Chapter 241 It Seems Like I'm Always the One Being Abandoned
Jacob couldn't believe what he was hearing.
Megan smirked. "Did you forget? You got wasted the first night you came back, and we hooked up. If I'm having a boy, your family’s in big trouble."
Jacob did remember that night and now he was second-guessing everything.
If he divorced Megan, he might never find another wife, and no one would want to have his kids. The Layman family could end with him.
Now that Megan was pregnant, having a kid might at least give his parents some peace.
Selena saw the hesitation on their faces and felt nothing but rage.
"Are you seriously thinking about keeping her around?"
To be blunt, Megan had been caught cheating by Jacob a long time ago. Who knew whose kid she was carrying?
Even though Jacob wasn’t a saint, now that the house was about to be demolished, he had $500,000 in his hands. The future for the three of them could be pretty comfortable. Keeping Megan around might just waste all that money.
Erin and Brian avoided looking at Selena, and she knew what their choice was.
At that moment, Megan put her hands on her hips and started yelling at Selena.
"So, this is why this loser suddenly wants to divorce me. It’s because of you, you bitch! You can’t even handle your own mess, and now you’re sticking your nose in my business. Get out! Get out of here. You’re not welcome!"
Megan grabbed a glass of water and threw it at Selena.
Selena was caught off guard and got drenched.
Brian and Erin didn’t dare to look at her, and Jacob stayed silent.
Selena didn’t get mad. She just picked up her bag and said calmly, "Sorry to bother you."
After all, they were family. She had done so much, only to have her efforts wasted and not appreciated.
Erin knew they had gone too far and quickly chased after her, but Megan shouted angrily, "Anyone who goes after that bitch, I’ll abort the baby tonight!"
The threat was powerful, and everyone stayed put.
Selena walked out of the alley alone, her eyes red and clutching her bag tightly, unable to express the hurt in her heart.
She felt like a walking corpse.
She bought a bouquet late at night and didn’t go back to the hotel to rest. Instead, she went to her mom’s grave.
The cemetery was a two-hour drive away. Selena drove there in silence, using her phone’s light to navigate the uneven path.
When she reached the grave, she finally felt some comfort and placed the flowers on it.
It was raining outside, and she felt cold for the first time.
But maybe because her heart had long been frozen, she hadn’t noticed during the drive.
She couldn’t even remember how many years it had been since her mom passed away. After Beatrice came along, she was the only one who visited the grave each year.
Selena rarely cried. Now, with her coat soaked by the rain and her lips trembling from the cold, she said, "Mom, I really don’t understand why I always mess things up. It seems like I’m always the one being abandoned."
"If you were still here, no one would call me a motherless child."
"Mom, I really miss you."
Selena knelt in front of the grave, crying silently as she spoke.
The last time she visited her mom, Brian was with her so she couldn’t say much. Now, like a vulnerable child who had been wronged, she could only confide in the one she missed.
The wind in the forest howled, and the rain poured down harder.
Selena stood up and wiped her cheeks.
"Silver Bay City still has a lot of things waiting for me. I’ll come back next time, Mom. Take care of yourself."
She found a spot to place the flowers properly, wrapped her already soaked coat around her, and started walking back down.
But when she got to the car, she found it had stalled and wouldn’t start. She couldn’t go back now.
Maybe her mom wanted to keep her here.
Selena curled up, found a comfortable position, and fell asleep.
Meanwhile, at Harmony Garden, Raymond had finished washing up and was wearing a loose robe, handling the last few documents.
Rosalind had been knocking on the door outside.
He frowned and heard her say, "Raymond, I can see you're not feeling it tonight. Do you need me to cheer you up?"
Raymond put down the documents, walked to the door, and opened it.
Rosalind smiled and took his arm. "Are you really feeling down?"
