Chapter 1476 Deeply Calculating
Eldon crouched in the small, steel-reinforced cage, his brow furrowing as he watched the man cloaked in darkness outside.
"Hey, are you reliable or not? Have you found your wife yet?"
Raymond pulled his black robe tighter, covering his eyes.
"Almost."
Eldon plopped down on the cold ground, feeling the chill seep into his bones.
"Raymond, I got into this mess for you. Now that you have the Soto family's emblem of power, you can rally some people. Why are you still dragging your feet?"
Raymond leaned against the wall, chuckling at Eldon's current sorry state.
"It's not as simple as you think. There are more powerful figures behind these families, and we haven't uncovered who they are yet."
Eldon, despite his seemingly simple appearance, was shrewd and perceptive. He wouldn't have risked everything on Raymond if he wasn't confident in his judgment.
The first night he met Raymond and heard about the outside world, he made up his mind. He had to escape Mystic Prison. His sexual orientation was despised here, but the outside world was vast, and he could find a place for himself.
As the next head of the Soto family, if he didn't marry a woman, he would be scorned. If his orientation became public, he might even be assassinated. Mystic Prison was not a place of freedom.
"You must be talking about the person who secretly does business with the major families. They always disguise themselves, sometimes sounding like an old man, sometimes a woman, and sometimes a young boy. No one knows what they really look like. But they're ruthless, so anyone who's seen their true face is probably dead. Digging them out won't be easy."
Eldon propped his chin on his hand, sitting on the ground.
"But Raymond, you've got guts, forging an identity like that."
There was originally a mysterious figure in a black robe on the inner island, providing the major families with advanced medicines, at least fifty years ahead of Mystic Prison's technology. These medicines were highly sought after.
Not just the Soto family, but other families also treated this black-robed figure as an honored guest. Raymond, however, had been a prisoner of the Soto family until recently. Now, he had taken over this person's role, as no one knew what the black-robed figure looked like.
Moreover, he had turned Eldon into an ally. The two were now partners.
Raymond adjusted his hood.
"This black-robed person was likely from a research base, but probably not high-ranking, just a pawn. Taking over their identity wasn't hard."
Eldon glanced at him, chuckling.
"Not hard, but not everyone has the guts."
Footsteps echoed from outside. Someone was coming.
Raymond stood still as the door opened and a man walked in. The man bowed to Raymond, then his expression changed when he saw Eldon.
"Where is the emblem of power, Eldon? If you don't tell us, when Grandpa gets here, you won't keep your legs."
Eldon nonchalantly picked at his ear.
"I tossed it somewhere. Good luck finding it."
"Eldon!"
The man, a member of the Soto family, looked furious.
"You better keep that attitude when I break your legs."
Eldon leaned back, patting his legs.
"Go ahead, break them now if you can."
"You!"
No one dared touch Eldon without Yosef's orders. Most importantly, Eldon had hidden the emblem of power.
This emblem was crucial. The Soto family's hidden forces only obeyed the emblem's holder. Yosef had passed it to Eldon, and now it was missing. They needed to find it and have Eldon pass it on before they could kill him. Otherwise, the Soto family's hidden forces would remain leaderless.
