Chapter 100 Strong and Defiant

"Mr. Wright, I've got the contract ready. Just come by, and we can seal the deal," Caterlington said with a grin.

Reid's eyes lit up. T. Rowe Group had been a powerhouse for years, with most renovation teams buying their materials from them. Scoring a low-price contract with them would be a game-changer.

"Alright, Mr. Walsh, I'll be there in half an hour," Reid replied.

He hung up, smiling, told his assistant to get ready, grabbed his coat, and headed to the elevator.

Just as he reached the entrance, his assistant pulled up the car. That's when he heard a voice behind him. "Mr. Wright."

Reid froze, his smile fading as he turned to see Selena.

Selena, as cool as ever, gave a slight nod. "Couldn't reach you by phone, Mr. Wright, so I had to wait here. Is our earlier contract still good?"

Reid looked a bit flustered and quickly extended his hand. "Penny, you're here! The front desk didn't tell me."

Selena knew he was bluffing but decided to let it slide.

"It's my fault, Mr. Wright. I just signed a new order and came straight to you. You know it's Mr. Montague's order, and our cooperation is mutually beneficial," Selena said.

Reid cut her off, "Penny, I have to go on a business trip for a meeting right now. I don't have time to look at your order. How about we discuss it when I get back?"

Reid was making excuses. He'd probably found another company but didn't want to let go of Selena just yet since the contract wasn't signed.

A cold glint flashed in Selena's eyes, and she smirked slightly. "I've been working with you since I started in this industry and thought we were close. If you've found a better partner, just tell me so I can make other plans. Mr. Montague is pressing me."

Reid did want Raymond's order, but even if he provided the renovation team now, Selena would be the biggest winner. It wouldn't benefit their renovation company much; people would just think Selena's design was top-notch.

In past collaborations, employers always praised Selena for being diligent and personally visiting construction sites. The orders she gave the renovation team were a mere footnote compared to the significant boost she received for her own image

But teaming up with T. Rowe Group was a whole different ball game. They were ready to sell him materials at cost, which meant he could offer clients lower quotes. This would definitely bring in a flood of orders from regular folks, who weren't exactly rolling in dough.

Reid kept his smile plastered on. "Penny, I really have to rush for my business trip now. Like I said, let's talk when I get back."

With that, he hopped into his car.

Selena stood there, having seen this coming. The moment she wasn't allowed upstairs, she figured Reid had found a new partner.

But why would Reid ditch her just because of a new deal?

Renovating Raymond's house would also boost the company's rep, right?

What kind of perks was Reid's new partner offering?

She didn't have time to dwell on it and started calling other renovation companies, but they all turned her down flat.

One company had initially agreed but quickly backed out when they heard her name.

It was clear someone was gunning for her.

Selena immediately thought of Caterlington.

With Kross in prison, Caterlington was now running the show at T. Rowe Group.

T. Rowe Group was the biggest renovation materials company in the country; otherwise, Kross wouldn't have been so tight with the school.

If Caterlington was behind this, then any reputable renovation team would likely steer clear of her.

At this rate, Raymond's order would definitely be delayed.

She raised her hand to rub her temples.

Just then, Caterlington called. "Penny, having some trouble lately? Need my help?"

Selena found it amusing, a hint of sarcasm in her eyes.

"Mr. Walsh, your timing is perfect. Makes me wonder if you orchestrated all this," she said.

Caterlington chuckled, his eyes full of determination. "Yep, I set it up. But Penny, if you have dinner with me, I can hook you up with a better construction team. Don't worry, you can record the whole thing. If I step out of line, you can call the cops, just like last time."

As he mentioned calling the cops, he lightly pressed his tongue against his cheek.

Selena was an interesting woman, strong and defiant.

With her remarkable skills and that beautiful face, she had definitely caught his eye. Otherwise, he wouldn't go to such lengths to set all this up.
