Chapter 13
Joseph's face went blank for a second, then it hit him.
Selena had the guts to claim she was Raymond's wife!
Man, Selena was something else.
Since Raymond had already denied it, Joseph made a mental note: if he ever bumped into Selena again, he wouldn't let her off easy.
Selena left the stadium and got into her car, still feeling grossed out by Joseph's intentions.
She figured she'd head home first and come up with a new plan.
Her car looked totally out of place among all the luxury rides around.
She hit the gas and carefully started to back out.
But then, a car behind her sped up and slammed right into her rear bumper.
Her car jerked forward, and her head almost smacked the windshield.
The impact pushed her car forward about ten feet, crashing into a parked luxury car.
Selena got out and saw the other driver was a middle-aged woman with perfect makeup. The woman glanced at Selena's car, clearly unimpressed by its modest price tag.
The woman, judging by Selena's looks, dismissed her as just another pretty face trying to latch onto a rich man.
Selena caught that vibe and turned to check out the luxury car in front of her. The license plate was a string of identical numbers; she wondered if the middle-aged woman had noticed.
"Alright, alright, my insurance will call you for repairs. Don't waste my time," the woman said, waving her off without even looking at Selena.
Selena frowned and tried to be polite. "Ma'am, the car in front..."
Before she could finish, the woman cut her off, "I told you, I have important things to do. Do you even know where you are? I don't have time for this. I'll cover the damages to the car in front too. Just leave and give me this parking spot!"
The car in front had some serious damage to its taillights, probably costing a fortune to fix.
Since the woman was willing to take responsibility, Selena figured there was no point in arguing.
After Selena drove off, the middle-aged woman finally noticed that the car she had hit was a super expensive luxury car!
Her face went stiff. She looked around, parked in the spot Selena had left, and headed straight into the stadium, clearly not planning to contact the luxury car's owner.
Raymond stepped out with Ethan and Joseph by his side.
John hurried over to bring the car around but found the taillights smashed and the license plate bent.
Ethan's face darkened, and he quickly called over a security guard. "Who did this? Go pull up the surveillance footage."
The security guard looked nervous. He knew he couldn't afford to upset either Ethan or Raymond, so he rushed to check the footage.
Ethan turned to Raymond. "Mr. Montague, should I arrange for someone to take you back?"
"Hand the surveillance footage over to the police," Raymond said calmly, but the weight of his words made the security guard even more anxious.
Raymond was serious about pursuing this.
Ethan nodded. "Mr. Montague, don't worry. We'll get to the bottom of this."
Raymond didn't say anything and got into the damaged car.
Knowing Raymond didn't like riding in others' cars, John gripped the steering wheel and drove off. "The hotel isn't far. I'll take you there first and then deal with the insurance."
Raymond nodded. "Alright."
Raymond had been abroad for three years. Even though he owned multiple properties, they felt no different from hotels to him.
Manston Manor was still under renovation, so he was temporarily staying at a hotel owned by the Montague Group.
As they left the stadium and stopped at a red light, John glanced back at Raymond, remembering Carter's instructions. "Mr. Ashford gave me some design sketches and a contact earlier. He said it was a recommendation for an interior designer. Want to take a look?"
Since Raymond returned, many design companies had pitched their services, but none had impressed him.
He wondered what kind of designer Carter would recommend. He doubted his taste.
Raymond felt a bit dismissive and rubbed his temples. "Where are the sketches?"
John replied, "They're in the folder to your left."
Raymond nodded but didn't open it right away. Instead, he leaned back for a quick nap.
Meanwhile, Selena got back to her apartment, took a shower, and applied some medicine. Just as she finished, the doorbell rang.
It was already 8 PM; who could it be?
She got dressed and opened the door to find two police officers showing their badges.
"Ms. Fair, you're involved in a hit-and-run incident. Please come with us," they said.
