Chapter 201 A Sense of Self-Reproach

Raymond glanced around, grabbed a disposable paper cup, and filled it with water.

Lucas thought Raymond looked out of place with those cheap paper cups.

That hand of his seemed more suited for a wine glass.

The room seemed to split into two zones automatically.

From the moment he walked in, everyone else faded into the background.

The two people in the corner felt it too, a wave of self-consciousness washing over them.

Raymond moved with grace, but he'd never used a paper cup like this before. When he brought it to his lips, it tasted weird.

He frowned a bit and didn't drink. He nodded politely at the two people staring at him, then took the water back to the meeting room.

The guy next to Lucas nudged him, looking surprised.

"Who is that? Such a strong presence. Our CEO doesn't look like that."

Lucas snorted. "Even the CEO sucks up to him. I don't know, never seen him before. Check the financial papers."

They grumbled about their boss for a bit and then got back to work.

When Raymond returned with the paper cup, the room went silent.

The president of Cornerstone Construction jumped up, looking scared.

"Mr. Montague, sorry for the poor hospitality."

He signaled his assistant, who quickly brought a sanitized glass of water to Raymond.

But Raymond didn't drink, just listened to the project discussion.

After it ended, everyone shook hands.

Raymond led the way out, followed by John, with Cornerstone's top brass trailing behind.

In the car, Raymond stayed quiet.

John, driving, glanced at his boss in the rearview mirror, sensing something was off, but couldn’t quite put his finger on it.

Raymond just looked at the documents on his lap, expressionless, focused on reviewing them.

Back at Rose Garden, Selena had just relaxed when she got a call from a previously canceled business partner, saying the order was back on.

She sighed in relief and rubbed her temples.

Thinking about Raymond's injury, she figured she should give William a heads-up.

She knew William was eager for a great-grandchild, but using family discipline without knowing the full story was hurtful.

She also knew Raymond tolerated the marriage for William's health.

Before 7 PM, Selena was about to call William but got a call from Fiona, saying William had sent a bunch of gifts to Ashbourne Manor again.

Connecting this to Raymond's injury, she realized William was trying to make up for it.

She couldn't help but laugh.

After hanging up with Fiona, she decided not to call William.

In William's mind, the matter was settled. If she brought it up, he'd guess she knew, complicating things.

If she wanted to reveal her identity, that was fine. But since she chose to keep it hidden, she worried William might call a meeting, blowing her cover and making things worse.

Selena searched for the best scar removal ointment online. Feeling guilty about the scars, she ordered some and had it sent to Raymond's hotel.

When Raymond heard a knock, he thought it was John but found the hotel manager instead.

"Sir, a courier just delivered this."

The package had a label on it. Raymond took the bag and closed the door.

Just as he was about to check the name on the label, there was another knock.

He thought the manager had more to say, but when he opened the door, a delicate-looking woman stood there, looking pitiful.

"Raymond."

Alice's cheeks were flushed, and she wore a thin dress.
