Chapter 1422 You Are the Enemies of the Smith Family
That statement was too serious for Lawrence to ignore. He froze in place, remaining at the doorway.
Minutes later, heavy rain began to fall, darkening the sky.
Human emotions often mirrored the weather, and as Lawrence gazed into the distance, he spotted a car slowly approaching.
As the vehicle drew closer, he watched Richard step out.
Then Raymond emerged, followed by Selena.
At the sight of her, Lawrence bristled with hostility.
He said coldly, "What are you doing here? Do you have a death wish?"
Selena stood beside Raymond, who carefully sheltered her under his umbrella, protecting her from the rain.
"Lawrence!" Richard called out, holding his own umbrella. He feared Raymond might leave with Selena.
"Lawrence, watch your mouth!"
Lawrence's face hardened. "Richard, care to explain? You bring this woman to the Smith estate? Aren't you worried she'll contaminate our home?"
Richard took a deep breath. "Upstairs. To Dad's bedside. Lawrence, no matter how upset you are, you need to hear what we have to say to Dad."
Lawrence was seething with rage, hating not only Selena but Raymond as well.
It was Raymond who had caused Tessa so much suffering.
Wasn't Tessa's trip to that dangerous district to find him?
Damn it! This couple had ruined Tessa!
"Lawrence, if you leave now, we're done as brothers."
This threat made Lawrence tense up. Suppressing his anger toward the couple, he followed them upstairs.
Selena was equally annoyed by Lawrence's presence. Thankfully, with Raymond beside her, she simply ignored Lawrence completely.
The group gathered around Jason's bed. The household staff had already left.
Raymond froze for a moment when he saw Jason barely clinging to life.
Though Richard had described his condition, seeing it firsthand was still shocking.
Even Selena frowned in surprise.
She had seen Jason speak at an event a few years ago—then, like all elite businessmen, he'd worn a suit and tie, his eyes sharp and full of vigor. Now he looked withered.
She felt a pang of sadness and unconsciously tightened her grip on Raymond's hand.
Raymond gently patted her hand in reassurance.
Lawrence's gloomy voice broke the silence. "Richard, have you lost your mind? Bringing these two to see Father? Are you trying to make him collapse again?"
Before he finished, someone knocked at the door. Cora's voice called out, "Lawrence, is something wrong?"
Before Lawrence could answer, Cora pushed the door open.
Selena turned toward the sound and froze when she saw Cora's face.
Barbara?
Cora's gaze fell on Selena, instantly filling with disgust.
"It's you, isn't it? Selena? You've ruined my Tessa. You deserve to die! Lawrence, why is she still alive? Didn't I tell you to deal with her last night? Why can I still see her?"
Her face contorted with rage as she raised her hand to slap Selena.
Selena was too shocked to react.
But the hand stopped mid-air, caught by Raymond, whose expression had turned cold. "Mrs. Smith, is this how you treat guests?"
"Guests? You're not guests—you're enemies of the Smith family! Lawrence, have them thrown out. The sight of them makes me sick!"
Lawrence shared her sentiment. He gestured coldly toward the door. "You're not welcome at the Smith estate. Please leave."
As he spoke, his gaze unconsciously drifted to Selena.
Suddenly, he recalled the photograph he'd just seen—Selena's eyes resembled those of the woman in the picture.
His brow furrowed, and for a brief moment, the harshest words caught in his throat.
