Chapter 1448 A Kind of Indescribable Irritation
Paul finished half a cigarette and flicked the butt into the nearby trash can.
"Still spying on me?"
His tone was cold, and his brows furrowed with impatience.
He didn't need to look around the corner to know who the woman was.
He could recognize her footsteps.
Ann froze, touching the mask on her cheek, but didn't move.
Paul held a box of matches between his fingers, striking one to light another cigarette.
Ann had seen that matchbox before. She had tried to buy one, but it wasn't available online or in stores.
It must have been custom-made.
Sometimes he liked using a lighter, other times he preferred these matches.
He tilted his head back slightly, exhaling a puff of smoke.
Ann's eyes stung as she watched. She tugged at her mask and silently turned to walk the other way.
She couldn't be seen like this. Betty and Sophia were handling the negotiations, so there wouldn't be any issues.
She had to leave.
Paul heard her footsteps fade away, his eyelashes fluttering.
The hallway lights dimmed, leaving only the faint glow of his cigarette.
After a while, he struck another match, watching it burn out.
He felt an inexplicable irritation.
He ran his hand through his hair and tossed the cigarette into the trash.
Alex showed up then, also looking to smoke.
"How many have you had? You reek of smoke."
Alex leaned against the opposite wall, lighting a cigarette. "I saw Ann tonight. She had two artists with her. Since Selena left, she's become the top dog at the company."
"Yeah."
Paul didn't seem interested in her affairs.
But Alex kept pushing.
"When you had amnesia, you used to kiss Ann all the time."
Everyone thought Paul had forgotten that period, but Alex knew better. From the first day Paul regained his memory, Alex knew he remembered everything.
If he hadn't, Paul would still be in touch with Ann, treating her like he used to.
But now he wasn't, and that said it all.
"You said it yourself, it was when I had amnesia." Paul's voice remained indifferent as he flicked the ash from his cigarette. "Don't bring her up again."
"I don't want to, but I just saw Emily and some other women follow Ann into the ladies' room. They were probably bullying her. Aren't you going to do something?"
"She brought this on herself. She deserves a lesson."
Paul didn't even frown. He thought, how much trouble could Emily cause? Ever since Selena put her in her place, Emily had been pretty well-behaved, only resorting to verbal jabs at most.
Couldn't Ann handle that?
She brought this on herself. She deserved the payback.
Alex watched him, thinking he saw a glimpse of Raymond.
Back then, no one knew Selena was Raymond's wife in name. Raymond refused to admit he had feelings for Selena, claiming he was just playing around, even though he was already willingly acting as Selena's lover without realizing it.
Alex sighed. "Why are you all so stubborn? Never mind, I don't want to talk about it."
He tossed his cigarette and threw an arm around Paul's shoulders.
"Come on, let's keep drinking. You're right, women are nothing. If she wants to be humiliated, she deserves it, right?"
Paul raised an eyebrow, surprised. That didn't sound like something Alex would say.
He suddenly remembered the recent rumors about a starlet chasing after Alex.
"Alex, you recently..."
"Don't mention it. I ran into a nutcase. Can't get rid of her, even after I slept with her once. That's why I don't like sleeping with virgins."
What a jerk!
