Chapter 1494 Discovered Selena
The servant led Raymond to the restroom while Yosef continued talking with Parker.
As Raymond rounded a corner, he overheard two servants gossiping.
"Who does she think she is? She hasn't eaten all day. Let her starve."
"Mr. Torres's lab is right next to her room. Are they a thing or what?"
"Isn't she just one of those women who easily sleeps with men? Mr. Torres carried her in when she arrived. Shameless."
In this place, women had extremely low status. It was a great honor for a woman to attend a banquet with a man.
The sight of a woman being carried in a man's arms was unimaginable.
These women had been completely tamed and naturally saw Selena as an enemy.
Raymond asked the servant leading him, "Did the Schmidt family have guests?"
"Yes, there was a guest—Mr. Torres. Mr. Schmidt said to treat him as a VIP, and he brought a woman with him."
A man and a woman arrived, and the man's surname was Torres—so they must be Mario and Selena.
When Raymond returned from the restroom, he stood behind Yosef again.
Yosef clearly hadn't convinced Parker, who insisted on waiting another month.
Yosef left in a huff, his face dark.
Raymond was invited to stay. His status made him popular among the four families.
Parker was very polite to him. "Sir, I've had a room prepared for you."
Raymond nodded and followed the servant to the so-called room.
Late at night, when everyone was asleep, he pretended to go for a walk.
He paused by a room with sealed windows.
There were small holes in the window, but it was completely sealed and couldn't be opened.
He glanced inside. The curtains were half-drawn, and someone was clearly lying on the bed.
He stood there for a long time before the person on the bed finally moved.
The first thing Selena did upon waking was rush to the restroom to vomit.
Ever since Mario had given her that unknown drug, her stomach had felt uncomfortable.
The door to the adjacent lab was closed, and the switch was on the other side.
Anyone next door could open the door and enter her room at any time.
After vomiting, Selena felt a gaze on her.
She looked sharply towards the window, seeing a silhouette behind the curtain.
She slowly approached and just as she pulled the curtain slightly open, a voice came from outside, "Sir, what are you doing here?"
Raymond turned and walked away without saying anything.
Selena watched his retreating figure, her brow furrowed.
Raymond had confirmed that the person inside was Selena, but with Mario also at the Schmidt estate, and not knowing Mario's intentions, he had to be extremely cautious.
"Just taking a walk."
The servant didn't suspect anything and remained respectful.
"If you're hungry and want a snack, just let us know."
Raymond nodded and headed back to his room.
As he approached the corner, he encountered Mario.
Mario was accompanied by Parker, and they were still discussing matters late into the night.
Parker was surprised to see Raymond, thinking he would have been asleep by now.
Mario also noticed the man in the black robe and immediately fell silent.
Parker greeted Raymond with a smile. "Sir, still not asleep?"
Raymond spoke in a deliberately lower voice. "Can't sleep."
With that, he nodded and headed to his room.
Mario watched his back, a sharp glint in his eyes.
"Mr. Schmidt, is this the man who deals in pharmaceuticals with the families?"
"Yes, it's always been him."
Mario stood there, deep in thought.
"Mr. Torres, if you can develop the drug you mentioned, the Schmidt family will undoubtedly become the most powerful here. We can provide you with the people you need anytime."
Mario's request for people served two purposes: to show he shared the same view of ordinary people as livestock, and because his future experiments might require them.
