Chapter 1516 A Sweetness Never Felt Before

Whoever possessed the Jellyfish Seal would claim leadership of BK. This was the very artifact that BK's ten lieutenants had been desperately hunting for, and he never imagined Emilio would actually manage to acquire it.

The tentacles felt smooth and warm beneath his fingers—this was genuine. After disappearing for so many years, the Jellyfish Seal had finally resurfaced.

The man accepted it with a mocking tone. "Since he's so eager to face punishment, let him have his way."

If he hadn't seen potential in Emilio all those years ago and decided to pluck him from that pack of feral orphans tearing each other apart, the boy would have been dead long ago.

Emilio had been obedient throughout the years, managing Mystic Prison with remarkable efficiency. Despite his youth, he possessed the cold ruthlessness that made him the perfect heir apparent.

But this chosen successor had nearly destroyed Mystic Prison entirely. Even now, explosions continued to rock the island, and no one could guarantee the place would still exist come morning. This island was exactly what those people wanted, and when they came for Emilio, his suffering would know no bounds. Moreover, his attack on BK operatives was already a capital offense.

"But sir, if he continues enduring torture, he might very well—"

"That's his choice to make. I have plenty of backup heirs—he's hardly irreplaceable."

The words carried a bone-chilling indifference. Even a stray dog, after years of care, would earn some affection. Yet his attitude toward Emilio suggested the young man was nothing more than a stranger.

The subordinate fell silent and departed to notify the torture chamber. A fresh round of torment commenced, lasting three brutal hours. When it ended, Emilio's body was a canvas of wounds—not an inch of unmarked flesh remained.

Unable to stand, he dragged himself toward the exit, managing only a few feet before collapsing in exhaustion. The pain had become so overwhelming that numbness had set in, stripping away his senses one by one.

In his delirium, his fingers found something small and hard—shaped remarkably like the candy Selena had offered him that day. The candy he'd never eaten, a decision that haunted him endlessly.

When he'd forced Selena to reveal the Jellyfish Seal's location, he could have easily disclosed his true identity. Instead, he'd orchestrated his cover's demise—death by fire, but at least Selena's suspicions remained unroused.

In her heart, Emilio remained that earnest young man struggling against fate, not the calculating mastermind who had deceived her at every turn. Her memory preserved a clean version of Emilio, the only sanctuary left in his corrupted existence.

Now, clutching this candy-shaped object, he summoned his remaining strength to place it in his mouth, only to discover it wasn't candy at all—just a small stone. The rock felt harsh against his tongue, carrying the earthy taste of soil, yet somehow he managed to extract a trace of sweetness from it. This was the purest sweetness he'd ever experienced in his entire life.

It was enough. Let that untainted version of Emilio live forever in Selena's memory.

The guards noticed him lying motionless and checked for breath. "He's dead."

"Drag him out and inform the boss—time to select from the backup candidates." Emilio's death warranted no more consideration than disposing of refuse.

Meanwhile, by the shore where Selena waited for Raymond's return, a sudden tightness gripped her chest. She realized with a start that she'd left Emilio's remains behind in Mystic Prison. Frowning, she gazed across the turbulent waters, her thoughts turning to Raymond, who had vanished hours ago. With seas this violent, what had become of him?

Dawn was breaking as she boarded the vessel to question the others. "Any word?"

Their grave expressions and slow headshakes told her everything she needed to know.
