Chapter 584 Push Her Downfall If Necessary.
Sharon glared at Carolyn. "You promised I could visit Dad anytime. Are you backing out on me again?"
Carolyn paused, then spoke, "You can see him after work, but not during work hours."
"Fine, I'll go tomorrow night."
With that, Sharon stormed out.
Carolyn watched her leave, her eyes narrowing.
The phone on her desk rang. Seeing it was Dash, she picked up.
"Dash, why are you calling now?"
A cold voice came through. "Carolyn, I heard you sold the southern land to the Bermad Family?"
Carolyn's grip tightened. "How did you find out?"
"It doesn't matter. What matters is you need to buy it back now, or I'm done supporting you!"
Dash had backed Carolyn to lead the Stoll family because she promised to move them south. Moving south was a dream for many in the Stoll family. They were stuck in the northern part of Stellaria, which couldn't compete with the prosperous south. Moving south was crucial for their growth.
They had spent over a year securing that southern land to make it their new base. But before they could even start planning, Carolyn sold it to the Bermad Family for her foolish son!
Just thinking about it made Dash furious.
Carolyn's eyes darkened. "Dash, if we try to get that land back now, the Bermad Family will bleed us dry."
"That's your problem. I just want that land. Without it, not only will I stop supporting you, but everyone else who backed you will abandon you too. You wouldn't want us to support Mary's son Ewan instead, would you?"
"Are you threatening me?"
Dash let out a cold laugh. "It's not a threat, it's a fact. Gareth is a fool. I suggest you cut him loose before he drags you down further."
Carolyn's face was grim. "Don't worry, I'll find another piece of land, just as big and in a better location."
"Fine, you have a month. If you don't have the land by then, you can retire and enjoy your old age."
With that, Dash hung up.
Carolyn slammed the phone down, her face full of anger.
A month. Where was she supposed to find such a piece of land in such a short time?
Carolyn had thought Dash wouldn't find out so quickly, so she was still considering how to handle the land issue. She hadn't expected Ross to leak the information so soon.
Thinking of this, Carolyn's anger flared up again. She picked up the phone and dialed Ross's number.
The call was quickly answered, but it wasn't Ross's voice on the other end.
"Hello, Mrs. Stoll. This is Mr. Bermad's butler. Mr. Bermad is resting now. If you have any matters, please call back in the morning."
Carolyn took a deep breath. "Tell Ross that I won't let him get away with this!"
With that, she hung up the phone.
Carolyn now realized that Ross had been plotting against her from the moment Gareth fought with the Bermad Family. They had probably even set up the fight.
Carolyn's face was grim as she ordered the butler to bring Gareth to her.
Ten minutes later, Gareth walked into the study, trembling. "Mom, what do you need?"
Carolyn looked at him coldly. "How did you get into a fight with the Bermad Family?"
Gareth's expression changed. "Mom, why are you asking about that now? Did something happen?"
"Answer me!"
Frightened by Carolyn's stern gaze, Gareth quickly explained, "I had a fight with you that day, so I went to a bar to drink. I met a woman there, and after a few drinks, I planned to take her to a hotel. As we were leaving, someone from the Bermad Family showed up."
"So, you fought over that woman and ended up in a brawl?"
Gareth nodded, keeping his head down, not daring to meet Carolyn's eyes.
Carolyn let out a cold laugh. "You really are a fool, not even realizing you were set up!"
That woman was clearly in cahoots with the Bermad Family. Once Gareth took the bait, they provoked him into a fight, then took him away.
Thinking about the land she had worked so hard to secure, only to sell it because of Gareth, Carolyn's anger surged.
She grabbed a file from the desk and hurled it at Gareth.
"Get out! I don't want to see you!"
The sharp edge of the file cut Gareth's forehead, and blood started to trickle down. But Gareth didn't dare wipe it away, realizing the magnitude of the disaster he had caused.
If Carolyn lost faith in him, he would never inherit the Stoll family.
Gareth quickly knelt in front of Carolyn. "Mom, I know I messed up. I'll do whatever you say from now on. Please, just give me another chance."
Carolyn pushed him away. "Forgive you? Gareth, forget about inheriting the Stoll family. To save you from the Bermad Family, I sold the southern land to them. Now Dash knows, and soon everyone else will too. Do you think they'll still support me as the head of the Stoll family?"
Once Carolyn was ousted, she would never regain her position.
Gareth's face turned pale, and he collapsed to the floor, drained of all energy.
Seeing him like this, Carolyn felt even more annoyed.
"Get out! I don't want to see you!"
After the initial shock and disbelief, Gareth looked up at Carolyn. "Mom, I'll go to the Bermad Family and get the land back!"
He got up and headed for the door.
"Stop!" Carolyn's face was livid. "Even if you go, they won't give the land back! Stay home and don't do anything. If you cause more trouble, don't blame me for cutting you off!"
Gareth lowered his head. "Got it."
Leaving the study, Gareth returned to his room, feeling lost.
He didn't know how to fix his mistake. The southern land was crucial.
Damn the Bermad Family! The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He had to get revenge!
But first, he needed to solve this problem.
After thinking for a long time, Gareth decided to contact Alton.
"Alton, I need your help."
Alton's voice was indifferent. "I can't help you. I'm in trouble myself."
Since Carolyn threatened to cut ties with him, Felix Roach also disowned him.
Now he was like a pariah, shunned by everyone.
"Alton, I really have no other options. You're the only one I can turn to."
"I really can't help you."
With that, Alton hung up.
When Gareth called back, the phone was off.
He threw his phone on the bed in frustration, pacing around his room, unable to think of a solution.
Finally, Gareth called the butler to his room and asked him to find out where Alton was. He would go see Alton in person.
The butler hesitated. "Gareth, if Mrs. Stoll finds out you went to see Alton, she'll be very angry."
"Whether she's angry or not, I have to see Alton. Do as I say, and I'll take responsibility."
After a moment's hesitation, the butler decided to follow Gareth's instructions.
He also hoped Carolyn and Alton would reconcile. Without Alton's help, Carolyn's work was much harder and left her vulnerable to criticism.
An hour later, Gareth stood at Alton's villa, ringing the doorbell.
Alton saw Gareth on the security camera and frowned, pretending not to see him, and went back to his room.
But Gareth seemed determined. He kept ringing the doorbell, making it impossible for Alton to sleep.
After half an hour of the noise, Alton finally gave in and opened the door.
"Alton, you finally agreed to see me."
Alton's expression was cold as he poured himself a glass of water and sat on the couch.
"I told you, I can't help you."
Alton had no intention of helping Gareth.
Gareth sat across from Alton. "If you don't help me, I'm finished. The Bermad Family set me up, causing a fight and then using me to force my mom to sell the southern land. Now those who supported my mom are ready to betray her."
Gareth's face was full of anger and frustration.
Alton remained indifferent, showing no emotion.
"This has nothing to do with me. I told you, I can't help you."
"Alton, my mom is your aunt, and I'm your cousin. We're family. Can you really watch us lose everything?"
Alton looked at him. "Why not? Many people have lost everything because of your family's greed. It's only fair you experience the same."
Only when Carolyn felt Sharon's pain would she regret her actions.
Until then, Alton wouldn't help her with anything.
If Carolyn had to lose everything to realize her mistakes, then so be it.
Alton wouldn't just refuse to help Carolyn; he would push her downfall if necessary.
