Chapter 67 A Chance Encounter

Selena dropped her gaze, not wanting to get into pointless arguments.

While she was stuck fulfilling her contract with Raymond, all she wanted was to get through her time at Ashbourne Manor without any drama, occasionally making an appearance in front of William. As for the rest of the Montague family, she planned to steer clear of any conflicts.

Plus, Catherine was super protective of Raymond. Arguing with her would just make things worse.

Even when Catherine was nitpicking around the house, Selena just stood there quietly, not saying a word.

It wasn't until Catherine reached the second floor and saw the master bedroom that her face twisted in disapproval.

"If Raymond moves in, he should definitely take the master bedroom. You can sleep in the guest room. Don't get any ideas about getting close to him. Remember, once William's health gets better, you'll have to leave." After her rant, Catherine finally looked at Selena, who had been silently following her, and frowned. "Did you hear me?"

Selena nodded. "I understand, Mrs. Montague. Anything else I should know?"

Catherine felt frustrated again. Why did she always end up speechless when dealing with Selena?

Unable to vent her frustration, Catherine suddenly lost the desire to keep nitpicking. Before leaving, she gave Fiona some instructions, especially about being careful with Raymond's food.

Fiona had no choice but to nod in agreement.

After Catherine left, Fiona looked at Selena with some concern.

"Ms. Fair, do we really have to send Max away?" Fiona asked.

"Fiona, I remember there's a big empty room at the back of this villa. If Mr. Montague comes over, let's put Max there. Max is too lively. Sending her to my friend's place would only cause trouble for them," Selena replied.

Fiona breathed a sigh of relief. She liked Max a lot and had grown attached to her after taking care of her for so long.

"Alright, I'll move Max's toys to that room now," Fiona said.

Selena nodded. Catherine's visit had already put her in a bad mood.

Plus, she didn't want to live under the same roof as Raymond. It seemed she needed to find a new place quickly.

Selena called Shelley and mentioned that she needed to find a new place, naturally bringing up the fact that her current place had been burglarized.

Shelley was worried about Selena renting a place on her own. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Why don't you come live with me?"

Selena frowned. "Live with you? Wouldn't that mess with your relationship with Philip?"

Shelley shot back, "If you come live with me, I'll tell him not to come over. If I miss Philip, I'll go to his place. How about that?"

Shelley always had a way of being blunt that Selena found amusing. She decided not to tease her any further. "No need. Just keep an eye out for a place for me. If you find something suitable, I'll move in right away. I've already listed my current apartment for sale."

Getting burglarized once was enough to show the place wasn't safe. This time, she definitely needed somewhere with better security to avoid constant worry.

Shelley said, "Alright, I'll keep an eye out for you."

After hanging up, Selena saw Max still bouncing around her feet, sometimes lying on the ground wagging her tail, sometimes pawing at her leg, completely unaware of Catherine's disdain.

Shelley was quick. The next day, she sent Selena several listings and even arranged for a real estate agent to show her around.

Selena scheduled a viewing for 11 a.m. and played with Max for a bit before heading out.

"Ms. Fair, this location is very quiet, and it's in a low-density villa area. The environment is great, perfect for someone like you," the agent said politely.

Selena took one look at the house and knew it was expensive, guessing it was around 1.5 million dollars.

The agent continued, "Currently, there are two villas for sale here. One is priced at 1.3 million dollars, and the other at 1.4 million dollars. The two houses face different directions. Ms. Fair, would you like to take a look?"

Just hearing the price made Selena feel a bit stressed.

She had asked Shelley to find a place with better security, but she hadn't expected Shelley to go straight for villas.

Her apartment had cost around three hundred thousand dollars when she bought it. The prices here, including taxes, were about five times higher.

Over the years, Selena had never asked James for money. Despite working for several years and presumably having some savings, the idea of buying a house worth 1.5 million dollars in one go was still daunting.

However, if she sold her apartment, she could use the proceeds to make a down payment of several hundred thousand dollars.

As Selena was thinking about the down payment, she saw another agent leading a couple to view the house.

It turned out to be Beatrice and James.

At first, they didn't notice Selena. Beatrice said, "Nick wants to live in a villa. There's one here priced at 5 million dollars that he likes, so I brought you to take a look."

James smiled warmly, "If he likes it, then let's buy it. What about Alice? If we buy one for Nick, won't Alice want one, too? She's grown up now and probably feels that living together is inconvenient."

Beatrice gave him a playful look. "I can't bear to let Alice live alone. It's not safe."

James nodded, "That's true. If Alice lives alone, who knows what might happen. Her health isn't great. It's safer to keep her close."
