Chapter 1627 Let's Take It Back and Observe Together

He felt his chest tighten with rage, and the metallic taste of blood filled his mouth.

Thankfully, the gun was still in his hand.

He tossed it straight to Nina. "Catch!"

Nina had already traded hundreds of blows with Number 8. She grabbed the gun and fired a shot into Number 8's gut.

Number 8 was about to move again when his eyes landed on her wrist.

A red string with a gemstone bead was tied around it.

His chaotic thoughts cleared instantly. He opened his mouth, and the strength he had been holding onto vanished. He collapsed to the ground.

Nina let out a sigh of relief and was about to check on Selena when she noticed the gemstone bead around the boy's neck.

She froze, stunned.

The gun slipped from her hand, and she dropped to her knees, pulling open his collar.

The gemstone bead hung around his neck. With trembling hands, she brought it closer and saw the inscription inside.

She hugged Number 8 tightly, unable to utter a single word, just holding him close.

Number 8 had already passed out, blood streaming down his forehead.

Richard was startled by the sound and coughed up more blood. "What happened?"

Selena raised an eyebrow, realizing this might be the brother Nina had been searching for, but she had just shot him.

Luckily, the bullet hadn't hit his heart, or she would have taken her own life by now.

The helicopter quickly evacuated the injured.

Selena felt a strong gaze on her. She looked at Calla, a woman she didn't recognize, but whose eyes were filled with a complex mix of relief, joy, pain, and conflict.

Clifton sat nearby, gasping for breath, feeling increasingly dizzy.

With his last bit of strength, he said to Richard, "This is the top doctor from the research base. She can help find a cure for your father. Take her back to Vistalia."

Richard's eyes lit up, and he nodded slowly.

More helicopters arrived to transport the injured.

However, the girl next to Lawrence was in a more complicated situation. A piece of wood had pierced her shoulder, and any movement caused a lot of bleeding.

But she seemed oblivious to the pain, staring intently at Lawrence. She took his bloodied hand and began to lick it.

Richard's eyes widened, and he coughed violently, almost hacking up a lung. "Lawrence, who is this?"

She looked like she wasn't even an adult yet.

Lawrence quickly pulled his hand back, remembering the string of numbers recorded in the experiment log.

Mating failed.

Mating failed.

It was because the girl didn't know what to do next. She would just kiss him, making him uncomfortable all over.

And he was tied up, unable to act on his own.

His upbringing prevented him from guiding her, so he endured her teasing, holding back.

"This is... an experimental subject from the research base. We should take her back for observation."

Richard's gaze shifted between the girl and Lawrence before he waved for the helicopter to come and pick them up.

Everyone was settled, except for Raymond, who was still missing.

Eventually, Ralph's people arrived. Lawrence and Clifton handed over the documents they had brought out.

These documents were taken at the last moment with Calla's help. If Raymond hadn't been fighting Number 8, they wouldn't have gotten them.

Ralph took the documents and, upon hearing that Raymond was still missing, left his people to help with the search.

But after three days, there was still no sign of Raymond.

Selena went from being calm to increasingly anxious.

Especially as the bodies of researchers were brought out one by one. Each time, she had to check if it was Raymond.

Only when it wasn't could she breathe a sigh of relief.
