Chapter 1407 It Is Also Her Fate

Richard wanted to ask her why she hadn't saved Tessa, but something held him back, his lips merely twitching with unspoken words.

After all, Tessa had treated Selena terribly, even causing her blindness. Her refusal to save Tessa was understandable—who had the right to judge her? Perhaps Tessa's fate was simply inevitable.

Seeming to notice Richard's gaze, Selena looked up, meeting his eyes for a few seconds before smiling.

"Mr. Smith, it's been a while."

Richard tensed, that familiar sense of connection washing over him again. Since their first meeting, he had always felt strangely drawn to her, and that hadn't changed.

Just as he was about to exchange pleasantries, Selena's phone rang. It was her mentor, Steve.

Steve typically isolated himself when seeking inspiration, only reconnecting with the outside world after completing a satisfactory piece. Selena hadn't seen him since their meeting in Silver Bay City, before Raymond even knew her identity.

Her eyes lit up with excitement as she answered, "Mr. Butler?"

"Selena, you're in Vistalia too?" Steve's voice was delighted. "Are you free right now?"

Selena considered briefly. She and Raymond weren't planning to leave until the day after tomorrow, so she had time today and tomorrow.

"Yes, I'm free this afternoon. I can meet you."

Steve was pleased and sent her the address.

After Selena explained to Raymond, he remembered who Steve was. Concerned, he insisted, "I'll have someone drive you there."

"Okay," she agreed.

As Selena sat in the car, she felt a pang of guilt. Steve usually reviewed her artwork when they met, but with everything that had happened over the past six months, she hadn't painted in ages. Steve had always praised her talent to others, hoping she would pursue this path. She sighed.

By five o'clock, she was approaching their meeting place. Steve was already waiting in a private dining room, sitting across from Cora and Lawrence.

The pair treated him with exaggerated politeness—Steve's paintings were, after all, priceless in the current market.

Knowing Selena was coming, Cora exchanged a cold glance with Lawrence. She had deliberately arranged this meeting with Steve to lure Selena out. With Selena constantly under Raymond's protection at the fighting arena, the Smith family had no opportunity to act. Only when she ventured out alone would they have their chance.

And with Richard keeping Raymond occupied at the arena, Selena would likely arrive alone—the perfect opportunity to strike.

Remembering the two videos she had seen, Cora wished for Selena's swift demise. Not only had Selena stolen the man Tessa loved, but she'd also led to Tessa's downfall!

Taking a deep breath, Cora maintained her composure. Fortunately, she had met Steve at several exhibitions and had arranged to purchase his artwork, allowing her to secure this meeting just as his retreat ended.

With a practiced smile, she said, "I've always heard Mr. Butler's student is quite talented, though I've never seen her work at any exhibitions."

"Penny has been quite busy, and her family experienced some difficulties a few months ago," Steve explained. "I thought it would be good for her to join me tonight for the exhibition."

Cora nodded. "It's always beneficial for young people to gain experience. Lawrence, our guest should be arriving soon—why don't you go downstairs to greet her?"

She deliberately sent Lawrence away.

Lawrence harbored a deep hatred for Selena. Once he intercepted her, he would know what to do. The entire restaurant had been reserved—as soon as Selena set foot inside, her fate would be sealed.

Cora's heart filled with cold satisfaction. Since Richard had forbidden them from seeing Jason, the least they could do was eliminate the person responsible for Tessa's downfall.

"Yes, Mother," Lawrence replied, his face devoid of emotion. "Mr. Butler, please excuse me."

He descended to the lobby, glancing at the large wall clock, his eyes dark with anticipation.

Ten minutes later, one of his men reported that Selena had arrived.
