Chapter 48

"Mr. Reed?" Selena called out, looking pretty confused.

Alex glanced up and grinned, "Just give back the original amount."

"Keep it safe. In our line of work, we always keep our promises," Selena replied.

A newbie at the casino, winning two billion dollars in one night, and a woman at that—trouble was bound to find Selena before she even left the place.

The best move right now was to pass the trouble along.

The promise she made to Alex was the perfect excuse.

Alex's face got all complicated. Why was Selena giving up ten billion dollars?

Even if she took on Raymond's project, the design fee would only be in the tens of millions. She could work her whole life and never make that kind of money.

Was she trying to get on Raymond's good side?

Alex didn't argue and took the money, then patted Raymond on the shoulder. "You're a married man. Shouldn't you be heading home by now?"

Emphasizing the "married" part, Alex glanced at Selena, who had already sat back down. He figured she should've heard that.

Raymond, who had been looking down, frowned, confused by Alex's words.

Everyone knew Raymond's marriage was just for show, and Alex should know that better than anyone.

Alex's expression was a mix of emotions. If Selena wasn't after money, then she must really like Raymond.

Alex continued, "Raymond, can't you see? She likes you."

Raymond's hand paused with the golden blue chip, his eyelashes fluttered, and he pursed his lips, "What makes you say that?"

Alex pointed at the chip. "Ten billion dollars."

To them, ten billion was nothing, but to regular folks, it was a fortune they'd never see in a lifetime.

Selena had pushed it over so casually. If it wasn't to get on Raymond's good side, Alex couldn't think of another reason.

"She's married. I heard she's really in love with her husband." Raymond's tone was indifferent, but as soon as he said it, he felt the atmosphere shift.

Raymond turned his head and saw Alex's subtle look, like he was saying, 'You've even checked on that?'

"Don't overthink it. I've just talked to her a few times." Raymond felt a bit strange saying that.

After all, Raymond and Selena had a one-night stand, which had become an unspoken secret between them.

"Raymond, I think she's serious about you. Her marriage must be fake. Look, she's not even wearing a wedding ring. If she were really in love with her husband, she'd definitely be wearing it."

"Maybe she just didn't wear it today."

"When she pushed the chip over, I glanced at her fingers. No ring marks." Alex rambled.

Wearing a ring for a long time leaves a mark, but Selena had none.

Alex was currently the most valuable screenwriter, known for his wild imagination.

"She probably told you she was married just to slow things down, then plan a full-on pursuit to win you over. After all, she's your designer, and you'll be seeing each other a lot," Alex continued.

Raymond stayed quiet. For a moment, he thought Alex was just talking nonsense.

But when he looked up at Selena, he caught her looking at him.

Selena was indeed looking at Raymond because it was his turn to speak, but Raymond and Alex were deep in conversation, and no one knew what they were talking about.

Alex was also very engrossed. Despite his initial bad impression of Selena, he thought she was pretty good. Raymond's choice of her as a designer spoke volumes about her talent.

Her sincerity was evident. If she truly loved Raymond, it would only lead to heartache, as he could never reciprocate her feelings.

"Raymond, if you're not into her, you need to let her know sooner rather than later," Alex said.

Raymond pursed his lips, looked away, and furrowed his brow even more, more troubled than if he had lost billions.

So, did she like him?
