Chapter 146 Rely on a Women
Selena was about to leave, but since she had just texted Shelley, she decided to wait by the elevator.
Shelley showed up in no time, stomping so hard in her high heels it seemed like she might break the floor.
"Shelley?" Selena called out, but Shelley, her face red with anger, stormed straight to the suite across the hall.
Shelley pounded on the door so hard her hand started to swell.
Inside, two guys and two girls were having a birthday party, singing the birthday song.
Hearing the banging, Lyra frowned and wrapped her arms around Philip's neck.
"Philip, did you plan a surprise for me?" Lyra teased, knowing full well Philip was broke and couldn't afford any surprises.
If it weren't for Lyra's generosity, giving him a hundred grand, Philip wouldn't even be here.
Philip smiled, about to say something, but the knocking got even louder.
Another girl got up to open the door.
Shelley stood there and immediately spotted Philip at the table.
Lyra still had her arms around his neck.
Shelley, fuming, marched over and swung her bag at them.
"Philip! How dare you cheat on me!" Shelley yelled.
Philip was stunned, not expecting Shelley to show up.
His eyes went from innocent to panicked as he jumped up. "Shelley."
Lyra, who had been hit, was about to curse but was held back by another guy there.
The guy shook his head and whispered in her ear, "I've seen this woman at a party before. She's not someone we should mess with."
Lyra gritted her teeth, glaring at Shelley.
Her eyes locked onto Shelley's bag, a new Hermès model worth over two million dollars, and it looked legit.
Plus, Shelley was decked out in high-end brands, all limited editions.
Lyra's confidence took a hit. Even though her family was rich, buying a bag worth over two million dollars was still a stretch.
"Philip, who is she?" Lyra asked.
Shelley answered, "I'm his girlfriend!"
Then she turned to Philip, grabbed a wine glass from the table, and splashed the wine in his face.
Philip closed his eyes as the wine dripped from his hair, his long eyelashes wet, and he pursed his lips in frustration.
"Bastard!" Lyra shouted, gritting her teeth. "Well, Philip, you have such a wealthy girlfriend, so why are you out here on a date with me for just a hundred grand? If you need something, why don't you just ask your girlfriend for money?"
Philip's eyes widened in surprise as he looked at Shelley.
The other three people tried to calm Lyra down, suggesting they move the party somewhere else.
Hearing that Philip had sold himself for a hundred grand, Shelley pulled out a card and threw it at his face. "If you love money so much, just ask me! A hundred grand is nothing! This card has ten million on it!"
Realizing they couldn't afford to mess with her, the others quickly left.
Lyra, still fuming, muttered, "Yeah, her bag alone is worth over two million. Why would she care about a hundred grand? If you're gonna rely on a woman, why not rely on your girlfriend?"
Lyra's family was well-off, and she usually had tens of thousands as pocket money. Tears streamed down her face in frustration, and her friends consoled her as they led her away.
Shelley, gritting her teeth, raised her hand to slap Philip, but Selena stopped her.
"Ask for an explanation first," Selena said.
Shelley took a deep breath, lowered her hand, and glared at Philip.
His face was indeed handsome, but she hadn't expected him to come to a hotel with another woman.
Philip dabbed the wine from his cheek, his long eyelashes lowered.
"Last time we went shopping, you wanted a pair of shoes. Just for attending her birthday, I could get a hundred grand. I'm sorry," Philip apologized.
Shelley was stunned, suddenly recalling the last time they went shopping. They had accidentally entered a store, and she had fallen in love with a pair of shoes that cost a hundred grand. It was a luxury brand. She could afford them, but thought they were too expensive, so she put them back. As they left the store, she felt a surge of anger when the sales clerk mocked them.
Actually, Shelley had later had that salesperson fired. The Harper family was in the luxury goods business, and the entire mall belonged to her family.
At this moment, Shelley felt only guilt. She quickly took a tissue and wiped Philip's cheek.
"Was it your intention to buy those shoes for me?" she asked softly.
Philip nodded, his face a mix of self-mockery and disappointment. "But your family is so rich, you don't need it. I was being foolish. You were lying to me all along."
Shelley, in a panic, picked up the card from the floor and handed it to Selena.
Shelley explained hastily, "Those people just now had bad eyesight. I'm not really wearing genuine designer brands. Altogether, my outfit costs less than two hundred dollars. This card belongs to my friend. Let me introduce you to my friend Selena. I've mentioned her to you before."
