizabeth put away her phone and walked into the office, where Susan looked at her with a neutral expression.
"Have a seat," Susan said.
Taking a seat opposite Susan, Elizabeth feigned confusion and asked, "Susan, what do you need from me?"
Susan asked, "Why did you go back and forth between the lab and the R&D department several times this morning?"
Elizabeth unconsciously clenched her hands, trying to stay calm, and said, "When I went to the lab to prepare for the experiment this morning, I realized I hadn't recorded some data from yesterday, so I went back to do it."
Susan continued, "Did you go to the reagent storage room during that time?"
"No," Elizabeth shook her head and then looked up at Susan with some disbelief. "Susan, are you suspecting me? I have no grudge against Sharon; why would I harm her?"
Seeing the hurt in her eyes, Susan remained composed. "I'm not suspecting you. I'm just asking everyone who went to the lab this morning. Since there's no surveillance in the reagent storage room, we can't confirm if someone switched the labels."
Hearing this, Elizabeth felt a bit relieved. She knew there were no cameras there, so she dared to switch the labels.
Susan didn't miss the change in her expression and said calmly, "Although there's no surveillance in the reagent storage room, Mr. Smith sent someone to extract some fingerprints from the labels on the bottles of concentrated and dilute sulfuric acid. They plan to compare them with the fingerprints of everyone in the R&D department. If no one's fingerprints match, then we can basically rule out the possibility of someone switching the labels."
The smile on Elizabeth's face gradually became stiff. She had been too flustered at the time and hadn't thought to wear gloves.
If her fingerprints were found, it would be discovered that she switched the labels!
