Chapter 168 Pushing It

When Raymond got William's call, he couldn't help but smirk. "Got it. I'll swing by after I wrap up my stuff," he said, almost whispering.

He'd already helped the Fair Family secure their second round of financing and signed a deal with Selena. They should've been laying low for a bit.

Now they wanted him to show up in person? Seriously, the Fair Family was pushing it.

Raymond figured he'd been more than fair with them. He could've left Silver Bay City with a divorce agreement in hand, but he didn't.

He thought Selena was in the same boat as him, both of them stuck in a situation they didn't want.

But when he met Selena, he saw that look in her eyes—full of ambition and admiration. It was a bit much for him.

Raymond even suspected their marriage was partly her doing, with her nudging William along.

William listened to her a lot and genuinely cared for her. Plus, she had saved his life. If she even hinted at wanting to marry Raymond, William would make it happen.

But the way it all went down was too heavy-handed, leading straight to their marriage.

Raymond felt a rare sense of annoyance. He'd been cruising in the international finance world and took over the Montague Group without a hitch, yet he still had to deal with this twisted relationship with Selena.

The Fair Family, riding on William's support, was getting way too bold.

After agreeing with William, Raymond hung up.

The business partner across from him kept talking, sneaking glances at Raymond's face. Seeing his expression turn cold, the partner nervously asked, "Mr. Montague, did I say something wrong?"

Raymond chuckled lightly. "I've reviewed the proposal. It's spot on."

The partner let out a sigh of relief and moved on to the next topic.

Meanwhile, Selena had no plans to show up either. Sure, she was worried about James's health, but she needed to make it clear that the Fair Family couldn't always lean on Raymond.

Raymond had already cut into the Fair Family's business. If they pushed him too far, he might even drive them to bankruptcy.

Now that Raymond had helped them with the second round of financing, they should back off and stop bothering him.

Selena skipping dinner tonight was also a message to James. Hopefully, he'd think twice before making such requests in the future.

But Selena didn't expect James to call William, which only made her look worse in Raymond's eyes.

She pulled out her laptop and started organizing all the renovation materials she needed. Even though Raymond was loaded, she still wanted to save him some cash as a way to repay him.

She made sure all the materials were top-notch and tried to get them at base price straight from the source factories.

In the interior design world, most people made a killing on the materials, but Selena had always just taken the design fee in her three years in the biz. She didn't usually get materials directly from the source for her other clients.

By the time she finished organizing everything, it was already seven in the evening.

Her phone was on silent, so she missed a bunch of calls from James.

Selena used her connections to get the phone numbers of a few source factories. When she saw the last one, she paused for a moment.

This source factory was in Ridgefield.

Ridgefield was a small town, but one factory there was so popular it basically kept the whole place afloat.

The sandalwood flooring from there was the most expensive on the market, available in both imported and domestic options. The growth conditions for this wood were super specific, and it used to be imported. But Ridgefield, tucked away in the mountains, had this resource.

In recent years, national policies had restricted the sale of this wood flooring.

The factory could only start logging once they hit their annual planting target for these trees.

It was so in demand that the wood flooring was pre-ordered three years in advance.

But Selena still wanted to try her luck in Ridgefield this time.

The wood flooring wouldn't be needed for a while, so she had to sort out the other materials first.

After contacting the heads of those factories one by one, Selena was so wiped out that she slumped over her desk, not wanting to move.

She reviewed the materials she had recently organized and realized one of the documents was at Ashbourne Manor.

Not wanting to bother Fiona, she forced herself to drive out.

Unexpectedly, she ran into Jacob at the corner of the street, strolling with a woman in his arms.

Selena was so mad her scalp tingled. She parked the car and got out, shouting, "Jacob!"

Jacob stiffened. He almost bolted but held back, remembering the woman beside him. "Selena, what are you doing here?"
