Chapter 242 You're Nothing But a Toy I keep
Sensing Alex's mood shift, Joseph kept going, "Dude, if you go up against Seb Smith now, you're toast. Wanna take him on? We gotta be tough enough to not give a damn about Silvercrest. That's the only way."
"Yeah, you're right. I gotta get back to work."
It wasn't just about getting Sharon back; Alex wanted to crush Seb too.
Seeing Alex take his advice, Joseph finally let out a sigh of relief.
"Oh, and Ava's almost good to go. She'll be outta here tomorrow. What's the plan?"
Hearing Ava's name, Alex's eyes went ice-cold. "Get her over here to kneel. She stays put until Sharon forgives her.. And keep tabs on her family. If she refuses, we'll deal with them instead."
Ava might be selfish, but she was all about family.
Everything Alex had given her, she sold and sent the cash back home to Walter Kim and Thalia Patel to build a house. She even paid for her brother Theodore Kim's wedding.
Alex had told her that her family just wanted her money and didn't care about her, but Ava didn't buy it.
Now, he could use her family to keep her in line.
"Got it."
After Alex headed back to the office, Joseph went to the hospital.
Since the miscarriage, Ava had been stuck in the hospital.
She tried to bail a few times, but each time she got caught and dragged back. Eventually, she gave up and just lay there, staring out the window.
With a click, the door opened. Joseph walked in and saw Ava lying there, not moving.
Joseph felt zero sympathy for her.
Even though they worked together for a bit, Ava always slacked off, dumping her work on others. But since she hooked up with Alex, the other secretaries had to cover for her, even though they hated it.
Joseph never thought Ava would be gutsy enough to get knocked up by someone else and try to pin it on Alex.
Joseph walked over, looking down at her coldly. "Ava, you can leave now."
Ava's eyes finally moved. She looked up at Joseph. "For real?"
"Yeah, but Mr. Smith says you gotta kneel at Ms. Wright's place until she forgives you."
"No way!" Ava's face twisted with anger, her eyes burning with hate.
'Making me kneel to Sharon, the person I hate most, is worse than death!' Ava thought.
Joseph's face stayed blank. "If you don't, Walter Kim, Thalia Patel, and your brother Theodore Kim might have some... accidents. Who knows what could happen?"
Ava stared at him, shocked. "You're threatening me?"
"Not a threat, just a heads-up. You can say no, but think about if you can handle what comes next."
With that, Joseph turned and left.
The door closed behind him, and the guards outside left too.
Ava bit her lip, her mind racing. She still had over ten million dollars in her account—enough for the whole family to skip town and hide overseas where no one could find them.
Just as Ava was about to change and buy tickets to get Walter, Thalia, and Theodore out of there, her phone on the bedside table rang.
Seeing "Mom" flash on the screen, Ava quickly picked up.
"Mom, you guys..."
Before she could finish, a panicked voice cut her off, "Ava, Alex sent people to take us to see you. We ate something they gave us, and now we're locked in a room. We don't know where we are. Ask Alex what's going on?"
Ava froze, feeling like she just got dunked in ice water.
'Alex actually kidnapped Walter, Thalia, and Theodore to mess with me!' she cursed silently.
Thalia's frantic voice kept going on the phone. Ava took a deep breath and said softly, "Mom, don't worry. You'll be fine. I'll go talk to Alex."
She hung up and bolted to the company to find Alex.
Ava waited all day and finally saw Alex after work.
As soon as Alex stepped out of the elevator, Ava rushed to block him, gritting her teeth. "Alex, our beef has nothing to do with my family. Let them go!"
"Did you kneel and apologize to Sharon?"
Facing his cold, questioning stare, Ava flinched, avoiding eye contact.
She wanted to say she wouldn't do it, but she knew that'd just put Walter, Thalia, and Theodore in more danger.
"I had Joseph tell you, as long as Sharon doesn't forgive you, you won't see Walter and Thalia. Don't even think about running. I've already got the bank to freeze all your assets. You're stuck."
Tears welled up in Ava's eyes as she looked up at him. "Alex, are you really this heartless?"
Alex's face twisted with disgust. "I'm only asking you to get Sharon's forgiveness. If I were truly heartless, I could think of a hundred ways to end you for cheating on me!"
The coldness in his eyes reminded Ava that Alex had never loved her, not even a bit.
Ava thought, 'Otherwise, how could Alex not care about being cheated on?'
She bit her lip, wiping away her tears. "Alex, you never had feelings for me, did you?"
A look of contempt flashed in Alex's eyes. "You were just a toy to me. I married you to make Sharon jealous. I don't care about the kid you were carrying."
At that moment, Ava finally gave up.
He'd never loved her, and he never would.
"Fine, I get it. I'll go ask Sharon for forgiveness."
With that, Ava turned and left.
Alex watched her go, his face blank, eyes cold.
That evening, Sharon got a call from security, saying a woman was looking for her.
As Sharon walked to the door and saw it was Ava, she turned to leave, but Ava suddenly dropped to her knees with a thud.
"Ms. Wright, I'm sorry. Please forgive me."
Sharon turned and noticed Ava's flat belly, a look of surprise flashing in her eyes.
She thought, 'By now, Ava's pregnant belly should be showing.'
But she wasn't interested in digging into it. She coldly said, "Ava, I have nothing to say to you. Please leave."
She couldn't understand why Alex and Ava had been acting so crazy lately, both coming to apologize to her.
"Ms. Wright, please forgive me. Alex has my family. He said if you don't forgive me, he won't let them go."
