Chapter 1415 She Cannot Bear the Pain of Childbirth

Raymond had already carried Selena into the car, with Richard driving carefully at the wheel, fighting back the heat behind his eyes.

He glanced in the rearview mirror, seeing Selena curled up in Raymond's arms.

"Raymond ..." Her voice was faint. She was awake.

Raymond quickly raised his hand, gently patting her back.

"Selena, how are you feeling?"

Selena opened her eyes, her vision still hazy. A wave of coldness seized her heart. Her lips trembled.

Only now, feeling Raymond's presence, did warmth begin to return to her body.

She wanted nothing more than to burrow deeper into his embrace, to become one with him.

"Raymond..."

Raymond felt a sharp pain in his chest, hating his own helplessness. He had promised to protect her, yet had allowed her to fall into danger once again.

"It's okay now, Selena. You're safe."

Selena nodded, too exhausted to speak.

At the hospital, after a thorough examination, the doctor reviewed her results.

"Everything looks fine, but this young lady should take care of herself in the coming months. She's pregnant."

The news stunned both Raymond and Selena into silence.

After several seconds, Selena's brain finally processed the information.

She looked up uncertainly. "Doctor, are you sure? We've always used protection."

The doctor adjusted his glasses. "I'm quite certain. Perhaps you engaged in other activities without proper protection?"

Selena's cheeks flushed red as she stared down at the floor.

Raymond stood frozen, his mind completely blank.

The doctor looked puzzled. "Are you not planning to keep the baby? If not, you should decide soon."

Raymond snapped back to reality. "Keep it! We want the baby, but..."

He glanced nervously at Selena.

She had lost a child for him before—a painful memory for them both. Now, with no wedding ceremony or marriage certificate, having her pregnant seemed unfair to her.

Besides, Selena herself might not want a child now.

Her silence stabbed at his heart.

"Selena, if you don't want to..."

He couldn't finish. Abortion was too harmful for women, and unless absolutely necessary, he would never suggest it. Only a scumbag would make such a decision lightly.

Selena remained silent. This baby came at the worst possible time.

They still had so much unfinished business.

The doctor, sensing her reluctance, closed the file. "If you decide to keep the baby, start taking vitamins and folic acid. If not, schedule the procedure soon—the further along, the more risk to the mother."

While both Selena and Raymond remained silent, Richard suddenly grabbed the doctor's hand, his teeth clenched in agitation.

He said, "Doctor, please check again. There must be a mistake. She's so young—why would she be pregnant? Check carefully. She shouldn't have to suffer through childbirth. They could always adopt later!"

Selena found Richard's anxiety strange.

She gave him a puzzled look, but Richard was fixated on the doctor, his expression desperate.

Richard continued, "Perhaps your equipment is faulty. Check again! They used protection—she can't be pregnant!"

The doctor calmly removed Richard's hand. "Sir, do you have some stake in this pregnancy?"

Why else would he be so agitated?

"Fuck! What the hell are you implying? Don't talk nonsense!" Richard exploded in anger. "Quack! You're a damn quack!"

The doctor, bewildered, was escorted away by several nurses.
