Chapter 83 That Would be Enough to Keep Him Tied

Raymond felt a sudden wave of sympathy for Selena. He looked away and said, "Come on in."

Selena, worried he might change his mind, quickly followed him into his room.

There was an extra desk in the room, with an open laptop and a stack of documents.

Raymond always seemed busy, even when traveling, always lugging around paperwork.

It hit Selena then that Raymond's selection as the heir wasn't just about talent; it was also about his relentless effort.

Not everyone was cut out for this job and all its responsibilities.

Selena avoided the desk with the laptop and found a chair to sit on instead.

Raymond walked over to the desk, opened a file, and picked up a pen to continue working.

When he was in work mode, he became even more distant, giving off an unapproachable vibe.

Selena watched Raymond's backlit figure, the light casting a hazy shadow on the floor, even making his hair look golden.

She had a sudden urge to grab a pen and sketch him.

The scene was mesmerizing; the light, shadows, and atmosphere all blended perfectly.

The pain in her stomach seemed to ease up.

She was lost in thought until someone knocked on the door, and Raymond said, "Come in."

John walked in with a few dishes. Seeing Selena, he paused for a moment before saying, "Mr. Montague, please have your meal first. There's a meeting at eight that will last an hour, and another overseas meeting at nine-thirty."

Raymond put down his pen and noticed there was only one set of utensils. He ordered, "Bring another set."

John set down the dishes and told someone to fetch another set of utensils.

Selena didn't wait for an invitation; she was so hungry that just the smell made her mouth water.

As soon as she sat down, her stomach growled loudly, making her feel embarrassed.

Raymond heard it and a hint of amusement flashed in his eyes.

He didn't say anything, but Selena still felt awkward.

John quietly left the room.

The dishes were simple, and the main course was oatmeal, perfect for Selena's current condition.

She didn't want to trouble Raymond to serve her, so she quickly stood up to do it herself, only to see Raymond's attractive hands pick up the ladle and serve a bowl of oatmeal, placing it in front of her.

Selena was stunned; the day had been grim, and this kindness caught her off guard. She instinctively looked up at Raymond.

Raymond had done it casually, but seeing the emotion in her eyes, his heartbeat paused for a moment. Even he couldn't explain what he was feeling.

"Go on," Raymond said.

Selena snapped out of it, quickly took the small spoon, and scooped a spoonful into her mouth.

The oatmeal was delicious, and after just one bite, her stomach felt warm.

The dishes, though simple, were likely specially prepared for Raymond by the chef, using very fresh ingredients.

The day's fatigue seemed to lift for a moment.

Selena, who usually had a small appetite, surprisingly finished the entire bowl.

Just as she put down the bowl, Raymond's phone rang.

Seeing the name on the screen, he frowned before answering. "Grandpa."

"Raymond, I'll be arriving in Silver Bay City in about two days. Make sure to bring Selena to pick me up, okay?" William said.

Raymond instinctively wanted to refuse but paused, considering William's poor health. "Grandpa, I'm still on a business trip. I don't know if I can make it in two days. You can have her pick you up."

William coughed, "No, you both must come, and you have to make time to have dinner with me."

Raymond took a deep breath. It was just a dinner, after all. Although his impression of Selena had plummeted, as a businessman, he was good at putting on a show.

Raymond nodded, "Alright, I'll come with her."

Hearing Raymond agree so quickly, William chuckled and thought he should give Selena a call, too.

After hanging up, Raymond instantly lost his appetite and rubbed his temples.

Selena, having overheard most of the conversation, knew that William would be back soon, and a meeting was inevitable.

Because Raymond had been kind to her tonight, she even felt a bit inclined to reveal her true identity. "Mr. Montague, actually I..."
