Chapter 85 Almost Caused a Disaster
Erin also felt a bit awkward, and Brian was even more at a loss.
Selena ignored her. "Uncle Brian, Aunt Erin, I'll be leaving now."
Erin and Brian hurried to see her off, personally escorting her to the corner.
Selena thought for a moment but couldn't help asking, "Uncle Brian, isn't there an investor planning to develop tourism in Ridgefield? If your place gets demolished, what do you plan to do with the money?"
The housing prices in Ridgefield were quite affordable; with just a little over two hundred thousand dollars, one could purchase a very spacious four-bedroom home.
With this, Brian's face lit up with excitement, "Jacob still owes about ten thousand dollars in high-interest loans. I'll pay that off first, then get a better house. Selena, are you asking because you heard something?"
Brian remembered that Selena rode in the same car as Raymond.
Selena said, "Yeah, but it's not certain yet. Uncle Brian, you and Aunt Erin should plan carefully before deciding. You're getting older, don't give all the money to Megan."
Brian coughed, "Megan's alright, just a bit lazy. Just don't hold it against her."
Seeing that she couldn't get through to them, Selena exchanged a few pleasantries and drove away.
Brian was so excited that his hands were clenched, and his cheeks were flushed with excitement.
Then Brian said, "Since Selena asked, our area is definitely going to be demolished. Erin, let's borrow some more money and buy the houses next door. If they get demolished, the compensation will multiply several times."
Erin looked hesitant. The neighborhood was primarily populated by the elderly living alone, or multi-generational households. If they bought others' houses and it got out that they had inside information, wouldn't that make enemies?
Brian continued, "Erin, let's go back and discuss it with Megan. Selena rode with that investor yesterday; he must have told her something. This is a chance to make a fortune. Let's sell the car and borrow some money from relatives. That'll be hundreds of thousands of dollars, enough to buy two houses. When we sell them, it'll be millions!"
Erin was hesitant at first, but Brian's words swayed her.
Selena had no idea that her casual remark almost caused a disaster.
She was about to drive away when she realized she had left her phone charger at Harmony Garden and had to go back.
But because Ridgefield was crowded and unplanned, her car moved at a snail's pace among the pedestrians, testing her patience.
What should have been a half-hour drive took an hour before Selena finally arrived at Harmony Garden.
There were several people gathering at the entrance, including two company representatives from yesterday. Raymond stood at the door, looking displeased.
Selena quickly parked her car and was about to get out when she saw Megan driving Brian's car, stopping just three feet in front of Raymond.
Megan said, "Mr. Montague, weren't you planning to stay in Ridgefield for another day? I see your car is broken. Why not ride with me? I'll give you a lift."
Megan had put on makeup. Since the car was already near Harmony Garden, she arrived much faster than Selena.
As soon as Selena got out of the car, she heard this and realized Megan wasn't giving up.
Megan was still married to Jacob, but she dared to openly flirt with Raymond!
Selena walked closer and saw that not only had Raymond's car windows been smashed, but the tires were also slashed.
The two representatives looked anxious and helpless, having no idea what to do.
It was understandable; Raymond had come to invest, and now his million-dollar car was vandalized at Harmony Garden. He might change his mind in anger.
Raymond's expression remained indifferent, his gaze cold and detached. Those who knew him well could tell he was displeased.
However, the nearby Megan, full of enthusiasm, shoved aside the people in front of her and was about to approach him.
Megan said, "Mr. Montague, come on. My car may not be as expensive as yours, but it's a BMW, and those are rare in Ridgefield. I even got it serviced last night for three thousand dollars."
This remark made the onlookers mock, but given the situation, they held back.
Megan, however, didn't realize how embarrassing she was being.
Selena couldn't stand it any longer and pulled her aside. "Megan, that's enough!"
Megan saw her and felt a bit guilty. Hadn't Selena left? But then Megan thought it wasn't Selena's business, so Megan regained her confidence.
Megan retorted, "It's none of your business Aren't you leaving? Get lost."
Even without turning around, Selena could feel a cold gaze on her, silently watching.
For some reason, Selena suddenly felt very ashamed.
