Chapter 40
Eric felt like he might've just stumbled onto some hidden truths.
Back at the Montague Group, when he faced Raymond, Eric handed over the contract without hesitation. "Mr. Montague, Ms. Fair has already signed the contract."
Raymond glanced at the signed document, his eyes landing on the name, Selena Fair.
He flipped through it, frowning. "She didn't make any demands?"
Eric shook his head, wanting to say that Selena not only didn't make any demands but also agreed unusually quickly.
A cold smile crept across Raymond's face. Agreeing to solve the Fair family's second round of financing, agreeing to delay the divorce—she signed pretty readily. When they scheduled a meeting at noon, she probably thought it was to discuss the divorce, so she deliberately didn't show up.
Raymond set the contract aside indifferently, not wanting to dig deeper into the matter with Selena. "Got it."
Eric had a gut feeling that Raymond might be misunderstanding something. He hesitated to speak but ultimately decided to back off slowly.
Anyway, Raymond and Selena were about to divorce, so it probably didn't matter if he wasn't aware.
Selena felt an unprecedented sense of relief after signing.
The second round of financing was sorted, the divorce was settled, and she no longer had to waste energy dealing with the Montague family. She just needed to play along. The most important thing now was Raymond's design order.
This time, Raymond had helped her out a bit, so she naturally had to be more dedicated.
It seemed she could schedule a meeting with the staff tomorrow, first to measure the house, and then provide a proposal and quote.
Selena breathed a sigh of relief. Just as she was about to lie down after washing up, Shelley sent her a location.
Shelley texted: [Selena, I think I saw Alice here.]
'Sky Gallery? Isn't that a bar? With Alice's condition, how could she be out drinking?' Selena thought.
Selena messaged: [Are you sure you didn't see wrong?]
Shelley replied: [It's her, but she disappeared when I turned around. Do you want to come over?]
Selena changed clothes and then drove out.
Upon arriving at Sky Gallery, Selena flashed her membership card.
This place was known as a playground for the wealthy, with membership cards starting at two million dollars each.
Several clients she had interacted with liked to come here, so she had to get a membership card for business purposes.
Once inside, Selena glanced around.
A group of men and women were chatting at the bar, and the booths in the corners were also full.
Shelley waved at her and pointed to the innermost hallway. "I just saw her there for a moment. Should we split up to look?"
Selena nodded, and they started searching in different directions.
Sky Gallery was huge and had several floors. As Selena reached the second floor, she heard Alice's familiar voice. "I'm really not a hostess, I'm just here to find someone."
"Find someone? Tell me who you're looking for. I know everyone in this bar. Make me happy, and I'll help you find them," Joseph said.
"No, let go of me!" Alice shouted.
Selena frowned, turned the corner, and saw that the person grabbing Alice was Joseph.
Alice looked like she was about to cry. When she saw Selena, her eyes widened as she cautiously called out, "Selena, why are you here?"
Joseph looked up, glanced at Selena, raised an eyebrow, and then sneered, "Is she your sister?"
Joseph had a few bodyguards with him.
Joseph slightly raised his chin, and the bodyguards walked over to Alice, pushing her aside.
"Mr. Anderson, causing trouble at Sky Gallery isn't a good idea, is it?" Selena reminded.
Selena had been here before and knew that the owner of Sky Gallery was very powerful. No one dared to cause trouble here. Even as the heir to Citibank, Joseph should be cautious.
Joseph looked her up and down, feeling more and more heated. "Last time you got away, but this time I won't let you go."
With Alice in his hands, Selena naturally didn't dare to act rashly and calmly asked, "What do you want to do?"
Joseph smiled wryly as he looked at his bodyguards. "Take her outside and wait for me in the car."
Alice was startled, immediately recognizing that Joseph was not a good person. With a trembling voice, she called out, "Selena."
Selena's expression turned cold as she heard Joseph say again, "Don't worry, I won't do anything to her. After all, you and Raymond have slept together."
Alice, who was being held, stiffened, a look of disbelief crossing her eyes, and then she bit her lip hard.
Neither Joseph nor Selena noticed.
Although Joseph was angry that Selena had deceived him with the fake identity of Raymond's wife, she had at least successfully slept with Raymond.
That night, being humiliated by Raymond made Joseph feel very embarrassed. Coincidentally, wasn't Raymond upstairs playing poker with his friends tonight?
Joseph planned to take Selena upstairs to show Raymond that after sleeping with Raymond, she came to him, which would be a way to regain some face.
