Chapter 220 To Match Him with Alice
"Selena, do you really think just because you hooked up with him, he'll think more of you? Guys never turn down a girl who throws herself at them. But trust me, he'll ditch you sooner or later."
Selena just hit the gas and flashed a smile at her.
"Until he does, all you can do is watch and drool."
Alice was so mad her chest was heaving, almost making her pass out.
Selena glanced at her in the rearview mirror, looking totally unfazed.
Silver Bay City was unbearable for even a second longer. Better to head to Ridgefield now and sort out the hardwood flooring issue so she could explain things to Raymond.
She grabbed a coffee from a roadside stand to keep herself awake.
After downing the whole cup and making sure she wasn't sleepy, she grabbed her laptop and drove straight to Ridgefield.
Meanwhile, Raymond's car was also on its way there.
William was pulling every trick to set him up with Selena. Better to get to Ridgefield early and hand over the Montague Group to someone else for a bit. That way, William couldn't find him, and things would calm down.
Raymond rubbed his temples; his back still hurt.
John was driving up front, and the car was dead silent.
John glanced at him in the rearview mirror, thought for a sec, and then spoke up.
"Miss Stone called you last night, but you didn't pick up. She called me this morning and said she's handling her return stuff and will be back later than planned."
"Okay."
Raymond's face didn't show any emotion. His lap was still covered with documents for the Ridgefield trip.
The car drove for hours, and by the time they got to Ridgefield, it was already dark.
They stayed at the same courtyard as last time, while Selena booked a regular hotel. This time, she didn't contact her uncle and aunt; she just wanted to get things done quietly.
But as soon as she parked at the hotel entrance and was about to check in, she saw her aunt Erin selling fruit at a nearby stall.
Her uncle Brian had a job, but Erin's work was unstable, so she sometimes looked for extra cash in her spare time.
Selena didn't expect to see Erin selling fruit near the hotel tonight, and it looked like she was arguing with a customer.
Selena couldn't just ignore it and walked over quickly.
"This is definitely fake money. Give me back the change I just gave you."
"Fake money? You accepted it just now. Are you trying to scam me by switching it with fake money? Let go of me, or I'll get physical!"
A few people were standing around, watching the scene.
Selena walked over, glanced at the man, and then turned to ask, "Aunt, what's going on?"
Erin didn't expect Selena to suddenly show up in Ridgefield and was embarrassed to be caught in such a situation, her face turning red.
"Selena, why didn't you tell me you were coming back?"
The man's eyes roamed over Selena, a look of amazement flashing across his face.
Selena took the hundred-dollar bill and looked at the man. "Did you touch this money?"
The man crossed his arms over his chest, his tone arrogant. "Of course, I didn't touch it! That's not my money!"
"Alright, since you didn't touch it, I'll call the cops now. They can quickly check for fingerprints. If this money isn't yours, there won't be any of your fingerprints on it. If you're lying, then you're causing trouble on purpose. If you get a criminal record, your kids won't be able to get jobs at reputable companies."
The man was about Erin's age, and in a place like Ridgefield, people of that age without children would be ridiculed. He definitely had kids.
The man's face stiffened, and Selena extended her hand. "Or you can return the change, and I'll give you back the money. Let's not make a fuss."
The man's face turned awkward. He muttered a few unpleasant words and threw a bunch of change on the ground.
Erin was the first to react, quickly bending down to pick it up. Selena pulled her up and stared sharply at the man.
"Pick it up."
The man was intimidated by her gaze and felt a bit humiliated. "Hey, you're going too far!"
Selena pressed the emergency call button right in front of him.
The man got furious, gritted his teeth, bent down to pick up the money, and threw it into the pile of fruit on the cart before cursing and leaving.
Erin secretly wiped her eyes and picked up the money from the pile of fruit.
Selena tore the hundred-dollar bill into pieces and threw it into a nearby trash can to prevent anyone from picking it up and using it to scam others.
