Chapter 1412 So Selena Is His Real Sister

His hand hesitated, momentarily at a loss for words.

Paul's finger continued tracing the address. "However, some aspects of Selena's developmental history seem unusual and don't align with her memories. According to neighbors, she and Barbara frequently left the house when James was working outside and couldn't monitor what was happening at home. I believe parts of Selena's childhood memories have either been altered or there are missing years she's unaware of."

This explained why Selena never noticed anything strange about Barbara. Whenever she thought of Barbara, her clearest memory was of being protected and loved, but the details remained frustratingly vague.

She couldn't recall specifics about her interactions with her grandparents—only remembering their disappointment that she wasn't a boy.

Nor could she remember how her uncle had helped her mother—only recalling the year she spent at his house during high school.

Raymond's expression turned ice-cold.

"Raymond?" Paul called out.

"I'm listening."

Paul said, "I'm certain that Selena is the Smith family's long-lost daughter, and Barbara is her biological mother, not her adoptive mother. That mental patient had seen Barbara's face, though the situation was complicated as Barbara was accompanied by several people at the time."

He added, "I couldn't investigate further—the patient only knew fragments of the truth. Actually, you could simply show Selena a photo of Cora, and she'd realize she looks identical to Barbara. Additionally, you could arrange a DNA test between Selena and Jason."

Paul exhaled with relief after sharing this information.

Raymond had entrusted him with this investigation before leaving the country, and Paul felt he hadn't let him down.

He loosened his tie. God knows how difficult it had been to uncover these connections. Just identifying that psychiatric hospital had required sifting through hundreds of thousands of records without sleep. Thankfully, he and his team excelled at data analysis.

Raymond was wearing earphones, as was Richard who sat behind him. Both sets were connected to Paul's call.

Richard had frozen when he first heard Paul's findings.

By the end, he was completely stunned.

Now his inexplicable connection to Selena made sense.

Selena was his actual sister!

How ironic that Lawrence was now harming his real sister for the sake of an impostor.

Richard was burning with anxiety, almost desperate enough to jump from the helicopter to stop Lawrence from making a terrible mistake.

His body felt hot, sweating with urgency.

But Raymond remained calm as Paul continued speaking through the earphones.

"Victor's identity is questionable. He had previously contacted Layla and likely knew Selena was the Smith family's daughter all along. When Jason asked him to investigate his missing daughter in Silver Bay City, he couldn't have chosen a worse person. Victor has been concealing information throughout, and even orchestrated the situation with Selena's problematic parents. Raymond, this is all I've uncovered so far. I've noticed people following me recently—could be government agents or Victor's men. Let's touch base later."

"Understood. Thank you for your hard work, Paul."

After ending the call, Paul rubbed his temples.

He hadn't rested for days, working tirelessly with his team to process the information. Finally, he could get some proper sleep.

He glanced at his phone, noticing several missed calls from Ann.

His brow furrowed instantly. Did she really think that sleeping with him a few times would make her special to him?

Disgust flashed in his eyes as he blacklisted her number.

He needed to distance himself from her for a while to prevent her from continuing to pose as his wife.

Though he bore some responsibility—he hadn't been thinking clearly—Ann had been fully conscious when she yielded to his advances.

Their entanglement began when she climbed into his bed, and later, taking advantage of his amnesia, she desperately tried to leave her mark on his life.

She had clearly forgotten her place.

How could he possibly be interested in a woman of her background? When he eventually married, it would only be to someone of equal social standing.
