Chapter 1370 As If Crushed by This Gaze

Raymond gripped Selena's wrist until they reached his car. Once inside, he slammed the door and cupped her face, kissing her forcefully.

After a moment's hesitation, Selena turned away.

Raymond felt his heart lifted high only to be violently dashed. His hands clenched the steering wheel, his breathing shaky and rapid. He couldn't fathom Victor's game—why release Selena so confidently, as if holding all the cards?

Selena sat in the passenger seat, staring ahead, instinctively clutching her seatband. Having regularly inhaled unknown compounds and unknowingly undergone deep hypnosis, she felt profoundly unsettled away from the person who had become her source of security.

Raymond sensed something was wrong, but his only thought was to get her to the underground fighting arena. He floored the accelerator.

Three hours later, they arrived at the entrance to the arena. He swept her into his arms, carrying her past black and gold carved pillars.

Selena remained silent, clinging tightly to his neck. The deafening roars and shouts from the arena surrounded them. She buried her face against his chest, discomfort seeping through every pore.

Raymond's hand gently patted her back as they ascended to the seventh floor—his private level.

The opulence that greeted Selena was beyond description: the most extravagant corner of the world, adorned with every brilliant color imaginable.

Raymond placed her on the large sofa and pressed her down without hesitation.

"Stop," she gasped between kisses, instinctively trying to escape, but her struggles were futile.

For an hour, Raymond covered her body with kisses, holding her firmly. The deeper his passion grew, the more he noticed her expressions lacked their former vividness.

Love's gaze couldn't be hidden. Before, when he'd done these things, she would grab his hair—pushing him away yet simultaneously drawing him closer. Now that loving look had turned detached, though her physical responses remained unchanged.

Raymond felt a crushing weight in his chest and kissed her lips again.

Selena finally recognized something familiar in his eyes, in his face.

"Raymond, I can hardly breathe," she whispered.

"Selena, how did Victor rescue you?" he asked.

"Those people took me prisoner and whipped me. I escaped and ran for what seemed like forever until I found Dr. Barnes. He told me you were searching for me too, but you'd returned to Silver Bay City that day. So I stayed with him temporarily."

Her eyes softened when mentioning Victor.

Raymond felt his heart crumbling at that look. "So you're grateful to him... and fell in love with him?"

"I... I didn't," she stammered, trying to push him away as heat rose within her.

Raymond gripped her hand firmly, bringing it to his lips. "You didn't? Yet your expression grows tender when you speak of him. When I kiss you, you remain so calm. Have you stopped loving me?"

He could endure anything except this.

No wonder Victor had seemed so confident—he knew returning a Selena who no longer loved Raymond would be the ultimate torture.
