Chapter 172 Asserting Authority
Lillian: [Carter, you're spot on! Penny's got some serious talent. She's not just great at interior design; she's also amazing at drawing people!]
Carter had recently decided to settle down and had been treating Lillian well, so they were talking regularly.
But when he saw this photo, he raised an eyebrow and sent it to Raymond without a second thought.
It was already 10 PM, and Raymond had just pulled up outside the Fair Villa.
The Fair Family had called William, and he had no choice but to show up for this dinner, though he could pick the time.
The dining table was loaded with delicious food, looking and smelling fantastic, but the people around it were getting more and more annoyed.
It was supposed to be dinner time, but Raymond and Selena were late, and Selena wasn't even picking up her phone.
James was so mad he almost passed out, and Beatrice kept nagging, "Selena doesn't listen to you or care about your health. You just got out of the hospital, and she dares to upset you like this."
James's fingers started to tremble. The doctor had hinted he shouldn't be discharged in this condition.
But James was too happy about the successful second round of financing and didn't want to leave the company in someone else's hands at this critical moment.
James was thinking about transferring shares to Selena so that even if he died one day, she wouldn't have a hard time.
James wasn't clear about Selena and Raymond's relationship. Although he wanted Raymond to support the Fair Family, as a father, he also wanted to see how his daughter and son-in-law were getting along.
John had previously warned James, and combined with Catherine's attitude, James couldn't help but worry.
The Fair Family had been waiting since 6 PM. The dishes had been reheated multiple times, but no one dared to touch them.
James didn't have the guts to call Raymond directly, and he didn't even have Raymond's number.
He dared to call William because he knew William was satisfied with Selena.
Beatrice, hungry and frustrated, couldn't help but complain, "I don't think they're coming. Let's eat first. We don't want to starve the kids. Alice can't handle this, and Nick has been working all day."
James felt a bit soft-hearted hearing this.
Nick had been staying at the Fair Group recently, working diligently without causing any trouble.
James sighed, thinking Raymond and Selena probably weren't coming, and said, "Then let's eat first."
Just as he finished speaking, a servant ran over. "Mr. Fair, a Rolls-Royce just pulled up outside. It looks like Mr. Montague is here."
James's eyes lit up, and he stood up excitedly. Could Raymond have come with Selena?
Last time, Raymond had given Selena a Rolls-Royce umbrella, suggesting they were getting along well.
James started to walk out but then turned to Beatrice. "What are you waiting for? Come with me."
Beatrice reluctantly stood up, noticing Alice's excitement. Her hand was nervously clenched, a clear sign she was about to see someone she cared about.
Beatrice frowned slightly, realizing Alice's feelings.
James didn't mind Alice being the first to move. When Beatrice joined him, they went to the door together.
Raymond stayed in the car, and John got out.
John nodded to the people at the door, his face expressionless. "Mr. Montague just finished a meeting and won't be coming in. Mr. Fair, I hope you enjoy your meal."
John's words were polite, but Raymond's refusal to come in showed disrespect.
This was Raymond asserting his authority, showing the Fair Family enough courtesy.
If it were anyone else trying to pressure him through William, he would have already taken business action.
The Fair Family hadn't learned their lesson from the previous project interception, and this time they went even further. Raymond didn't need to be lenient, but he held back for William's sake, knowing his health was poor.
James's face darkened, finally understanding Raymond's feelings; he didn't like Selena.
If Raymond liked Selena, he wouldn't let the Fair Family be humiliated like this.
