Chapter 1601 Hating One's Own Incompetence

Ann heard the news about Elara going abroad the next day.

Betty thought Ann might be a bit happy, but there was no change in her expression. She just kept staring out the window and responded after a long while.

She had become thinner, her chin now sharp and small.

At night, she would still unconsciously call out, "Tan."

She didn't dare to think about how Tan had died. Just the thought of it made her loathe her own helplessness.

Betty was worried about her mental state and wanted to get her a therapist.

"Really, there's no need. I'm just in pain. I just need to rest properly."

Ann was sent back home. The dog food was still there, the water bowl was still there, but Tan was gone.

She was afraid she might break down in front of Betty, so she quickly forced a smile. "Betty, you've been delayed too much these past few days. You should go back to filming. Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself at home."

Betty nodded, thought for a moment, and then reminded her, "We've already instructed the property management. Unless they're artists from S.M. Corporation, everyone's identity will be repeatedly checked, and they need the owner's permission to enter. This kind of thing won't happen again."

Ann forced another smile, "I understand."

But her smile looked more painful than tears.

After Betty left, Ann looked around the house and felt that everything was unfamiliar.

Her body wasn't healed yet, and she still needed to rest at home.

She lay on the bed and took out her phone, only to find that Paul seemed to have removed her from his blacklist because she could see his Facebook updates.

He never used to post anything on Facebook. Today, however, he posted something.

The picture was of a small, cream-colored puppy.

Paul: [Who knows how to take care of it?]

This Facebook post was made half an hour ago. Ann and Paul had a few mutual friends, like Alex and some other business partners.

Everyone was advising the comments, except Alex, who was puzzled.

Alex: [When did you start liking these little animals?]

Alex: [This dog looks a bit like hers. Did you buy one just like hers?]

In the past, Ann would have felt sweet and excited, wondering what Paul meant by this post, whether he was hinting at something.

But now, she just felt it was harsh.

Her puppy was gone, and he casually bought one, rubbing salt in her wound.

Without hesitation, she deleted his Facebook and his phone number.

Then she lay on the bed, thinking of Tan, and tears started to flow again.

It felt like she was going to cry out all the water in her body these past few days.

After Paul posted that Facebook update, he kept checking the likes, hoping to see Ann's profile picture.

There were too many likes. He counted several times but didn't see her.

He pulled up her profile page, but felt it would be too abrupt to message her directly.

After hesitating for a while, he tried to find Ann, only to discover that she had deleted their chat.

He felt a bit uncomfortable.

Logically, he should be happy that Ann was no longer fixated on him, but his heart felt heavy.

Especially when he looked down and saw the puppy digging in the garden, his discomfort grew.

He tossed his phone aside. Forget it, there was no need to talk to her.

Maybe it was for the best. They were never meant to be in the same world.
