Chapter 37 The Kneeling Video

After dropping Karen off at the hospital, Sharon chatted with Robert for a bit before heading back to her apartment.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, Sharon saw Alex standing at her door.

He was leaning against the wall, a cigarette between his fingers. When the light flickered, he instinctively squinted his eyes.

When he noticed Sharon, the cigarette was already extinguished in his hand, and he walked straight up to her.

Alex asked, "I heard you went to Golden Harvest Diner today. Who were you having dinner with?"

Sharon frowned and looked at him displeased. "None of your business, right?"

A shadow flickered in Alex's eyes, and he lowered his voice. "Sharon, I'm not trying to monitor you. I just want to be a part of your life."

Sharon mocked, "Do you really want to be a part of my life, or are you feeling guilty because you took Ava to the banquet today?"

Alex's pupils contracted suddenly, and his heart sank. Clearly, Sharon had seen through his little scheme.

Alex explained, "I went to meet a client today. That client was someone Ava was responsible for before she left the company. She knows the situation better, so I took her with me. I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to misunderstand."

Sharon chuckled lightly, "Is there even a need for misunderstandings between you two?"

Alex said, "Sharon, I can assure you that there's nothing between Ava and me now. The only person I love is you."

Sharon wanted to ask him what kind of client required Ava to dress so flamboyantly and walk into the restaurant arm in arm with him. Anyone who saw that scene would think Ava was his date, not his secretary.

However, she didn't ask, knowing in her heart that it was meaningless.

Sharon said, "Alex, one lie usually needs many more lies to support it."

"Sharon, don't you trust me?" Alex's eyes were fixed on her, showing hurt and sadness.

Sharon found it somewhat amusing. She also wished she could trust him, but shouldn't he do something to make her believe him?

She said, "I'm very tired from work today. I don't want to discuss this with you. Please leave."

Seeing her cold demeanor, Alex unconsciously tightened his hand. His heart gradually shifted from guilt and remorse to impatience.

Alex thought, 'I have already compromised, but Sharon remains extremely cold towards me. I could have chosen a better wife, but I still choose her without hesitation. Now, her unreasonable behavior makes me feel a bit weary. Sometimes, being with her is not as easy as being with Ava. At least, Ava won't embarrass me.'

Thinking of this, he stopped talking. When Sharon walked past him, he didn't stop her or try to explain further.

Upon returning to her apartment, Sharon promptly headed for a shower.

After her shower, she found over a dozen missed calls on her phone, all from Sophie.

Sophie wouldn't call her so many times in such a short period without a significant reason. Clearly, something urgent had happened.

She quickly called back. The phone rang twice before Sophie picked up.

Sophie said, "Sharon, check Twitter right now. You're trending!"

Sharon was surprised. She opened Twitter and saw that something related to her had indeed become a trending topic.

#An employee named Wright from the R&D Department at Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals forced her colleague's father to kneel.#

Clicking into the trending topic, Sharon saw the video of Elizabeth's father kneeling before her. The camera angle was perfect, capturing Eugene's bewildered expression. The comment section was filled with condemnation of Sharon.

[How can someone be so disgusting? I heard her colleague's father is just an honest laborer, but she forced him to kneel. She's really bullying the honest folks!]

[This woman is too much. Doesn't Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals consider firing her?]

[I hope one day her parents have to kneel before someone too. Maybe then she'll understand how it feels.]

Reading the accusations against her, Sharon felt a chill in her heart.

After a moment of silence, Sophie anxiously asked, "Sharon, what on earth is going on?"

Sophie had known Sharon for years and knew she wasn't the type to force someone to kneel. There had to be a misunderstanding. But without knowing the truth, Sophie couldn't defend Sharon online.

Sharon replied, "This is very complicated. Just leave it to me; I'll handle it."

Hanging up the phone, Sharon looked at the rapidly increasing number of condemning comments, her expression growing colder.

Meanwhile, Alex had just returned to the mansion when he received a call from Joseph.

Joseph said, "Mr. Smith, someone posted the video of Elizabeth's father kneeling to Mrs. Smith. People online are all cursing her. Do we need to take the video down?"

Alex's eyes darkened. After a moment, he said in a low voice, "No, let the video stay up. I'll deal with it when she comes to me."

Alex thought, 'I've been way too easy on Sharon lately, which is probably why she's acting so distant. Maybe this whole thing will make her rethink her own status.'

Seb also received news of Sharon being vilified online and immediately contacted her to ask if she needed help taking down the videos.

Hearing Seb's cold voice, Sharon felt a pang of bitterness.

The video had been fermenting for over an hour. If Seb knew about it, Alex must be unaware. Yet, the person who should care the most, Alex, hadn't contacted her at all. Instead, it was Seb asking if she needed help.

Sharon said, "Seb, thanks, but I've got this covered on my own."

Seb asked, "Are you sure?"

Hearing the doubt in Seb's voice, Sharon couldn't help but smile. "Yes, when the man suddenly stopped me downstairs at the company, I was prepared and recorded our conversation. I'll upload the recording online shortly."

Seb was secretly impressed, not expecting her to be so smart as to record the conversation.

He said, "Alright, if you need anything, contact Paul anytime."

Sharon replied, "Okay. Thank you, Seb."

After ending the call, Sharon uploaded the recording and scheduled it for a later release, then took a moment to put on a face mask.

Irene was so cunning, trying to get Sharon fired. But Sharon couldn't let her succeed.

At this moment, the online condemnation of Sharon had reached its peak, and Irene was becoming increasingly smug.

Initially, she was worried Alex might step in to help Sharon, but seeing that he had no intention of intervening, she figured Alex didn't plan to handle the situation. At this rate, Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals would likely buckle under the pressure and fire Sharon by tomorrow.

Imagining a future where she wouldn't have to see Sharon anymore, Irene felt immensely pleased.
