Chapter 351 I Was Drunk Last Night
Selena could tell from his voice that Raymond was totally wasted. Why else would he ask such a weird question?
Her brain kicked into overdrive.
"No, it's just that it's the middle of the night. If my husband finds out you brought me a dog, I won't be able to explain it away."
Raymond went silent as soon as she finished talking.
Even through the phone, Selena could feel the tension.
Just as she was about to say something else, Raymond hung up on her.
Selena was stunned, thinking he might've hung up by accident. She called back, but he didn't pick up.
After trying a couple more times with no luck, she realized he was ignoring her on purpose.
She frowned. Did she say something wrong?
In his mind, she was always a married woman.
Raymond saw her call twice and then stop. He sneered and looked at Max, who was trying to climb onto the sofa. "In her heart, you're nothing special, either."
Max didn't get it and tried to get closer, but Raymond had already gone upstairs.
Before Raymond came back to the country, Max used to sleep on the sofa.
The whole Ashbourne Manor was its playground, so when Raymond ignored it and went upstair, Max just lay down on the sofa.
Raymond, still fuming, didn't even notice the computer and notebook on the coffee table.
Back in his bathroom, he stood under the shower, but even as the water ran down his chest, he still felt irritated.
Maybe it was the booze, but he really wanted to get rid of Max.
Selena's mind was racing with thoughts about her cheating husband.
She really needed to see an eye doctor.
After two failed attempts, Selena didn't dare call again, fearing Raymond would get mad.
Raymond hadn't questioned her identity yet, so it seemed he hadn't noticed the computer on the coffee table.
After all, he never cared about anything inside Ashbourne Manor.
She sent a message to Fiona.
Selena: [Fiona, could you please put the computer and notebook on the coffee table in my room?]
Fiona, like the other servants in Ashbourne Manor, was up by five.
Raymond woke up at six, so Fiona would definitely be in the living room earlier.
Selena breathed a sigh of relief but felt uneasy thinking about Max.
At 5:30 AM, Fiona called.
Selena, who hadn't slept all night, felt a glimmer of hope.
"Did Mr. Montague come back last night? But Max seems to be sleeping on the sofa." Fiona's heart was racing, unsure if Raymond had encountered Max.
Selena took a deep breath and asked, "Did you put away my computer and notebook?"
"They're already in your room."
"Good, Fiona, from now on, just pretend you don't know Max. Act like it's a stray dog that wandered into Ashbourne Manor. Remember, never admit it's been kept here."
Otherwise, everything would be exposed.
Fiona, siding with Selena, said over the phone, "Okay."
Hearing that Raymond had already seen Max, she was even more anxious. "Are you sure this is okay?"
What if Raymond held her accountable because of Max?
"Fiona, as long as you don't admit Ashbourne Manor ever had a dog, Raymond won't blame you. He's actually quite nice."
Fiona could only hang up the phone half-believing.
When Raymond came downstairs in his suit, breakfast was already on the dining table.
Max was circling in the living room.
Seeing it, Raymond frowned slightly. "Find something for him to eat; he must be hungry."
Remembering Selena's words, Fiona started to act. "I don't know whose dog this is. I was planning to throw him out since you're allergic to dog hair."
Raymond, sitting at the dining table, said indifferently, "Don't throw him out yet. Keep it for a few days. And have someone buy some dog food."
Seeing that he wasn't blaming her and even asked her to buy dog food, Fiona's eyes lit up.
Selena was right.
"Okay. How long do you plan to keep it? It must have an owner, right?"
"We'll see."
Raymond leisurely finished his breakfast and went straight to the Montague Group.
At the entrance of the Montague Group, he encountered Selena, who had been waiting there.
Selena looked like she hadn't slept all night, with dark circles under her eyes. "Raymond, about Max."
Raymond walked past her, speaking indifferently, "I was drunk last night and made a mistake. Max wasn't with me."
He was a liar.
