Chapter 94 Selena Is Indeed Not As Sensible As Alice.

James had this dream about Barbara, his ex-wife and Selena's mom, and woke up feeling all kinds of guilty.

Probably 'cause Barbara's death anniversary just passed, he had that dream. Right now, he felt super sorry for Selena.

Raymond was a great guy, but if Selena didn't like him, it would just hurt her.

Honestly, Selena had never really given him any trouble growing up.

James now felt like there was this growing distance between him and Selena.

Beatrice's eyes flashed with anger. James' heart softened with each passing year. Back in the day, when she nudged James a bit, he'd usually go along.

But now, James was in a fragile state; with Barbara's death anniversary just passed, he might be overthinking things.

Beatrice had never won against Barbara before, and she definitely wasn't about to let Selena win now.

Beatrice said, "Honey, don't overthink it. You've been good enough to Selena. It's mostly her bad attitude. Look at how Mrs. Montague humiliated us. If Selena had tried a bit harder, Mrs. Montague wouldn't have disrespected us so much."

James thought of Catherine and immediately covered his mouth as a cough started to escape.

What Catherine said was pretty outrageous, but since Selena and Raymond got married for that three hundred million dollar financing, James couldn't really say much.

Catherine looked down on the Fair family and Selena, which is why she spoke so harshly.

Beatrice continued, "Honey, look at Alice. She really cares about you. If she wasn't really unwell, she would've come to see you by now. I didn't even dare to tell her about your hospitalization. Nick just called too, saying you should rest more and not worry about the company. You've already had someone teach him, and he'll learn more."

James's face looked a lot better. Alice and Nick were definitely more sensible than Selena. Selena was too strong-willed and never relied on him, making him feel insignificant a lot of times.

"Selena is indeed not as sensible as Alice." As soon as Raymond finished speaking, footsteps were heard at the door. Selena had just come back and happened to hear that.

James felt a sudden awkwardness, his expression changing.

Selena lowered her eyelashes and placed the nutritious meal she brought on the cabinet beside him.

Selena said, "Dad, are you hungry? Have something to eat first."

James opened his mouth, wanting to explain, but found he had no way to do so, so he just sighed, "Okay."

After taking a bite of oatmeal porridge, he asked, "When can I be discharged?"

Selena had already talked to the doctor, making sure they didn't tell anyone about James's condition except her. Since they weren't planning on surgery now, it was better to let him spend his last days peacefully.

Selena said, "The doctor suggests you rest in the hospital for half a month."

James responded, "Half a month? No way. The Fair Group has a ton of stuff waiting for me, and you know, we're about to enter the second round of financing. We can't afford any problems now."

Selena felt a wave of frustration. If he had come to the hospital when he first felt unwell, it wouldn't have progressed to late-stage liver cancer.

Selena said, "Dad, what's more important, your health or the company?"

James sensed something was off with Selena's mood and didn't push further, feeling somewhat touched.

Selena still cared about him.

James nodded. "Alright, I'll switch all meetings to video conferences and rest well in the hospital for this half month."

Beatrice saw the rare warmth between Selena and James and couldn't help but feel resentful, wanting to make a sarcastic remark, "Can't you see who caused James's illness? If you had kept Raymond happy, would Mrs. Montague have said those things about us?"

Selena didn't want to argue with Beatrice in front of James, as it would only upset him.

Selena said, "Dad, everything's okay. Beatrice will stay with you. Don't leave the hospital for this half month. I'll have the doctor contact me at any time."

Beatrice, feeling ignored, was furious and was about to curse when James said, "Enough, don't always cause trouble."

This made Beatrice's face stiffen, realizing that if she continued to be unreasonable, she would annoy James, so she quieted down.

James looked at Selena, his tone soft, "I'm fine. I'll stay in the hospital for this half month. Selena, I haven't talked to you in a long time. I've really neglected you these past two years. If you have time, come see me, okay?"

Selena felt her eyes redden, fearing that if she stayed any longer, she would reveal her emotions.

If James were still healthy, she could let herself argue with him and resent him. But he only had a year left to live.

Selena nodded. "Okay, I promise."

After saying this, Selena left.

When she got downstairs, she felt cold all over. Even though it was summer, the chill seemed to penetrate her bones.

Meanwhile, at the Montague Villa, everyone was gathered and had just finished dinner.

Raymond got up to leave, and William couldn't help but pull him aside to advise him, "Keep my words in mind. Take a gift to see James this week."
