Chapter 17
Selena was soaked, her long hair dripping, and her bare feet hitting the floor, her ankles all tense.
Her toes were round, nails perfectly trimmed. She was so nervous her toes curled up on their own.
Raymond shot her a look, shut his laptop, and sneered, "Honey? So, you're done hiding your intentions, huh?"
Selena noticed Raymond's stare, looked down, and realized her underwear was practically on display under the light.
Her already pale face turned beet red, and she bolted back to the bathroom in a panic.
Raymond, not interested in Selena's shy act anymore, grabbed his laptop and documents, ready to leave. A photo slipped out and floated to the floor.
Before he could grab it, the bathroom door creaked open again.
With no clothes to change into, Selena wrapped herself in a towel, her wet hair tied up, showing her whole face. She was way more restrained now.
"Mr. Montague, I'm really sorry about what happened," she said, head down, pulling out a card. "I'll book you a new room and I will offer you compensation for the inconvenience and emotional distress you have experienced."
Raymond had saved her from Joseph, and this was how she repaid him?
Raymond repeated, "Emotional distress compensation?"
Selena clutched the towel, her anxiety making her grip it so tight it wrinkled.
Maybe there was still some drug in her system.
She looked up at Raymond, their eyes met, and everything she had planned to say vanished.
Flashes of her clinging to Raymond and kissing him filled her mind, making her feel deeply ashamed.
The only relief was that Raymond didn't seem to know who she was yet.
"Do you think I need money? Or are you just trying to get my attention?" Raymond looked her over. "What makes you think I'd be interested in you?"
Earlier at the stadium, she had the nerve to tell Joseph she was Raymond's wife, and now she was acting like she couldn't wait to get away. Her acting was terrible.
Raymond didn't want to stay in the room any longer.
He bent down to pick up the photos, but the last one was by Selena's feet.
Selena stepped back and helped pick it up.
Just as she was about to hand it over, she saw the photo and a look of surprise crossed her face.
Wasn't this the villa she had designed?
A bit surprised, she held onto the photo and didn't immediately give it to Raymond.
Raymond saw her holding the photo, lost in thought, and frowned.
Catching the coldness in Raymond's eyes, Selena snapped back to reality and handed over the photo. "I understand if you're not interested in me, but tonight's incident was my fault. If possible, I hope to make it up to you in some other way."
Selena had never thought of having any relationship with Raymond, so his harsh words didn't hurt her much, just made her feel awkward.
Her tense nerves relaxed a bit, and she regained her composure.
Raymond gave her a cold look, took the photo from her hand, and his face showed no extra emotion.
He turned to leave but heard her speak, "Did Mr. Ashford give you these photos?"
Raymond didn't expect that even now, Selena was still trying to keep him.
He couldn't help but chuckle, a faint mockery in his eyes. "Don't tell me you're friends with this designer and want to introduce them to me."
