Chapter 1485 The Seed Has Been Sown

Selena took a deep breath, trying to steady herself, and saw Mario walk in from outside. She quickly closed her eyes to avoid making eye contact with him.

Mario knew she wasn't asleep. He just went into the bathroom to wash the blood off the back of his hand.

Selena had been pretending to sleep, but she was so tired that she eventually drifted off for real.

Meanwhile, Raymond was still wearing that black robe, standing in front of the cage where Eldon was held.

An old man sat at the front of the cage—Eldon's grandfather, Yosef Soto. Yosef, dressed in black casual clothes, looked at Eldon with a stern expression. Eldon knelt inside the cage, silent.

The man Eldon had previously antagonized was now gloating, stirring up trouble in front of Yosef.

"Grandpa, if we don't get that token back soon, I'm worried Eldon will hand it over to someone else."

As soon as he finished speaking, Yosef's sharp gaze turned to Eldon.

"Where's the token?"

Eldon looked up, a smile on his face that didn't reach his eyes.

"Grandpa, as long as I haven't officially stepped down from my position, I don't have to tell anyone where the token is."

Unless he committed a serious mistake. But what mistake had he made? He had merely escaped from the Soto Villa with the token, without harming any other members of the Soto family. That hardly counted as a serious mistake for now.

Yosef's face darkened as he looked at Raymond, who was standing nearby. The character Raymond was impersonating was always enigmatic and spoke very little, so he didn't need to say much.

He hadn't gone to find Selena because this black-robed man was supposed to deliver a batch of goods to the Soto family within two days, and today was the delivery day. Raymond hadn't been able to get the location of the goods from the man's mouth, but since Yosef was here, he would definitely ask.

The black-robed man had never broken a promise before, so Raymond needed to come up with a perfect excuse.

"Sir, where are the medicines this time?" Yosef asked, clearly more concerned about the batch of medicine than Eldon.

Raymond nodded slightly, his tone cold, "They were hijacked on the way to see Mr. Eldon Soto. It didn't seem like it was done by any of the major families."

If he claimed it was done by another family, it would definitely raise suspicion. After all, the black-robed man held a high status among the major families. Besides the person secretly controlling the major families, the black-robed man was the only one who could produce such a large quantity of medicine. The major families had no reason to hijack his goods.

But recently, the Soto family had been under attack, and it was clear these attacks weren't from people on the island but from an external force. Now, Raymond attributed the missing batch of medicine to this external force, leaving Yosef with no clear direction to investigate.

Yosef nodded slightly, his face full of concern.

"The Soto family has also been under attack recently. It must be outsiders who have infiltrated. I'll discuss this with others. It's good that you weren't hurt, sir."

Raymond didn't speak, just bowed slightly in response.

Yosef stood up, his tone icy, "Eldon, you're coming back to inner island with me."

Eldon lowered his head, his voice hoarse, "Going back for what? To get married?"

"You don't have the right to refuse. Either you hand over the token, or if you remain stubborn, the Soto family will need a new leader."

Eldon had long known he would be abandoned, but witnessing it so cleanly and decisively still felt like a knife to the heart. For years, he had worked tirelessly for the Soto family, always striving to improve everyone's lives. But in Yosef's eyes, everything he did was taken for granted.

Now, just because his sexual orientation was different from the norm, he was suddenly treated like a criminal. Why? His orientation hadn't hurt anyone, so why couldn't society accept it?

When Raymond mentioned that the world outside was vast, millions of times larger than Mystic Prison, and that many countries supported marriage for people like him, a new world opened up in his mind. He had lived in Mystic Prison all his life, unaware of what the world outside, millions of times larger, was like.

But the seed had already been planted. He had always been a gambler.

"Grandpa, give me a few more hours to think about it."

Yosef snorted coldly and left without another word.
