Chapter 20

Standing behind Raymond, John was about to remind him about the meeting, thinking he'd forgotten. But when he saw Selena's face, he held back.

What was the deal between her and Raymond?

The elevator dinged open, and Selena gestured for them to enter.

Raymond didn't hesitate. He told John to head to the company first and then stepped into the elevator.

The hotel's breakfast area was bustling. Selena and Raymond snagged a window seat, and a waiter quickly brought them lemon water.

Selena took a sip, the sourness waking her up and easing her dizziness. She figured she'd hit the hospital after breakfast to avoid passing out from low blood sugar.

Putting down her glass, she asked, "Mr. Montague, what kind of books do you usually read? Mr. Ashford mentioned you've taken some art courses?"

Clients' tastes often matched their personal preferences. A quick chat could help nail down the design theme.

Raymond probably wasn't into anything too flashy or complex.

Traditional might be too boring. Art lovers usually dig bolder styles.

She wanted to get a feel for his tastes, but Raymond just said, "Use your creativity."

Selena hated clients like that. It was like getting a free-topic essay in school—too many choices made it harder.

A set-topic essay was way easier.

Use her creativity, huh?

She was mulling over a basic style when a surprised female voice cut in, "Raymond?"

She looked up to see a young woman in designer clothes, perfectly made up, eyes locked on Raymond. "I've been coming here for days, hoping to run into you."

Lisa Baker's face lit up with joy. She glanced at Selena, a hint of wariness in her eyes. "And who's this?"

Selena was about to say Raymond was her client, but Lisa plopped down like Selena wasn't even there and kept grilling Raymond, "I heard Manston Manor's getting renovated?"

Raymond clearly wasn't interested and gave a short, "Yeah."

Lisa smirked, "I remember you love Manston Manor's layout. I know a great designer. Want an intro?"

She was obviously trying to get closer to Raymond.

But before she could finish, Selena smiled and cut in, "Sorry, Mr. Montague's already my client."

Lisa's eyes flicked back to Selena, her lips tight. "You're a designer too?"

Her tone was dripping with contempt, like she thought Selena was just another girl trying to get close to Raymond.

Selena nodded. "Yep, and Mr. Montague and I seem to get along pretty well."

Get along pretty well?

Selena and Raymond were having breakfast together. Who knew if they'd spent the night together?

Lisa's face twisted, thinking Selena was showing off and using cheap tricks.

She'd planned to ignore Selena and make her back off, but Selena had skillfully upped her own status.

Lisa took a deep breath and brought up Raymond's marriage, "Since Raymond picked you, he must have his reasons. Just don't disappoint him and his wife."

Raymond frowned.

Lisa had been chasing Raymond for years, even knowing he was married, and used his marriage to fend off other women.

Sure enough, Lisa's next words were blunt. "You do know Raymond's married, right?"

The implication was clear, 'Are you trying to be a homewrecker?'
