Chapter 1462 Is Barbara Really Dead?

The kids didn't know she had already passed away. They even left some snacks on her bed.

Emilio knew she wouldn't last a week, but he didn't expect her to leave today.

Did she see the changes in the yard?

His eyes reddened, and he hoarsely asked the little boy next to him.

"Did Ms. Blake see the renovations in the yard?"

"Yeah, Emilio, she saw them. Ms. Blake wanted to get out of bed, but I couldn't help her. She said she wanted to sleep a bit more, so I left some snacks on her bed."

"Good kid."

Emilio patted the boy's head, while Selena, standing by the door, overheard the conversation and didn't know what to say. She quietly left.

In the middle of the night, after all the kids had fallen asleep, Emilio went out to the yard alone with a shovel.

On a small mat nearby lay the lifeless body of Ophelia.

Selena also brought a shovel. After digging about three feet deep, she and Emilio together placed Ophelia into the grave.

Emilio didn't put up a headstone; he just knelt in front of the mound of dirt and bowed his head.

"Ms. Blake had a tough life, taking care of us without ever resting. She held on until the day you arrived. Selena, thank you. If you hadn't gone to school today, she would have had to drag herself to class, and she would have coughed up a lot of blood again. She finally got to rest for a day."

Selena suddenly thought of Barbara, feeling a pang of sadness.

Emilio stood up, dusting off his knees.

"Who are you looking for? What are you planning to do next?"

Selena took out a photo of Barbara.

"Have you seen her on the island?"

Emilio's pupils shrank. "Ms. Blake brought her here once. I saw her, but she's already dead."

Selena's hand trembled, nearly dropping the photo.

Emilio's tone was calm. "Ms. Blake saved her, but she didn't make it. We buried her just like we did with Ms. Blake."

"That's impossible!"

"I can take you to the place. I was very young then. We buried her on the other side of the yard."

He went inside to get a flashlight and another shovel.

Selena's mind was in turmoil as she followed him with heavy steps.

The place was less than a thousand feet from the yard. Emilio glanced at a large tree nearby.

"She told Ms. Blake she liked this tree and wanted to be buried under it. It was about six years ago. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but Ms. Blake cried here for a long time."

Emilio started digging. After about five feet, he uncovered a coffin.

Selena couldn't bring herself to look, watching as he opened it.

Inside was a skeleton.

She took a step back, her legs weak.

Emilio sighed. Tonight, after Ophelia's death, he felt numb to everything else.

"The island's hospital can only treat minor illnesses. Most people who go in don't come out. This person seemed to be an expert in medicine, but I don't know why she was on the island."

Selena stood there for a while, feeling a mix of sadness and pain.

Emilio finally noticed something was wrong with her and quickly closed the coffin, his tone hesitant.

"Should I not have brought you here?"

The body had turned into a skeleton, and Selena couldn't tell if it was Barbara, but the height matched, and Emilio had no reason to lie.

She sat on the ground, the dampness soaking her pants, but she seemed oblivious.

Emilio started to fill the grave back in, while Selena stared at the mound of dirt.

Was Barbara really dead?

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach and couldn't help but vomit before passing out.

"Selena!"

Emilio hurriedly picked her up and carried her back to the yard.

The kids were all standing by the bed, watching Selena with wide eyes.

One of them wiped their mouth and spoke innocently.

"Emilio, can we eat her now?"

"Emilio, when are we going to start? She seems to be pregnant."

The children's faces were innocent, but their words were chilling. One of them took a knife and was about to cut Selena's arm.

Emilio stopped the knife.

"We can't eat her."

"Why not, Emilio..."

The tone turned pitiful, and despite their cute appearance, their words were terrifying.
