Chapter 214 It's Already Causing Me Trouble
Next, this needed to blow up. If Sharon wasn't pushed to the edge, she wouldn't stay by his side.
Leo's smile grew. He believed he'd soon be with Sharon.
On the way back, Ashley cried her heart out in the taxi.
She never thought Leo, the first guy she liked, would use her to scheme against Sharon, especially since Sharon is his sister.
At home, Ashley cried more and took hours to calm down.
She was about to call Sharon when a news alert popped up on her phone.
[Silvercrest Group's Experimental Data Leaked Amid CEO's Romantic Dispute—Revenge or Profit?]
Ashley clicked on it. The post accused Sharon of leaking data and exposed her past with Seb.
The article claimed Sharon leaked the data to get back at Seb for dumping her.
Ashley was furious, especially seeing all the comments cursing Sharon. She got even angrier and started arguing with them.
Sometimes, she tried to explain calmly, but no one believed her. People just wanted drama, not the truth.
Ashley took a deep breath and exited Facebook. She was about to call Sharon when her mom called.
"Ashley, come back quick. Your dad's in trouble!"
Meanwhile, Leo got a call too.
"Mr. Wendy, it's done."
Leo's lips curled up. "Did you pass on my message?"
"Yes."
"Good."
Leo hung up, still smiling, but his eyes were cold.
He wouldn't let anyone ruin his plans. He hoped Ashley would be smart; otherwise, her dad Jacob Martin wouldn't just lose a leg next time.
Soon after, Ashley called.
"Leo, you made my dad lose a leg. Sharon will never like someone as cruel as you!"
Leo's smile turned icy. "Say that again?"
His voice was chilling, and even through the phone, Ashley felt a piercing cold.
She shivered, her voice trembling, "Did I say something wrong? You're selfish and cruel!"
"Ashley, you'll soon pay for angering me."
Leo hung up.
In the hospital, Ashley regretted her words immediately. She knew Leo was a madman; why did she call to vent?
Ashley held her phone, hesitating whether to call Sharon and tell her Leo was behind the data leak.
But then she remembered what her mom, Harper Campbell, had said earlier, and she hesitated again.
Her family was ordinary. Harper and Jacob had raised her with difficulty. She could disregard herself, but not them.
While Ashley was torn, Harper came out of the ward with a stack of bills. "Ashley, here's the payment slip. We need to prepay thirty thousand dollars."
Not long ago, Harper and Jacob had emptied their savings to buy Ashley a small house on the outskirts of Metropolis. Now they didn't even have ten thousand, let alone thirty thousand.
Ashley took a deep breath and accepted the payment slip. "Mom, go back and take care of Dad. I'll handle the money."
Harper looked guilty. "Ashley, I'm sorry. We don't have the money and are causing you trouble."
Harper knew Ashley didn't have that much money either. The only option was to borrow.
"Maybe I should ask our relatives again..."
Ashley cut her off. "Mom, you already borrowed a lot for my down payment, and we haven't even started repaying it. They'll be upset if we ask again. I'll figure it out, don't worry."
"Alright."
Ashley took the payment slip and started calling her classmates and friends.
In the Silvercrest Group CEO's office, Seb glared at Paul. "Didn't I say to keep this secret?"
Paul was stressed. He had told everyone not to spread the news about the data leak. He didn't know how it got out.
"Mr. Smith, I'll investigate right away."
"You have one hour. I don't want to see any more news about this!"
Seb stood up and walked out. Paul quickly followed. "Mr. Smith, where are you going? I'll arrange a car."
"No need. Just do what I told you."
Seb left, and Paul finally breathed a sigh of relief. He cursed inwardly, 'Who leaked this? When I find out, they'll pay!'
This incident seemed targeted at Sharon.
'Who hates Sharon enough to ruin her?' Paul wondered.
He shook his head, stopped thinking about it, and quickly arranged for people to remove the trending topic and investigate which account first posted the news.
When the doorbell rang, Sharon was reading the exposé online.
Her relationship with Seb wasn't widely known, and the exposé included details only a few people knew. So, the person must be close to her.
No matter how she thought about it, she felt Ashley was highly suspicious.
But emotionally, Sharon didn't believe Ashley would do such a thing. After all, it wouldn't benefit Ashley.
Hearing the doorbell, Sharon got up and walked to the door. Seeing it was Seb, she hesitated but opened the door.
"Mr. Smith, what brings you here?"
"You saw the trending topic, right?"
Seb scanned her face, noticing she seemed relatively calm, and he sighed in relief.
Sharon saw the tension in his eyes. She lowered her gaze. "It's nothing. Did you come here for this?"
"Yes, I'm worried about you."
Sharon frowned, her voice cold. "Mr. Smith, we've broken up. You don't need to worry about me."
"Sharon, you may not accept me, but you can't stop me from caring for and pursuing you."
Seeing Seb still as domineering as before, without considering her feelings, Sharon felt irritated.
"Then I have the right to refuse. I've clearly rejected you, yet you still come to me. You're harassing me."
