Chapter 1378 Cunning Outwits Itself

After receiving the ring, the restless feeling deep within Selena finally vanished. Lying in bed, she couldn't help but look at it again and again.

Although she still couldn't generate genuine excitement about it, at least now she could fall asleep.

She rolled over and glanced at it.

Then rolled over again for another look.

When Raymond came to bed, he found her still staring at the ring.

He had finished his evening routine, washing away the cigarette smell from his body.

He wrapped one arm around her, preventing her from rolling back and forth on the bed.

Raymond asked, "It's getting late. Go to sleep. Don't you have an appointment with Dr. Barnes tomorrow?"

Selena immediately went still, nestling in his embrace. "Raymond, Dr. Barnes is quite nice," she said.

"Yes, he is."

"He saved me once, and he's always gentle with me."

"Yes."

"He's also quite remarkable. Did you know he has an identical twin brother?"

Raymond, who had been lying with his eyes closed, suddenly opened them and stared at the ceiling.

Selena, realizing what she'd just revealed, quickly backtracked. "I'm just making things up. Dr. Barnes denied having one."

"He denied it?"

"Yes."

Raymond turned to look at her, a slight smile playing on his lips. "This time, Victor has outsmarted himself."

Selena felt uneasy, sensing she might have gotten carried away. Was it because of the ring? Was she too happy about it?

Happy?

So she could still detect that hidden joy after all.

"Selena, tell me more. Twin brothers who look identical - one with a mole on his earlobe, one without. Is that right?"

Raymond had always been exceptionally intelligent. He simply hadn't considered the possibility of two Victors before. Now that he knew, he quickly pieced the information together with what Jason had told him about BK having two key figures—one called "B," the other "K"—twin brothers who often switched identities to avoid suspicion.

They had fooled the world but were undone by a hypnotized, unworldly Selena.

Raymond felt like laughing and pulled her closer.

Under her hypnotic instructions, Selena wasn't supposed to tell anyone about Victor. The reason she had slipped up was because the impact of receiving that ring had been so profound. Even under hypnosis, she could feel that sense of joy.

Under the influence of those emotions, her guard had momentarily dropped.

This was probably something Victor hadn't anticipated.

For all his clever calculations, he had inadvertently delivered crucial information to Raymond.

Realizing her mistake, Selena fell silent.

Raymond propped himself up and held the back of her head, kissing her intensely.

Soon she was breathless.

"Selena, do you realize that whoever wears this ring is supposed to bear my children?"

Selena had been pretending to be unaffected, but her eyes flew open at this, and she instinctively moved to remove the ring.

"Then I don't want it."

But her fingers hesitated over the ring. She looked at Raymond, and he stared back, as if waiting to see if she would actually take it off.

After a long moment, seemingly embarrassed, she said softly, "I don't know anything about the mole you mentioned."

"Then how did you know they were twins?"

"Just a feeling, I suppose. Sometimes I feel like my mind is too foggy, like I'm lost in a confusing environment. Then suddenly I realized that the Dr. Barnes I was seeing wasn't always the same person. I can't explain exactly what it was—perhaps because I was somewhat detached, those tiny differences seemed a thousand times more obvious to me. Or maybe it's because I paid too much attention to him. I felt like my entire world revolved around him, so I was examining this central figure with a magnifying glass."
