Chapter 40 Hints to Keep Distance

When Alex arrived, Sharon had just woken up.

Due to a mild concussion, the moment Sharon opened her eyes, the world spun around her, making her feel nauseous and forcing her to lie back down with her eyes closed.

Sensing someone's presence, she initially thought Sophie had returned. "Sophie, I feel terrible. I want to throw up."

Seeing her in such pain, Alex felt heartbroken and quickly used a tissue to wipe the cold sweat from her forehead.

As he got closer, Sharon caught a whiff of his cologne and abruptly opened her eyes. Seeing it was Alex, she turned her head away and said with disgust, "Don't touch me."

The rejection in her eyes made Alex's hand freeze in mid-air before he slowly withdrew it. "I won't touch you. If you feel uncomfortable, please let me know."

At this moment, Sharon had no energy to drive him away and could only close her eyes, pretending he wasn't there.

Sophie returned with the medicine, and upon seeing Alex, she was momentarily stunned before a cold smile appeared on her lips. "Mr. Smith, ycoming to see Sharon, huh? Aren't you afraid your mistress will get jealous and cause trouble?"

Ever since Sharon told her about Alex's infidelity, Sophie had seen him attend numerous business events with Ava, who always appeared by his side as his secretary.

Every time she saw Ava's hypocrisy, Sophie would deliberately make things difficult for her, while Alex would sternly warn Sophie not to provoke Ava, showing extreme protectiveness towards her.

Thinking about how Sharon had loved such a scumbag for eight years, Sophie felt a surge of anger.

A flash of displeasure crossed Alex's eyes as he said coldly, "I am Sharon's husband. It's my duty to take care of her. Ms. Lee, if you have something to do, you can leave."

Sophie sneered, "Mr. Smith, you don't seem to have the authority to boss me around. And I definitely won't leave Sharon in your care."

The confrontation between Alex and Sophie filled the air with hostility. But Sharon's coughing interrupted their stare-down.

Upon hearing Sharon's coughing, Sophie quickly walked to the bedside, asking gently, "Sharon, are you still feeling unwell?"

Sharon replied, "Yes, I want some water."

Alex hurriedly poured a glass of water and handed it over, but Sophie took it and fed Sharon a little.

However, Sharon could only take a couple of sips before feeling too uncomfortable to continue.

Seeing Sharon in such pain, Sophie couldn't help but feel heartbroken, and her resentment towards Irene deepened. Although Irene was more severely injured, with multiple fractures and a concussion, it was entirely her own fault.

As Sharon recuperated, Sophie vowed not to let Irene off the hook!

Just then, Sharon's phone suddenly rang.

Alex glanced at it and saw the contact name "Seb." His eyes narrowed sharply, but before he could react, Sophie had already answered the call.

Learning that Seb was coming to visit Sharon, Alex's expression turned icy, and the atmosphere grew tense. Sophie noticed Alex's displeasure but didn't comment, maintaining her smile.

Before long, Seb arrived at the hospital, holding a bouquet of fresh flowers in one hand and a bag of fruit in the other.

Sophie smiled and said, "Mr. Seb Smith, Thank you so much, but why did you come in person?" She had thought Seb was just being polite and would at most send a secretary. Compared to Alex, Sophie had a much better impression of Seb; at least Seb didn't act recklessly.

"I was just nearby." Seb's gaze fell on Sharon's hospital bed, and he frowned slightly. "What did the doctor say? Is it serious?"

Sophie replied, "A mild concussion and some abrasions. She should recover in a few days."

At this moment, Seb was about to speak when Alex coldly interrupted, "Seb, thank you for visiting Sharon, but I know you have a hectic schedule. You don't have to make the trip in person next time."

Alex's tone was dismissive, and his eyes were filled with intense hostility, as if hinting that Seb should keep his distance from Sharon.

Seb looked at him calmly, showing no sign of anger.

Alex was filled with frustration, but Seb's composure left him with no outlet for his rage.

Ignoring Alex, Seb turned to Sophie and said, "Ms. Lee, I have another meeting later, so I'll take my leave now."

Sophie nodded. "Alright, Mr. Seb Smith. I'll see you out."

Seb replied, "No need."

As he left, Alex quickly followed and intercepted him at the elevator, saying coldly, "Seb, I hope you understand that Sharon is my wife, not just any woman. I hope you don't have any inappropriate thoughts."

Seb stared at him with icy eyes. "If I were you, I would be more concerned about Sharon's condition right now, rather than other irrelevant matters."

Alex was infuriated by his words, clenching his fists in anger. "Of course, I care about her condition, but that doesn't mean I can ignore other issues."

Seb let out a slight laugh, a hint of mockery in his eyes. "I remember you were getting cozy with Ava just a few days ago. Maybe you should think about how to keep that from your grandfather."

As he finished speaking, the elevator doors opened, and Seb stepped inside, ignoring Alex.

The elevator doors closed, and Alex's face turned ashen. It was several minutes later when he returned to the hospital room.

Sharon was already fast asleep on the bed, her brows still furrowed, indicating an uneasy rest.

Alex sat down across from Sophie, feeling displeased at the sight of the bouquet on the table. Suddenly, he stood up and threw the flowers off the table.

Seeing this, Sophie couldn't help but frown. She was about to speak, but seeing that Sharon was finally in a deep sleep, she decided to follow Alex out silently.

Watching him throw Seb's flowers into the trash at the end of the hallway, Sophie quickly approached him and asked, "Alex, are you out of your mind? Those flowers were from Mr. Seb Smith for Sharon. What gives you the right to throw them away?"

Alex responded coldly, "As her husband, I have the right to handle it."

Sophie was both angry and amused, thinking to herself how she had once believed Alex genuinely cared for Sharon. Today's behavior made it clear she had been wrong about him.

Sophie said coldly, "Even if Mr. Seb Smith is your uncle, or if it were just a friend giving something to Sharon, you have no right to dispose of it."

Alex's face remained indifferent. "Ms. Lee, I value your friendship with Sharon, and I'd prefer not to argue. However, I can be hot-headed. If you interfere in my matters again, the Lee family should be prepared to face the consequences."

Sophie coldly laughed. "Is that a threat?"

"It's not a threat, just a reminder," Alex replied icily.

Sophie retorted, "Since I'm Sharon's friend, I won't stand by and watch her be mistreated without helping."

A cold glint flashed in Alex's eyes, and he was about to speak when his phone rang. Seeing the name "Ava" flashing on the screen, Alex felt a surge of displeasure.

Sophie also saw the name on the screen, a look of disgust crossing her face. Despite his ambiguous relationship with Ava, Alex still begged Sharon for forgiveness. Such behavior was utterly repulsive.
