Chapter 147 Men Always Mess Up

Shelley dabbed at the spilled drink on Philip with a tissue, all the while downplaying her own outfit.

"It's just from a small store. The shoes were twenty bucks, the clothes are from little shops too, and the bag was under thirty dollars. That person said over two million dollars, but I think they were just intimidated by my presence." She said it like it was no big deal and gave Philip a peck on the cheek. "Sorry about splashing you earlier, but you gotta promise me, no more hanging out with those women for money. Even if you buy me gifts, I won't take them."

Even though Selena didn't have any special feelings for Philip, she had to admit he was really good-looking. No wonder someone was willing to drop a hundred grand just to have him at their birthday party.

Selena kept her eyes down and stayed quiet, listening to Shelley sweet-talk Philip for a bit before they walked out all lovey-dovey.

As they got to the door, Shelley turned back and winked at Selena.

Selena didn't want to interrupt their moment. She heard Shelley continue, "You know my family's situation, right? I have a younger brother who spends a lot. My mom's counting on me to buy a house for him, but don't worry, I'll convince her not to give that money."

"Shelley, you're so good to me," Philip said.

Selena felt helpless and could barely stand to listen anymore.

She waited until they were far away before slowly following.

Shelley and Philip got into the elevator, but Selena stayed behind.

As she walked past Raymond's room, she saw Alex coming out.

Alex frowned when he saw Selena.

Selena regretted not catching up with Shelley earlier. Now, it would be rude not to say hi to Alex. "Mr. Reed."

Alex looked behind Selena. The elevator was on this side, but she came from the other direction, and he heard noise and crying. Seemed like someone got caught cheating.

Was it her husband?

Alex was always into this kind of drama; it gave him inspiration.

They got into the elevator together, and he smiled. "Men always mess up."

Selena thought Alex had heard the earlier commotion, especially since Lyra had left crying.

"It was just a misunderstanding," Selena said.

Being a screenwriter, Alex was used to seeing couples in the entertainment industry who were only together for show.

A lot of men couldn't keep it together, especially in this line of work, where few stayed true to their original intentions.

They often said it was just a misunderstanding, and they still loved their partner.

Alex thought Selena was different, given how bold she was at the casino. She didn't seem like the type to be submissive in a marriage, but it turned out she was no different.

Alex felt a bit let down. He had originally supported Selena being involved with Raymond, especially since Raymond had indeed had a thing with her.

Others might not know, but Alex knew Raymond was almost obsessively self-disciplined. If Selena didn't truly match his taste, he wouldn't have let himself indulge for a night.

But now, Selena's mindset was still stuck in a failed marriage, clearly not worthy of Raymond.

So Alex just chuckled lightly and kept quiet.

The elevator stopped on the ground floor, and Selena walked out first. She parted ways with Alex in the hotel lobby, sensing a change in his attitude.

He had previously teased her about Raymond, but now he seemed to hope she would distance herself from Raymond.
