"Mr. Montague, you saved my family's lives and gave us years of peace. This is entirely my choice," she said, a quiet resignation in her eyes.
Her greatest regret remained unspoken—Raymond's indifference to her feelings.
She had undergone surgery to resemble Selena so perfectly that with makeup, few could tell them apart.
How desperately she wished to replace Selena at his side, though she knew such aspirations were futile. She was merely a stand-in, and her impulsive confrontation with Selena had been her life's boldest act.
Her family owed Raymond their lives, and she would complete this mission without hesitation.
Raymond placed a necklace in her palm. "There's poison inside," he explained simply.

Raymond stiffened, surprised by her words, then nodded slowly.
00 rose and fastened the necklace around her throat, fingers lingering on the pendant. Despite its deadly contents, it was the first such gift she'd ever received. Without meeting his eyes again, she caressed the necklace and departed.
Raymond had always been slow to recognize emotional currents. His feelings for Selena had only emerged after prolonged tension between them, when he finally realized what he'd mistaken for mere physical attraction was something deeper.

With 00 headed to infiltrate the research facility, Raymond contacted his associates back home.
This operation needed to remain hidden from international attention to avoid alerting their targets.
The map he'd received highlighted two vulnerable points—their best chance for a breakthrough.
He immediately reached out to Lawrence, Walter, and Clifton. Clifton expressed keen interest in the research facility and committed to coming personally. Walter offered manpower but would stay behind, while Lawrence planned to accompany Clifton.
Raymond felt relief wash over him—with each bringing four operatives, they'd have around twenty people, plus whatever protective equipment they could muster.
Lawrence was surprised Raymond had found a way in so quickly. He removed his convenience store work cap and arranged to meet with Clifton.
Before departing, he called Richard, instructing him to handle the aftermath in Vistalia without involving himself in Vesperian affairs.
"Understood, I'll take care of everything," Richard replied, unaware that Selena had overheard their conversation.
Selena immediately deduced that Raymond had made a breakthrough. Determined to join him but knowing Lawrence would refuse to take her, she slipped away to catch a flight to Arcturus alone.
Richard only discovered her absence after she'd gone, finding her message: [Richard, I've gone to find Raymond.]
Panic seized him. He rushed to book a flight only to learn that due to the disease outbreak in Arcturus, all flights had been canceled for the next month—Selena had caught the last one.
Richard immediately relayed this information to Lawrence.
"You let her slip away?" Lawrence's voice turned glacial.
Richard withered under his intensity, staring at his own fidgeting fingers. "I didn't even notice when she left," he admitted, having feared Lawrence since childhood, especially after making mistakes.
Lawrence massaged his temples and turned to Clifton. "When can we take off?"
With commercial flights canceled, they needed clearance for a private jet.
Clifton leaned back, his slightly overgrown hair shadowing his eyes. "Not until three in the morning. The international situation is too volatile—several groups are watching both the research facility and me."
Lawrence inhaled deeply. "Contact Raymond. Tell him Selena's headed there alone."
