Chapter 1400 No Wound Deeper Than Emotion
"Dressed like that, you're just asking for it!"
"Such a slut!"
Hatred had consumed Tessa's consciousness. She screamed until her voice gave out.
"Stop! Please stop! Selena, I'm begging you, help me! Save me!"
"Why won't you help me? I just wanted to find Lawrence."
"Lawrence, help me..."
But Lawrence was miles away in Silver Bay City. There was no way he could save her.
She had been tortured to the brink of death, barely clinging to life, her broken body unable to withstand any more abuse.
Then the video of Tessa begging Selena for help on the street was sent to Lawrence, along with footage of her being assaulted by multiple men.
The footage was crystal clear. Every word spoken, every act committed—he could see it all.
After years of supporting Tessa unconditionally, even to the point of having no boundaries, Lawrence was so shocked that his phone slipped from his hand. He bolted upright, the color draining from his face.
He and Paul had only been in Ridgefield for two days. Paul's men were methodically investigating the area, but Lawrence, as if triggered by some unseen force, immediately got into his car.
Paul stood outside the vehicle, his tone ice-cold. "Where are you going, Mr. Smith?"
Lawrence had no time to think. "Back to Vistalia. Something's come up."
Paul didn't try to stop him, guessing it probably had to do with Tessa. She'd been calling repeatedly during their trip, pleading with Lawrence.
Lawrence floored the accelerator and called Richard. "Find Tessa! Now!"
Richard was at the Smith estate, looking after Jason. Since discovering Layla was his daughter, Jason's long-held obsession had crumbled, leaving him bedridden.
Other rivals of the Smith family had begun making power plays, and Richard was struggling to manage it all. He had no energy to search for Tessa.
"I won't do it."
"Richard!"
"Lawrence! Dad is sick—heartbroken. Doctors can't help him. You want me to look for Tessa now? She's the reason our family is falling apart! What lies has she fed you this time?"
Lawrence's fingers trembled.
His voice caught, choked with emotion. "This is different. We have to save her. Tessa, she's been..."
Richard couldn't summon any pity for Tessa. All he wanted now was for the truth to come out and for Jason to recover.
How could a once-strong family fall apart so quickly?
"Richard, we watched Tessa grow up. Her situation... it's all because of Selena. I should have eliminated Selena from the beginning. Her and Raymond—how could they be so heartless?"
Rage reddened Lawrence's eyes, his chest heaving with anger.
Richard simply continued wiping Jason's forehead with a handkerchief.
Jason kept mumbling the same phrases.
"Octavia, I'm sorry."
"Octavia, the child..."
"My daughter..."
Nothing wounded more deeply than emotions.
Richard had always known his father as cold and commanding, but he'd never seen him look so broken and defeated.
Octavia? Wasn't Cora Jason's greatest love? What else was hidden in this story?
Lawrence's voice continued in his ear.
"I'm heading back to Vistalia now. Selena will pay for this. If you won't find Tessa, I'll do it myself!"
